“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you.”
(John 14: 27a) Twas the Night Before Pentecost Twas the night before Pentecost, And all through the town Such silence and stillness Were rare and unknown. The windows in homes were open and bare In hopes that a breeze would drift into there. Nobody dreamed what the new day would bring As they rose from their beds and heard the birds sing. The day seemed so much like any old other, When they hear “Get up”! From the mouth of their mother. But wow! Were they in for a great surprise As they gathered in one place soon after sunrise. Soon, out of nowhere, there rose a strange breeze That rushed through the air without bending the trees! And riding on this—a stout, holy blast—
Were dancing, small flames that flickered and flashed. The apostles spoke languages entirely new, Declaring God’s wonders to God-fearing Jews. From far-off places, folks gathered to hear That Jesus loves them and holds them so dear. God would that no sinner ever be lost, And that was the reason for Pentecost. by Ed Grube Taken from “My Devotions, Spring 2016”, Copyright 2016 Concordia Publishing House 3558 S.
