“If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the
Spirit” (Galatians 5:25) The Test of Time Based on Psalm 90:2
"Think about something you really want to have or something you want to do," said Ms. Cain to her Sunday School class. Several students looked thoughtful. Others giggled, and some whispered quietly as they wrote. "I want these shoes I saw online," said Phong. "I've always wanted to go to Disney World," added Hannah. Everyone smiled when Martin complained, "I want a cell phone. My friends text one another, but Mom says I have to wait." "I would like my grandfather to get well," Javier said quietly. Ms. Cain continued, "Now put your ideas to the Hundred Years Test. Think about how the world and people will be affected one hundred years from now by what kind of shoes you wore, where you went on vacation, or how old you were when you got a cell phone." "Oops!" said Jenn, grinning. "We need to think more long term."
The teacher said, "Something like the Hundred Years Test helps us see more clearly what's truly important. It helps us wait patiently, accept disappointments, and make good choices about how to spend our time and money. "God always thinks long term. Our heavenly Father looks far beyond today. He looks at things from an everlasting perspective. He loves us so much that He sent His Son to die for our sins so that we can spend eternity with Him." God wants us to live life fully and enjoy the things and experiences He gives us. However, what will matter in the future is if our words and actions help take the Good News of forgiveness in Jesus to others . by Dawn Napier Taken from My Devotions, Summer 2016, July 27th devotion Copright 2016, Concordia Pulbishing House 3558 South Jefferson Ave., St. Louis MO 63118 Placed in this week’s N&A by Gabriel Hartog
