HOW TO CHECK YOUR EDUCATION CREDITS

Make sure that you have an account at www.myfloridalicense.com (create your profile). Please be aware that only YOU can access your profile account. Real estate instructors and associations cannot access. It’s your responsibility as a state licensee to keep track of your educational requirements and meet the deadlines. Log into “my account” and then “view my continuing education. “ Make sure that you are in the current renewal time period. You can toggle dates at “view my requirements for a different time period.” Always check this before you contact a real estate instructor, claiming that the person has not reported your credits yet.

For continuing education, AFTER the 45 hours Postlicensing has been completed for first renewal, Florida real estate licensees are required to take 14 hours of continuing education every 2 years. This is 3 hours of Core Law, 3 hours of Ethics and 8 hours of specialty (any real estate class that offers credits). You can earn credits through online classes, title companies & mortgage companies that offer CE classes, (ME) and associations. One great resource is the education calendar with Florida REALTORS®. (floridarealtors.org)

You can always earn more than 14 credits. So many agents come to me panicked because they cannot find a one-hour or two-hour class. So you simply take a three-hour class. Why wouldn’t you want to stay educated and relevant in your career? There is no such thing as too much education. Credits do NOT carry over to the next renewal period. If you have fulfilled your education requirements for your March 31st or September 30th renewal period, you can always wait until the next day (April 1st or October 1st) to take classes for the next renewal period.

National Association of REALTORS® requires Code of Ethics every THREE years. Not all Florida classes will meet the NAR requirements, so be careful! The ones that I offer through Accredited Real Estate Institute do! To receive Code of Ethics credits, you have to provide your LOCAL real estate association with a copy of your course completion certificate. That is your responsibility. Real estate instructors nor DBPR have the ability to report your COE class to NAR.

It is important to keep your course certificates either in a folder on your computer, or print out and keep in a file in your home office. Schools and instructors are not legally obligated to keep a copy on file; only the attendance registration sheets.

Always remember that if you are attending a virtual CE class, your video must be ON the entire class, you should not log in and out because your minutes are being counted for your attendance, you cannot engage in other activities during class, and you have to log in no time and attend until the end.
