Khi trao chìa khóa Nước Trời cho thánh Phêrô, Chúa Giêsu đã ban cho thánh nhân một biểu tượng của quyền cai trị.

“Who do you say that I am?”

In today's Gospel passage, Jesus asks His disciples: “Who do you say that I am? Simon went ahead and answered: “You are Christ, the Son of the living God.” With his response, Peter was professing His faith in Jesus as the Messiah, the Davidic descendant who would be the instrument to bring about the reign of God. It was also clear that the promise is not based on any of Peter's strengths, but guaranteed because it was God who revealed to him Jesus' identity, and upon Peter, the rock, Jesus established His Church. Jesus founded a single chair (Cathedra), a primacy given to Peter, making clear that there is but one Church, and one chair

By giving Peter the keys to the Kingdom, Jesus was bestowing upon him a symbol of full authority. Peter was receiving the power to bind and to loosen, in other words, the power to forbid and to permit actions; the power to formulate and perform authoritative decisions; the power to exercise regulations of the Ethical life of a religious community by means of authoritative teaching. What is more, the passage confers the whole idea that God will ratify, and stand behind what Peter enacts.

Now a day, Jesus himself is asking us: “Who do you say that I am?” Would we be able to tell Him that we are disciples, followers of Christ, believers of His Church, the one that we confess in our creed as One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic? Today, let us offer the best of our efforts to resign our desires to have a church conformed according to our own ideas, our preferences, or our desires. Let us ask the Lord to make us humble enough to accept the treasure that we have inherited from Church's Tradition and through the teachings of its Magisterium. Let us pray for the need to recognize that many times we are called to sacrifice our own preferences and desires, and to always go looking for what is best for the community as a whole. It will be then that we will end by recognizing the authority that Jesus Himself deposited in Peter

...Al darle a Pedro las llaves del Reino, Jesús depositaba en él, el símbolo de autoridad total.

By giving Peter the keys to the Kingdom, Jesus was bestowing upon him a symbol of full authority.

En el Evangelio de hoy Jesús pregunta a sus discípulos: “Y ustedes, ¿Quién dicen que soy Yo?” Simón inmediatamente responde: “Tu eres el Mesías, el Hijo de Dios vivo ” Con su respuesta, Pedro profesa su fe en Jesús como el Mesías, el descendiente de David que será el instrumento verdadero para el establecimiento del Reino de Dios. Es bastante claro que la promesa hecha a Pedro no era basada en sus merecimientos, pero garantizada porque fue Dios mismo quien le revelo la identidad de Jesús; y sobre Pedro, la Roca, Jesús estableció su Iglesia. Jesús fundo una sola Silla, la primacía fue dada a Pedro, dejando bastante claro que era una sola Iglesia, una sola sede.

Al darle a Pedro las llaves del Reino, Jesús depositaba en él, el símbolo de autoridad total. Pedro recibía así el poder para atar y desatar, o lo que es lo mismo, el poder de prohibir y permitir acciones, el poder de formular e imponer decisiones con autoridad; el poder de ejercer regulaciones acerca de la moral y la ética de la comunidad religiosa a través de enseñanzas autoritarias. Lo que, es más, el pasaje confiere la idea que Dios ratificara, indudablemente, cualquier decisión tomada por Pedro

El día de hoy, Jesús mismo nos pregunta a todos nosotros: ¿Y ustedes, quien dicen que soy yo? ¿Tendremos el valor de contestar que somos cristianos creyentes en Su Iglesia, que como decimos en el credo es Una Santa, Católica, y Apostólica? Ofrezcamos hoy el mejor de nuestros esfuerzos por renunciar a tener una Iglesia conformada a nuestros gustos y preferencias, y de acuerdo con nuestras propias ideas. Pidamos al Señor que nos de humildad para aceptar el tesoro que hemos recibido de la Tradición, y mediante las enseñanzas de su Magisterio Reconozcamos hoy la necesidad de muchas veces tener que renunciar a nuestros intereses, de sacrificar nuestros gustos y conveniencias para ir siempre en busca de lo que es bueno para la comunidad como un todod. Estaremos así reconociendo la autoridad que Cristo mismo deposito en Pedro

Trong bài Tin Mừng hôm nay, Chúa Giêsu hỏi các môn đệ của Ngài: “Các con bảo thầy là ai”, Ông Simon đã mau mắn trả lời: “Thầy là Đức Kitô, Con Thiên Chúa Hằng Sống.” Thánh Phêrô, qua câu trả lời, đã tuyên xưng Chúa Giêsu là Đấng Thiên Sai,thuộc dòng giống Vua David,Đấng sẽ là khí cụ đích thực để thiết lập Vương quyền của Thiên Chúa. Quả thật rõ ràng rằng lời hứa ấy không dựa trên sức mạnh nào của Thánh Phêrô, nhưng được bảo đảm vì chính Thiên Chúa là Đấng đã mặc khải cho thánh nhân danh tính của Chúa Giêsu, và trên đá tảng là Phêrô, Chúa Giêsu đã thiết lập Hội Thánh của ngài. Chúa Giêsu đã thành lập một ngai cai trị duy nhất, một ngai cai trị được trao cho thánh Phêrô, nghĩa là chỉ có một HộiThánh duy nhất và một ngai cai trị duy nhất.

Khi trao chìa khóa Nước Trời cho thánh Phêrô, Chúa Giêsu đã ban cho thánh nhân một biểu tượng của quyền cai trị. Thánh Phêrô nhận quyền cai trị ấy để ràng buộc và tháo cởi, nói một cách khác, quyền ngăn cấm và cho phép hành động; quyền thành lập và thực thi những quyết định có thẩm quyền; quyền thực hiện những luật về đời sống luân lý và đạo đức của một cộng đồng tôn giáo qua huấn quyền như giảng dạy, giải nghĩa. Hơn nữa, đoạn Tin mừng này đưa ra ý tưởng tổng thể rằng Thiên Chúa sẽ chấp thuận và đứng đằng sau mọi điều thánh Phêrô tuyên phán.

Ngày nay, chính Chúa cũng hỏi chúng ta: “Các con bảo thầy là ai?” Liệu chúng ta có thể can đảm trả lời với Ngài rằng chúng ta là môn đệ, là những người theo Chúa Kitô, là nhưng người tin vào Giáo Hội của Ngài; một giáo hội mà chúng ta tuyên xưng đức tin trong kinh tin kính của chúng ta là Duy Nhất, Thánh Thiện, Công Giáo và Tông truyền? Hôm nay, chúng ta hãy cố gắng hết sức để từ bỏ mọi ước muốn riêng của mình để làm cho những tư tưởng riêng ấy, sở thích riêng ấy, ước muốn riêng ấy được phù hợp với giáo hội. Chúng ta hãy cầu xin Chúa ban cho chúng ta lòng khiêm nhường đủ để chấp nhận kho báu mà chúng ta đã được thừa hưởng từ Truyền Thống của Giáo Hội và qua huấn quyền giảng dạy của giáo hội. Chúng ta hãy cầu nguyện để có thể nhận ra những lần chúng ta được kêu gọi để hy sinh sở thích và ước muốn của riêng mình và để luôn tìm kiếm những gì là tốt nhất cho toàn thể cộng đồng.Khi ấy chúng ta sẽ nhận ra quyền cai trị mà chính Chúa Giêsu đã ủy thác nơi thánh Phêrô.
