Holy Gospel
Days will come when there will not be a stone upon another.
In today’s gospel, Jesus made a prediction about the Jerusalem’s temple, a fact that he had previously linked to His death and resurrection: “Destroy this temple, and I will rebuild it in three days.” Jerusalem’s temple represented for the Jewish people one of the pillars of their whole spirituality. St. Luke’s gospel begins in the temple with the annunciation of the birth of John the Baptist to Zachariah, his father, who used to serve at the temple. The temple is also the place where Simeon and Ann rejoiced before Jesus’ presence, while prophesizing about His life, passion, and death on a cross. The temple was the place where the Holy Family used to come to worship during their yearly pilgrimages. Jesus himself was found in the temple when, still as a child, He got separated from His anguished parents.
The temple is now the place where, according to St. Luke, Jesus’ last teachings took place. And today Jesus made an announcement lacking any political prudence: “The days will come when there will not be left a stone upon another stone that will not be thrown down.” In other words, do not put your hopes, or your securities, in material possessions. It does not matter how solid they look, or how beautiful they are. They will not ever be eternal; its end will undoubtedly arrive. Nobody knows the moment when the end of times arrives, do not let yourself be deceived by false prophets who believe they can read messages where there are none. Let us be aware of the fact that without God’s presence in our daily lives, death will always be an insurmountable tragedy. What we could consider as certain is the fact that every day of our life sets us closer to our individual end. On a daily basis, the universe evolves before us, and never stops. Every sunset announces the end of a day that will never return. Every death of a human being is an unrepeatable drama that witnesses the signs of the end of times.

Recemos para que la Iglesia, fiel al Evangelio y valiente en su anuncio, viva cada vez más la sinodalidad y sea un lugar de solidaridad, fraternidad y acogida.
En el Evangelio, Jesús hace hoy una predicción acerca del templo de Jerusalén, un hecho que había sido ya ligado a su muerte y resurrección: “Días vendrán en que no quedará piedra sobre piedra de todo esto que están admirando; todo será destruido.” El templo de Jerusalén representaba para los judíos uno de los pilares más sólidos de su espiritualidad. El Evangelio de San Lucas inicia su narración en el templo con la anunciación del nacimiento de Juan el Bautista a su padre Zacarías, que servía en el templo. El templo es también el lugar donde el día de la purificación de María Simeón y Ana se regocijaron ante la presencia del niño Jesús, al mismo tiempo que profetizaban acerca de su vida, su pasión, y su muerte en una cruz. El templo era también el lugar al que la Sagrada Familia acudía en peregrinación para rendir culto al Dios de Israel. Jesús mismo había sido encontrado en el templo cuando, aun siendo niño, se había separado de sus angustiados padres.
El templo es ahora el lugar en donde, de acuerdo a San Lucas, Jesús entrega sus últimas enseñanzas. Y hoy Jesús hace un anuncio nada político: “Días vendrán en que no quedará piedra sobre piedra de todo esto que están mirando, todo será destruido.” En otras palabras, no pongan sus esperanzas, ni sus seguridades, en las posesiones materiales. No importa cuán sólidas parezcan, o que tan bellas sean; jamás serán eternas, su fin llegará indudablemente. Nadie conoce el momento cuando el final llegará, no nos dejemos engañar por falsos profetas que dicen leer mensajes en donde ni siquiera existen. Pero si hagámonos bien conscientes de un hecho: cuando nos decidimos a ignorar la presencia de Dios en nuestra vida diaria, la muerte se presentará siempre como una insuperable tragedia. De lo que si podemos estar seguros es del hecho que cada día de nuestra existencia nos coloca más cerca de nuestro final individual. Cada día, el universo transcurre delante nuestro, y jamás se detiene. Cada puesta de sol anuncia el final de un día que jamás volverá. Cada muerte de un ser humano es un drama irrepetible que atestigua el final de los tiempos.

Chúng ta hãy cầu nguyện cho những trẻ em đang bị đau khổ, đặc biệt là những trẻ em vô gia cư, mồ côi và nạn nhân của chiến tranh; xin cho các em can đảm, biết chuyên chăm học hành và cho các em được cảm nghiệm tình yêu gia đình.

Sẽ có ngày không còn hòn đá nào trên hòn đá nào
Bài phúc âm hôm nay chúa Giêsu tiên đoán về ngày tàn của đền thờ Jerusalem, quả thật Ngài đã liên kết với cái chết của Ngài “Hãy phá hủy đền thờ này đi trong ba ngày ta sẽ xây dựng lại”. Đền thờ Jerusalem là một biểu tượng linh thiêng của người do Thái. Thánh Luca bắt đầu sách phúc âm của Ngài bằng sự kiện tiên báo về sự xuất hiện của Gioan Tẩy giả với Gia-Ca-Ria, cha của Gioan, trong khi ông Gia-Ca-Ria đang đảm nhiệm việc tế lễ Thiên Chúa. Cũng trong đền thờ (nầy) nơi ông Si Mê Ôn và bà Anna vui mừng gặp được Đấng Kitô trong lễ cung hiến hài nhi Giêsu, hai vị đã nói tiên tri về cuộc sống, cuộc thương khó, và cái chết trên thập tự giá của Ngài. Đền thờ cũng là nơi gia đình Thánh Gia hằng lui tới để thờ phượng Chúa mỗi năm đi hành hương. Đức Giêsu cũng đã được tìm thấy trong đền thờ lúc còn nhỏ, bị lạc mất, khi cha mẹ Ngài đang hớt hãi tìm Ngài. Theo Thánh sử Luca, hôm nay, chúa Giê su giảng dạy lần cuối cùng nơi đền thờ. Và Ngài đã tuyên bố một sự việc không liên quan gì đến chính sự: “Sẽ có ngày không còn hòn đá nào trên hòn đá nào mà không bị phá hủy”. Nói cách khác đừng đặt tin tưởng vào vật chất và tiền của. Điều quang trọng không phải là sự chắc chắn hoặc vẽ đẹp bề ngoài. Nó không trường tồn, ngày tàn phải đến không nghi ngờ gì sẽ đến, đừng lầm tưởng mà tin vào các tiên tri giả, họ nghĩ là họ biết các sự việc sẽ xảy ra, thật ra họ chẳng biết gì. Hãy xác định rõ là không có Chúa hiện diện trong cuộc sống hằng ngày thì sẽ dẫn đến diệt vong. Điều chắc chắn sẽ phải đến, đó là mỗi ngày sống là một ngày chúng ta tiến gần hơn đến cái chết. Mỗi ngày thế giới thay đổi không ngừng. Mỗi lúc chiều ta là chấm dứt một ngày và sẽ không bao giờ trở lại. Mỗi cái chết của một con người là một vở kịch không bao giờ lặp lại, đó cũng là chứng tá, bằng chứng hiển nhiên cho sự Cánh Chung sẽ phải đến.
