The first version of Netbase was developed in 1991 for building hydraulic models and for leakage management. Subsequent versions were then used

by Crowder on consultancy projects for network improvement and asset management.

Since 1996, when Netbase was implemented by Essex & Suffolk Water, the client base has grown to include many of the UK’s water utilities with whom we have long standing relationships. Expansion into the international market began in 2002 and through our partnerships we have established clients in Malaysia and the Philippines.

Netbase Development The Netbase applications have been developed over many years by working in partnership with major water utilities. They embody water engineering principles and best practice.

The system is an ICT solution which brings together many sources of data into an integrated database of network information. The Netbase applications are incorporated into water utilities’ business processes for supporting many water distribution activities.

Resources - is for abstraction licenses and reservoir levels monitoring.

Water Balance - maintains the daily analysis and history of total integrated flow, NRW and losses for zones and DMAs.

The database is fully relational and spatial, based on the Water Utility’s GIS. The Time Series Data Repository (TSDR) in the database stores many years of short interval (e.g.

15 minute) measured data. The TSDR is frequently updated by the Water Utility’s measured data systems.

The Relational tables in the database are regularly updated by the Water Utility’s corporate data systems. The tables define the configuration of the water network, comprising monitored areas, connected customers, infrastructure assets, noninfrastructure assets and events.

The Activities tables in the database are analysis tables related to the applications and are updated following the import of new data.

Network Information - provides core functionality for navigating, displaying and analysing the data in all of the database tables.

LATIS & Sumdat - provide core functionality for displaying and summarising the time series data in the TSDR and the source systems.
