In today’s Gospel, St. Luke tells us aboutZacchaeus. With Zacchaeus climbing a treeto see Jesus passing by, today’s Gospelexemplifies how a Christian attitude mustdevelop before wealth. As in the book ofWisdom the sacred author tells us today:“You rebuke offenders little by little, warnthem and remind them of the sins they arecommitting, that they may abandon theirwickedness and believe in You, o Lord!”

The same as many rich people, Zacchaeusdiscovers today how interior emptiness canbe easily identified as the consequence ofmaterial possessions. A humble heart willeasily experience how material possessionswill play against the interior peace that we allare longing for. And Zacchaeus “ran aheadand climbed a sycamore tree to see Jesus,who was about to pass that way.” By now, theLord is about to do something big for him; apersonal encounter is about to happen. AndJesus discovers Zacchaeus hidden amongthe sycamore’s branches; what is more, Hecalls him by name. Jesus’ mercy is at work; atthe same time that He is teaching Zacchaeusthat He is the loving and compassionate Sonof God.

As soon as he heard that Jesus will visit him at home, Zacchaeus begins to show his faithin Jesus. On the one hand, and by running,Zacchaeus is showing his joy and desireto welcome all the marvels that God had shown in his life. On the other hand, once he heard Jesus telling him: “come down quickly,today, I must stay at your home,” Zacchaeushad understood that he had become a piecein God’s Plan of salvation. And when the moment arrived, Zacchaeus was so happy;it was not just the fact he was welcomingJesus at his home, but the fact that a rich and publican person was welcoming theconversion message into his heart.

Today, let us recognize Jesus’ calling to usin the Eucharist, every time that we gather tocelebrate it “In memory of Him.” Let us climbthe tree of the Altar where we will be able to become food and sustainment for others. Let us ask the Lord for a moment of conversion as the one Zacchaeus experienced at the topof the sycamore tree. Let us listen to Christ’svoice telling us: “Today, salvation has cometo your house.”

Recemos para que la Iglesia, fiel al Evangelio y valiente en su anuncio, viva cada vez más la sinodalidad y sea un lugar de solidaridad, fraternidad y acogida.

En el Evangelio de hoy, San Lucas cuenta la historia de Zaqueo. Con Zaqueo subiendo a lo alto de un árbol para ver a Jesús pasar, el pasajede hoy ejemplifica lo que debe ser la actitud cristiana delante de las riquezas. Como el Libro de la Sabiduría nos enseña en la primera lectura: “A los que caen, los vas corrigiendo poco a poco, los reprendes y les traes a la memoria sus pecados, para que se arrepientan de sus maldades y crean en ti, Señor.”

Como mucha gente rica Zaqueo descubre hoy como el vacío interior, que las posesionesprovocan, finalmente nos conduce a experimentar que las riquezas terrenales no proveen la paz interior que todos anhelamos. Y Zaqueo “corrió y se subió a un árbol para verlo cuando pasara por ahí” El Señor está a punto de hacer algo grande por él, quizá un encuentro personal está por suceder. Y Jesús descubre a Zaqueo en medio de las ramas de aquel árbol, pero no solo eso, también lo llama por su nombre. Mediante sus actos Jesús está mostrando compasión por Zaqueo, al mismo tiempo que se presenta como el amoroso y compasivo hijo de Dios.

Zaqueo muestra su fe el Señor tan pronto cuando escucha que lo visitara en su casa. Por un lado, correr es una acción que expresa júbilo, y deseo de dar la bienvenida a las maravillas de Dios en su vida. Por otro lado, cuando escucha a Jesús decirle: “hoy tengo que hospedarme en tu casa,” Zaqueo entiende que se convertirá en parte del plan de salvación divino. Y Zaqueoestaba feliz de recibirlo. No era solo el hecho que daba la bienvenida a Jesús en su casa, pero también el hecho que el jefe de publicanos y rico daba la bienvenida al mensaje de conversión ysalvación en su corazón.

Reconozcamos hoy el llamado que el Señor nos hace, cuando nos reunimos a celebrar la Eucaristía en conmemoración suya. Subámonos al árbol del Altar donde podremos ser convertidos por el cuerpo y la sangre de Cristo. Recemos por un momento de revelación como el que Zaqueo experimento aquel día en lo alto de aquel árbol. Prestemos atención para oír la voz de Jesucristo diciéndonos: “Hoy ha llegadola salvación a tu casa!”

Cầu cho giới trẻ vị thành niên

Chúng ta hãy cầu nguyện cho những trẻ em đang bị đau khổ, đặc biệt là những trẻ em vô gia cư, mồ côi và nạn nhân của chiến tranh; xin cho các em can đảm, biết chuyên chăm học hành và cho các em được cảm nghiệm tình yêu gia đình.

Bài phúc âm hôm nay, thánh Luca kể cho chúng ta câu chuyện ông Giakêu leo lên cây sung mong được thấy Đức Giêsu đang đi qua lối ấy. Phúc âm hôm nay bày tỏ cho người tín hữu chúng ta tấm gương về thái độ của người giàu có. Trong sách khôn ngoan, tác giảviết “Ôi lạy Chúa, Chúa từ từ sửa phạt những kẻ lầm lạc, khuyên răn và dạy bảo những kẻ phạm lỗi, để họ từ bỏ tội ác mà tin theo Chúa!”

Cũng như nhiều người giàu có khác, Gia Kêu đã nhận ra những trống vắng nội tâm, có thể dễ dàng nhận ra như là hậu quả bởi sở hữu quá nhiều của cải vật chất. Một trái tim tự hạ sẽ dễ dàng nhận ra sở hữu của cải vật chất đánh mất sự bình an nội tâm mà mỗi người chúng ta hằng mong đợi. Và ông Gia Kêu “chạy đến leo lên cây sung phía trước hầu được nhìn thấy Đức Giêsu đang tiến về phía ấy. “Ngay lúc đó, Chúa làm một việc trọng đại cho ông Gia kêu; một việc sắp xảy ra. Và Chúa Giêsu nhìn lên, Ngài thấy ông Gia kêu ẩn trốn trong nhánh lá cây sung; Có chi hơn, Ngài gọi chính tên ông. Lòng nhân lành của Chúa Giêsu linh nghiệm; cùng lúc ấy Ngài cũng dạy cho Gia kêu nếm được tấm lòng yêu thương và nhân hậu của Con Thiên Chúa.

Ngay khi nghe biết Đức Giêsu sẽ đến thăm ông tại nhà, Gia kêu bày tỏ đức tin của mình vào Đức Giê su. Khi vội leo xuống khỏi cây sung, Gia kêu tỏ hiện niềm vui và ước vọng chào đón với trọn nỗi niềm qúy mến vào ơn Chúa chiếu rọi vào cuộc đời của ông. Mặt khác, khi nghe chúa Giê su bảo ông “xuống mau, hôm nay tôi phải ở lại nhà ông,” Gia kêu đã hiểu ra mình đã trở thành nhân tố trong chương trình cứu độ của Chúa. Và khi việc ấy đến, Gia kêu tràn ngập niềm vui; không chỉ đơn thuần ông chào đón Đức Giêsu vào nhà mình, nhưng là một người giàu có và nổi tiếng hối cải tự đáy lòng mình.

Hôm nay chúng ta hãy nhận ra tiếng Chúa Giêsu trong mầu nhiệm Thánh Thể, mỗi khi chúng ta họp nhau để dâng lễ nhân danh Ngài, hãy cùng nhau tiến lên bàn thờ nơi chúng ta có thể trở thành lương thực, thành những yếu tố cần thiết cho sự sống của những người khác.

Hãy cầu xin cùng Chúa cho chúng ta có được sự trở lại của Gia kêu đã trải nghiệm qua trên ngọn cây sung. Ước chi chúng ta được nghe tiếng của Đức Kitô phán bảo “Hôm nay ơn cứu độ đã đến với nhà của con”.
