As the summer starts to wind down, this Sunday (August 17) will mark the last day of organized programs at Victoria Beach. It takes a small army to organize and run all the events in the calendar each year and we are blessed that year after year we have individuals who step up to give their time and energy towards making these events a reality. I want to recognize the Victoria Beach Club Officers who shouldered the major programs and spent countless hours of their personal time on evening and weekends to execute and coordinate their areas of responsibility with dedication and passion: Membership Committee - Lise Simonson, Pam Beazley, and Anita Gubbles Special events coordinators - Jill Kirbyson and Shauna Filuk Swim Conveners - Anndrea O’Conner and Tamara Roehr Tennis Conveners – Lisa and Bryan Yagi Herald Editors – Barb Prichard and Kevin Dubé Herald publisher – Lana Meier Planned giving – Bruce Eyford On behalf of the Board, I want to thank the Officers, the conveners of ALL the special events, our incredible staff, and Bruce Sirrell our Rec director, for your incredible efforts this year. We also want to thank all those who “unofficially”
helped out at various events – we know there are many of you who do so much behind the scenes to make each event such a success each year. All of you are invaluable to the VB Club members and the Board. As with any organization we are only as strong as our volunteers and staff, and the VB Club is no exception. There comes a time when Officers and conveners need a break to spend time with family and friends and recharge their batteries. Some conveners will be taking a break next year and replacements have already been secured, however, we are still in need to give the Membership Committee and the Flea Market conveners a break and need some individuals to step forward and volunteer to take over these roles. I can assure you that the current conveners will be glad to help you transition and make sure you are supported. Please contact anyone on the VB Club Board if you are interest in volunteering next year. As a small token of our appreciation, the VB Club Board would like to extend an invitation to all current and past volunteers (and those taking on a new volunteer role next year) to join us on Friday August 15 from 7-10pm at the Clubhouse for some wine and refreshments. On Tuesday August 5th, the new council was sworn in at the regular council meeting at the Victoria Beach office in Winnipeg. As previously published the Reeve is Brian Hodgson, and the four councilors are Kathy McKibbin, Linda McMillan, Penny McMorris and Gordon Ross. We all look forward to working with and for you in the next four years. Municipalities work well when we work together. We all look forward to hearing your concerns and while no one of us can independently grant your wishes, we all will listen to your concerns, consider the issues and as often as possible take steps to remedy problems in the best interests of the community as a whole. The opinions of all are valuable Next Meeting: The first beach meeting with the new council will be held at the Seniors’ Scene on Ateah Road on Tuesday August 19, 2014 at 7 p.m. We look forward to seeing you there. The Draft Development Plan: In the term of the past council, the municipality has worked on the Draft Development Plan. Several public meetings have been held and many members of the community have come out to provide valuable input. The new council has met with the provincial employees to review the draft. Several of the recommendations from the preliminary Baird report have been incorporated, but as we are still awaiting the final Baird report, there may be a few amendments. However, we hope to have the Draft Development plan
ready for presentation and first reading at the next meeting. Amendments are still possible between first and second readings and between second and third readings. Bears: We live in the wilderness. Bears live here too. All members of the community must be proactive. While the municipality offers garbage pick up in the restricted area, don’t encourage bears by leaving your garbage out in your yard. Take your garbage to the big green metal bins by the recycling area and parking lot between garbage days or when you are leaving the beach. Also remember that bears love bird feeders. While we all like to see birds in our yards, full bird feeders just train bears to come for a snack. Nature provides for our feathered friends. Recycling: Victoria Beach was a leader in recycling. We have had an active recycling program for almost 25 years. Back then, a core group were devoted to recycling. They met on Mondays to sort through the cans into soft drink or beer and the plastic into clear, green and brown. Now it is so much simpler. You just have to take your recycling to the bins by the gate and put it into the green, red or blue bins. (And your garbage into the big green bins) We encourage everyone to keep recyclables out of the landfill. The signs are clear. Let’s keep Victoria Beach green. Victoria Beach Council

The Face, Facts & Figures Behind VB’s Recycling Program Our community knows how to recycle and our program is a huge success. Our ability to continue to recycle glass, plastic and paper in such large quantities relies on the outstanding efforts of Larry Ateah. Larry has been the Recycling Man for the RM since 2000 and he is the genial fellow you see at the Recycling Bins, sometimes 2 to 3 times a day. Larry takes 4 to 6 twelvebin loads per week to Environmental Options during the busy summer months. He and his grandchildren can be seen stomping down cardboard boxes that we should have flattened first, trying to remove small appliances and building materials and other nonrecyclable items from the bins and cleaning up debris and garbage around the area. Larry’s many round trips to Environmental Options in Lac du Bonnet take about 6 to 7 hours to organize, haul, drop off and return. The 12 full bins he takes per trip hold approximately one metric tonne of recycling and he hauls 48 to 60 bins per week. He is always in touch with Darlene and Karen at EO to ensure that there is room for our recycling or to see if they need his help along the way. In the non-beach season Larry makes his trips to EO 2 to 4 times per month.

You may have noticed the box at the back of the bins for beer bottles and cans. For the past 8 years or so Larry has given the proceeds from these bottles and cans to local charities and associations. Every year he is able to give $1,000 to Socially Conscious, a charity run out of the East Beaches Seniors Scene, for Christmas hampers and other projects. He also makes an annual $500 donation to the VB Club. Any extra proceeds go to charities that he gets requests from or he becomes aware of, that may need a helping financial hand. Larry retired from Canada Safeway in 1993 and for many years he operated a water delivery service in VB. He and his wife Diana, who helps by doing the administrative paper work behind the scenes, have 4 grown children and 7 grandchildren who enjoy spending time here at Victoria Beach. The next time you drop off your recycling and Larry is busy tending to the bins and cleaning up the area, please stop and thank him and his family for their many years of friendly, helpful service to our community and our recycling program. Household Hazardous Waste & E-Waste Recycling Event Wrap-Up Thanks so much to all the keen recyclers in VB for their support and the many items that were dropped off at the U-Haul truck in the Public Works Yard on August 1 and 2. We received numerous cans of paints, varnishes, spray paints, paint thinners, turpentine and yard chemicals. We accepted several ancient microwaves, cellular phones, chargers, stereos, batteries, toasters, TV’s, VCR’s and DVD players, printers, computers, coffee makers, fluorescent light bulbs and a whopper flashlight that could help land a plane or perform lighthouse duties. We were able to deliver it all to the Selkirk Recycling Depot on August 5 and I’m thrilled that we were able to divert it all from the landfill. I would like to make this an
annual VB event and I welcome your input and your volunteer time for next summer’s event. Thanks for the support of Council and to my Event Crew - Ivan McMorris, Karin Boyd and Gord Ross. Victoria Beach Snow Drifters
The snowmobile club of the area, Victoria Beach Snow Drifters, has been the snowmobile club organization in his area since 1962 and over time has developed some of the best trails in the province, right in our own backyard. Our trail system begins at the north end of Victoria Beach, south to Belair forest on the east side of #59 highway, on the lake from Albert Beach to the north end of Victoria Beach and south to Belair. Our trails are also numerous on the west side of #59 using Lakeshore Drive, the old railway bed behind the Birchwood Hotel and along #59/504 from Sandy Bay to Traverse Bay Corner. We do not groom to Hecla Island as the lake has bee unsafe the last few years with open water and ice ridges. Our trail on the lake to Belair connects with a lake trail to Grand Marais and it connects with a trail to Gimli. It is a great ride and the trails on the west side of the lake all connect to reach Hecla Island. An initiative taken on by all clubs in the last two years was to identify all the trails with signs in the same format as our provincial highways. All clubs have completed this task and with the new printed maps and also on line, it so easy to make your way around our provincial trails. Our new Groomer and Maintenance building has been completed behind the Hydro substation at #11 and #59 giving us great heated storage for our groomer and drag and also ample storage for trail signage and supplies. Our snowmobile club initiatives are: Enhance the enjoyment of snowmobiling in the area through fellowship, family outings and special events. Develop, maintain and enhance the trails in the area designated by the club. Provide club members with a unified voice for the betterment of snowmobiling.
Promote all aspects of safety in all snowmobiling activities. Promote and support Snoman, our Provincial Snowmobile Association and ERSA, the Eastern Region Snowmobile Association. We are: A group of volunteers and a general membership comprising avid snowmobilers and support all our initiatives. Our website is vbsnowdrifters.ca and is always kept up to date with all club information and news of upcoming events. Our next event coming up is on Saturday September 13th, Mug, Spud and Steak dinner fundraiser at the Birchwood Hotel from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM. This fundraiser is to help fund a new shelter/building for our Bombardier trails groomer and to support our club initiatives. Tickets are only $15 and include all the trimmings. There also will be a great prize selection at our silent auction, with the draws to be made at 8:00 PM. After the draws are made the Bombers vs. the Lions will be on the big screen at 9:00 PM. Watch the beach bulletin boards for more information, the Birchwood Buzz and the area monthly newsletters. Is snow that far away? Hope so!!!! Whether you like a wide open across the ice ride or a picturesque ride through the woods you will find it in our trail system. There are many warm up shacks along the trails to Grand Beach, Pine Falls and points south, newly planted spruce tree trails with lots of different wildlife to see. If you winter at VB, and it is so nice out here, join us for some fun rides to Hecla and many points on this side of the Lake. Chris Aldridge President

VB Library News It’s almost time for the library to close, but it’s been a very fun and exciting year at the Victoria Beach Library! Story time on Wednesday mornings was a great success and we enjoyed many themes such as Mo Willems, Disney, and Robert Munsch. A great big thank-you to all the children and their parents who came out and enjoyed the many wonderful stories with us! Another exciting announcement is the winner of our Gummy Worm Guessing Contest! Avid reader, Dana, guessed the exact amount of gummy worms in the jar and she won the prize: the jar of gummy worms itself! More news: we’d like to acknowledge and thank a patron of the library, Victoria Albl who graciously volunteered to put up curtain rods and new curtains at the library! We very much appreciate your wonderful contribution to the library! Sadly, as the library season is coming to a close, we must ask that EVERYONE return his or her library books!! You can return the books through the slot in the library door or drop it off during one of our last open days. The last day for the Library is August 17th. Duplicate Bridge We had our biggest turnout ever for duplicate bridge on Monday, July 28th. 28 players turned out for a fun evening of bridge. Congratulations to Bev Underhill & Bob Laumeyer who came first in the East – West position and Ken Capelle & Henry Krahn who came first in the North - South position. On Monday, August 4th, we also had 28 players enjoying bridge. VB Duplicate Bridge Tournament 2014 is the 30th anniversary of the Duplicate Bridge Tournament. Initiated in 1984 by J.D. Lees who also donated the trophy it has been a popular event ever since. 6 1/2 tables of enthusiastic Bridge players competed and here are the results: 1st place -- Fran Pollard and Donna Thain 65 points 2nd place -- Ken Capelle and Henry Krahn 59 points 3rd place -- Judy Hodgson and Arlene Prusak 56 1/2 points Several jugs of lime aid and water were consumed keeping everyone hydrated on a warm evening. VB bakery cookies were also a hit. The Monday evening weekly Duplicate Bridge game has become popular and has enhanced everyone’s game. A Message from the Senior Scene As we slowly wind our way through the lazy days of what has turned out to be a glorious summer, your local senior centre wants to remind you of the activities available to all members of our community. The Senior Scene is perhaps a misnomer as the 340 members ranging in age from 55 to 97 are a vibrant, active, fun-loving segment of your community. Our activities include bridge, exercise classes, yoga, line dancing, square dancing, monthly dinner/ dances, quilting, pickle ball and bingo. The programs are available to members and non-members. Our facility, located at 3 Ateah Road, is air conditioned, WiFi equipped, and available for rental for catered or non-catered events. The Victoria Beach branch of the Allard public library is located in the facility. This library is open Wednesday and Friday and is linked to the provincial library system. The East Beaches Resource Centre is also located at the Senior Scene. If you are among the lucky ones that get to extend your stay at the lake through the fantastic fall season or are able to get here on weekends, we would like to invite you to our annual Fall Supper. This event will be held Saturday, September 27th. There will be a 5:00 pm and a 7:00 pm sitting. Prices for tickets are $15 for adults, $8 for children under 12 and there is no charge for children five and under. Special Events News Wow! Most of the events wrap up this weekend. On Friday evening, Wendy Derksen & Leslie Sarchuk are organizing the VB Volunteer Appreciation. If you volunteered this summer or in previous years, please come down to the Clubhouse for some food, drinks, and prizes! Thank you to Wendy and Leslie for putting on this fun evening. On Saturday morning, we have two events: - The Cross Country Run – organized by the Johnson Family, and - The Novelty Tennis Tournament – run by Stino Siragusa Thank you to these repeat volunteers. (btw - The Novelty will be on all weekend). If you would like to hear about the VB Club, you can attend the AGM. Club President Anil Kaul will be chairing the meeting at the Clubhouse on Sunday morning, the 17th. For those of you lucky enough to be at VB in September, we have the 55+ Golf Tournament & Dinner run by Murray and Susan Spence. This last event of the summer will be on September 8th. Yacht Club News The Sprague Cup Regatta was held over the August long weekend featuring five total races of which the usual plan is two Saturday, two Sunday, one Monday depending on conditions of course. Arriving shamefully tardy for the skippers meeting at 10am on Saturday, the other sailors graciously offered me and crew some extra time to set up the boat and get to the race course, happy to have another boat in the fleet, which was now up to seven, a great showing. The wind was northerly meaning from the relatively sheltered yacht club deck it was hard to tell how windy it really was. The tech savvy amongst us pulled up meagre wind predictions, which influenced our mental preparations. Rigging up late meant that my crew and I had to make a beeline to the starting gates just off the pier. Cruising out of the sheltered bay of the yacht club one must putt along until you get to the pier and can feel the real force of the wind. We got there and the wind hit with more force than we bargained for, no worry, we adjusted but got ready for a more intense racing session than we thought. We started a tad late with the fleet just in front when a good gust hit that surprised some. One boat went over, and then another. My crew yelled for order as our own boat went up on one hull precipitously but was controlled. The remainder of the race was intense with gusty conditions and decent sized rollers making for challenging conditions. Skipper and crew were hiked out on the trapeze wires as much as possible to hold the boat down and it felt like we were flying, this was thrilling racing. Boats passed one another on various legs, hulls flying, and a constant spray of that delicious Lake Winnipeg water. A second race was held after the first in much the same conditions and excitement. Coming off the water smiles were contagious as well as exclamations of how much fun it had been out on the racecourse. This is the kind of day sailors live for, sun, wind, waves, and some friendly competition. Conditions were light on Sunday, and moderate on Monday. It was a good weekend on the water, but Saturday was great.

Met some old friends, some new ones, and they were all great to see, the people were okay but the dogs -- what can I say, THEY ARE DOGS!!! Biggest Senior Tennis Open in Years
This year’s Senior Tennis Open was a great success with 152 participants - making this once again the largest tournament in Manitoba. The quality of tennis was excellent, with fans being treated to "edge of your seat" excitement for many matches. Thanks to all followers on Twitter that enjoyed the real time updates. (Over 2,900 people opened the Tweets!) On behalf of Allan Morrish and myself, we would like to thank all the people who made the tournament a success. The draw committee of Mike Lodewyks, Geoff Kirbyson, and Hedy Heppenstall were a big help. Thanks to all the people that volunteered for clip board power hours including Ken Capelle, Anne Manning, Rex and Maureen Neuendorff, as well as many other actors that made this play possible. Special, special thanks to Elly Black for her help on the board over the entire tournament. You’re the best Elly! Thanks to all the folks I dragged out of bed on Saturday and Monday to help Squeegee the courts (That's you Aurelle and Brian!). Thank you to the court attendants for collecting the over $1,500 cash raised by the tournament. Special thanks to my co-chair Allan Morrish. He made my life easy and looked after many of the details - always with a smile and a Go Cup in hand. There’s a new game in town …
A big thank-you goes to Rhys Mitchell for running the first ever Victoria Beach Spikeball Tournament at Clubhouse Beach on Sunday August 3rd. It was the first known Canadian tournament and it ran smoothly with 16 Open teams, 22 Mixed teams and 8 Girls teams. Thanks to all those who participated and those who watched and cheered everyone on. At the end of many close games, the winners were: Rhys Mitchell and Emily Quinton for Mixed, Troy Buchanan and Mackie Quinton for the Open and Becky Loewen and Emily Quinton for the Girls division. Water Warriors – Walking for Water
On August 10, water warriors from Victoria Beach and surrounding areas, Walked for Water to demonstrate their passion for a cleaner lake. With pledges from their families and friends, over 100 people of all ages, babies and dogs in tow, met at the VB Clubhouse to embark on a 5 Km or 2.5 Km walk around Victoria Beach, all in expression of support for a cleaner lake and the Lake Winnipeg Foundation (LWF). The LWF works to address the root causes of harmful algae blooms through research, public education, stewardship and collaboration. As an environmental non-governmental organization (ENGO) it relies on membership fees, grants, donations and proceeds raised through the annual Lake -a -thon fundraising campaign and signature events, such as VB’s Walk for Water. This year, VB’s Walk for Water raised approximately $13,500 to provide assistance for education and research projects to help restore and sustain the lake for the benefit of future generations. A big thank you goes out to all the walkers making the trek and to all donors who pledged support. Your advocacy sends a strong message that we at Victoria Beach value and love our lake and want to join forces to make our lake healthy once again. This event is only possible with support of a cadre of volunteers, supporters and sponsors. Victoria Beach’s Walk for Water is one of several Lake-a-thon fundraisers happening throughout the summer in the East Beaches, as Manitobans support the LWF by organizing their own events. To coincide with the walk, the Children’s Arts and Crafts group, led by Nancy Sarchuk, created a transportable gallery of stained glass projects depicting, What the Lake Means to Me. Some of their projects were proudly on display at the walk. Way to go kids – our most enthusiastic ambassadors for a healthy lake! Saffies General Store held their annual Lake Winnipeg Awareness Day on Aug. 9, complete with a scavenger hunt, water games and presentations from a naturalist and the LWF, with all funds raised for upcoming LWF projects. The annual VB gourmet extravaganza was catered by Sophie McGoey and Sheila Grover, who prepared a private French meal for lucky diners. Merci to both the chefs and diners for their time, skills and generosity! Bon appetite! Lise at the VB Store promoted the Walk for Water by selling water drops for $1 to supporters of Lake Winnipeg. Debwendon Inc. set up a table at the Walk, in partnership with LWF to sell limited edition Lake Winnipeg Watershed Plant prints by artist, Henri Eric Bergman, to celebrate of the opening of the watershed trail. Yoga Wrapup It is hard to believe that another season of yoga at the beach is over. Thank you to all the people that attended the classes in the clubhouse. Susan and I are grateful for the support you give us and for sharing our love of yoga. We hope that many of you will continue your yoga journey. There are so many choices of traditions out there now. We’d like to thank our tournament conveners Stuart Juzda, Lorraine Cook, Sophie McGoey, and Stino Siragusa for the Masters, Melanie Charbonneau, Anil and Marnie Kaul for the Junior, John Heppenstall, and Allan Morrish for the Senior Open, and Stino Siragusa for the Novelty. Thanks to our event coordinators Nancy Sarchuk and Tennis Manitoba, and Hit with a Pro instructors Geoff Kirbyson, Bill Serbin, Robert Kennedy, and George and Kevin Kylar. When a tournament or event runs smoothly, people often fail to realize the hours of preparation that go into planning them. We would also like to thank the Adult Drills instructors who have made this program so popular. We are so fortunate to have such a wealth of local tennis talent who are willing to share their knowledge and skills and to give back to the VB tennis community. Thank you to volunteer instructors John Blair, Mike Lodewyks, Stephen Dubienski, Bill Serbin, Matthew Heiman, Alex Lesiuk, Geoff Kirbyson and Robert Kennedy for their time and expertise. If you see any of these volunteers on the avenues, please be sure to thank them. We’d also like to acknowledge the terrific group of young people who worked at the courts this summer. Thank you to Cole, Sophia, Eric, Ben, Sam, and Julia; you have done a fine job and it has been a pleasure working with you. A special thank you to John Guest, our head tennis attendant. John has stepped in and led this group with professionalism, common sense and balanced leadership. Well done, John! Finally, we’d like to thank you, the tennis membership, for your enthusiasm, participation and support this summer. It has been especially gratifying to witness all the new people playing tennis, the moms and dads rallying with their young children, the kids hanging at the courts, the friendly atmosphere and camaraderie at GVS. We’ve enjoyed playing, working, and socializing with you all and look forward to doing it all over again next summer. Although the activities and programming have come to an end for another year, tennis courts are available for your use. Please use the ball rack for court rotation. See you at the courts! The Noreen and Dave Reid cottage at 423 6th was entertained non-stop with the return of Brendan Black, (with girlfriend Whitney Brozic), after a 15 year absence. Reid, Brendan and Jaclyn Black spent 3 weeks every summer from 1989 to 1999 with Grannie and Grampa and it was a riot to watch Brendan relive his youth. Reid and Brendan played golf every day after swimming lessons while Nonnie fed them three squares and treated them to home-made butter tarts, Saskatoon pie and an endless supply of Chocolate Chip cookies. So much home baking that Laura did not recognize her boys when she picked them up at the Toronto airport that last summer. “Uncle Ian, I have two goals when I come out, I would like
Saskatoon pie and it would be fun to shoot the course record at VB”. I picked the Saskatoon’s so he ate his pie, and after two, chip-ins for Eagle, I think 31 might be hard to beat. Ian Reid

VB Junior Golf Tournament
This year’s Junior Golf Tournament will be remembered by the great weather, a golf course in fantastic shape, and all the juniors having fun! We would like to thank Karl, Ramona, and all the staff at VB Golf Course for all their hard work in assisting us on this event. A big thanks also goes to all those who donated prizes and chaperones who volunteered their time to walk with the juniors to keep score for them, this tournament would not be possible
without you. The theme for this year’s event was to make sure everyone had fun and received a great prize; golf is a great game for juniors to learn as it teaches them a wide variety of life skills and at the same time they make new friends. Cross Country Run Saturday, August 16th
Grab your runners and join the fun, you should be good and warmed up from all the fabulous events we have already had this summer. There are long course (5 km) and short course (3 km) options and many categories to allow participation by all! VICTORIA BEACH CLUB RAFFLE A HUGE SUCCESS The rain stopped, The skies cleared, The crowds came, And the tickets sold! WOW, did the tickets sell! The annual raffle in support of the Victoria Beach Club sold out and we made a recordbreaking $6800 for the club! A very special THANK YOU to the following people for their wonderful assistance and support in making this raffle such an outstanding success: our creative team of “package assemblers”, Michelle Brownell, Aynsley Walker, Melanie Tooley, Nicole Walker, Jessica Stewart and Maureen Stewart the behind the scenes team of Doug and Jessica Stewart, Jeremy Walker, Aynsley Walker, Tim Walker “delivery girl extraordinaire” Sharon Kreutzer set up crew – Tam Scott, Bill Stewart, Tim Walker, as well as several others who joined in at the last minute to speed up our “rain delayed” start ticket sale coordinator, Denise Deben ticket sellers Dianne Boyce, Denise Deben, Mary MacIntosh, Beth Pollard, Susan Schmidt, and “I won’t take no for an answer” Lloyd Schmidt Once again this year, we would like to extend huge thanks to the “Eight at the Gate” cycling group for their continued support and generosity in the purchase of the two fabulous bikes that were much admired (and desired!) by all the kids who attended the raffle, as well as many of the adults! Victoria Beach Police 6th Bi-annual Pedaling for Wishes Ride Wednesday August 20th 2014 Submitted by – Sergeant Clyde A. Raven (V.B.P.) Well, it’s that time again. Our 6th Bi-annual event for Children’s Wish goes this upcoming week on Wednesday August 20th 2014. Members of your Victoria Beach Police will once again lead a group of civilian Victoria Beach cyclists on a one day 130 km journey from the gates of Victoria Beach to the Travelodge East in Winnipeg. Our Participants have been busy raising donations for this event all summer long but could still use your help. If you are interested in donating please contact any member of the Victoria Beach Police or attend the Police Office on Tuesday August 19th between 5 –7pm to donate. For a donation of $20.00 or more you will receive an official tax receipt. To date our 5 previous events has raised over $65,000 and has granted a number of sick children their most heartfelt wishes. This year our goal is to raise another $20,000 and grant two more children’s wishes. Everyone is also welcome to come out to the gates on Wednesday morning August 20th at 7 am to send the riders off and wish them well on their long journey. The participants will be your neighbors, friends and fellow cottage owners/renters who have dedicated themselves to training most of the summer for this big ride. I know they would greatly appreciate your support on event day. For many of the participants this will be their “Marathon” in the cycling world and the event will be the longest distance they have ever cycled. This is also a reminder to ALL registered participants to attend the Police Office on Tuesday August 19th between 5-7pm to turn in all their donation money raised. At that time you will also

receive your Official Ride Jersey to be worn on event day as well as some important information about event day. If you have any questions or wish to donate but can’t get down to the Police Office on the 19th please contact event coordinator Sergeant Clyde Raven.

60 Years
Lifetime VBers, Claire (née Woodcock) and Gerry Jewers will be celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary on August 21st. Claire has been coming to her family cottage at 4th and King Edward every summer since birth. As a young boy, Gerry and his family would holiday at the Victoria Beach Inn. Claire and Gerry were high school sweethearts at Kelvin and carried the romance through their student days at University of Manitoba. They wed in 1954 and spent the first week of their honeymoon at, where else? VB! It is safe to say that they have spent part or all of every summer since then at VB together with family and friends sharing many great beach days (with annual photos on The Big Rock), bike rides, hikes, not serious golf and tennis, terrific meals, card games, parties and laughter. They will be celebrating their anniversary with their three daughters and sons-inlaw and five of their six grandchildren (one is away on a cycling adventure) in Gatineau. Congratulations!
