Dear Christian Surfers Family,
Have you ever waited for the last set to catch your final wave and the ocean just goes flat? Anxiety kicks in, and your blood pressure is pumping. It can feel impossible to be calm. But, it’s in those moments that we learn the value of being still.
As we look toward 2025, as an organization, our goal is to “Be Still” by being intentional about spending time with the Father.
Jesus demonstrates this as He spent time with the Father. Jesus was so busy. But, we read how time and time again, He prioritized being still with the Father. He would get up very early in the morning to be with Him.
Mark 1:35 says, “Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where He prayed.”
When we are trying to “Be Still” with the Father, life can feel disrupted.
I saw this with my family when we went on a wakeboarding trip. We woke up super early. It was midsummer so it was light at around 5:05 a.m. When we got to the boat, instead of starting the engine, we swam the boat far away from the houseboat it was docked next to. We were trying to be still so we could avoid waking anyone up. We also knew that being still would give us sheet glass water for the morning run.
The trip started calmly, but as the day went on, we almost lost the boat because of a monsoon. We had two to three feet swells banging against the houseboat.
It reminded me of how Jesus was resting on a boat one night with His disciples. They encountered a fierce storm and the disciples were freaking out. He just said, “Be still!” And He calmed the storm. He does that to our storms.
Mark 4:39 says, “He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, ‘Quiet! Be still!’ Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.”
In this last season, my life has been a lot of storms. It has felt like one hurricane after another has just tried to sink us. In the midst of it, my family has continued to draw near to the Father, and we have been able to “Be Still.”
My prayer for every one of us is that we can have special alone time with the Father. May we ‘Be Still.’ And, may we be intentional about spending time with the Father, like Jesus did.
DAVID NEHRIG CSUS National Director
So that every surfer and every surfing community would have the opportunity to know and follow Jesus.
Our method to achieve our mission is fivefold: connect, disciple, serve, partner and equip. Through our Christian Surfers’ (CS) Chapters, we aim to connect, disciple and serve. Through our CS National staff, we partner with like-minded organizations and equip our chapters to move toward our vision.
Inviting people into a genuine community, meeting them where they are, and connecting through weekly gatherings, chapter events, campouts, surfing and contest series.
Investing in intentional relationships that guide and model Jesus. Empowering communities so they can pour into others.
Meeting the needs of our surf communities and beyond (locally, nationally and globally) while partnering with organizations that enhance our mission.
Cultivating relationships with like-minded and trustworthy organizations to achieve our vision through serving people in countries across the globe.
Providing resources and support for ministry to create opportunities and platforms that empower our chapters to advance our mission.
We exist so that every surfer and every surfing community has the opportunity to know and follow Jesus.

LARRY GARRETT Hawai’i Region

ChristianSurfers in Hawai’i faces a unique dynamic that is unlike other regions. The Hawaiian surf culture is famously independent and “local,” and outsiders who become insiders, earn that right over time and with a commitment to respect for the local people and traditions. With that in mind, our relaunch of a CS chapter on the island of Oahu, Christian Surfers North Shore, is intended to lean on leadership from local believers who are a part of the surf community. With that model, we pray that God will continue to use CS to impact the community for Jesus and as a catalyst for Him in the lives of surfers now and for years to come. As people, you will not find a heart that is as willing to serve and share with others as the people of Hawai’i. We, as Christian Surfers Hawaii, aspire to be an organization that is always giving back to the people. Jesus is the gift we bring.
This year we kicked off our internship program in January, and we have been super busy training and working with the team. Christian Surfers Hawai’i and Revolution Hawa’’i have joined forces to make an impact in the lives of those willing to go deeper and serve the people of Hawai’i. The program started in September of 2023 and continued to May of 2024. It is broken up into two sessions for those who don’t want to or can’t stay the whole nine-month session. Those who come in for the CS
internship learn how to run and lead a chapter, learn to surf if they never have, and join a community of believers who want to reach the world for Jesus.
The Hawai’i Warm Water Camp Out was a hit. We had people from all over the nation come out and enjoy the North Shore and the amazing lineup of people who shared Jesus with us. The surf was epic and we had some amazing food...Mahalo nui loa Sam Keanaaina. The campout was hosted at Camp Homelani, which is the same place where we currently have the internship. In attendance was well-known shaper, John Carper. John ran a CS chapter out of his surf shop in the mid-90s and knows the importance of the CS community and the ability to share Jesus with surfers.
We purposely didn’t pick a theme for the camp, but instead, we wanted to see how the Holy Spirit moved and what He would put on each speaker’s heart for His people. In the end, our final words were summarized and the theme was clear… ’Without faith, it is impossible to please God.’ We are to remain faithful and choose daily this life that pleases our Lord Jesus Christ. Following Him with all of our heart, mind, soul and strength keeps us in the place He wants us to be to give Him the most Glory.

Whata year it has been here on the Gulf Coast! From serving local communities through learn-to-surf camps and paddle-out memorials to mission trips and outreaches across the Gulf Coast, it has been a busy but rewarding year of ministry reaching surfers. This past year we helped lead over 50 people on Surf & Serve trips to the Dominican Republic, Panama, El Salvador, Nicaragua and Costa Rica, as well as helping to lead Foundations Training in Baja and the OBX campout!
The Pensacola chapter was busy all summer with their slate of learn-to-surf camps. The chapter and volunteers shared the gospel with around 150 people eager to learn how to surf and learn about Jesus. Partnering with Upper Room Church, Royal Family Kids, Waterboyz Surf & Skate, First City Church, Three18 and Innerlight Surf Shop, the chapter served communities of foster children, deaf and hard of hearing, and an all-female camp.
The annual Sister Surf Camp in Pensacola has turned into such a powerful way for the CS chapter in Pensacola to reach the fastest-growing segment of the surf community, females. The chapter comes together in support of the event, but the camp itself is run and taught fully by female members of the chapter and community. This year, around 50 girls and women joined together for an amazing day celebrating female surfing, learning to surf, and hearing about Jesus!
Seeds are being planted and watered all along the Gulf Coast, and we continue to focus on a few key communities with the idea of planting chapters there and growing from those communities outward to even more surrounding communities.
This past summer was the first official Texas road trip for CS. I drove over to Galveston for a long weekend and began meeting with churches and individuals who are in agreement that their community (and surrounding TX surf communities like South Padre Island, Port Aransas, Surfside, Matagorda and Corpus Christi) could really benefit from having CS in their town or somewhere nearby. I am heading back to continue to develop relationships, do outreach and meet with more people stoked on CS in Texas in the beginning of 2025! After Texas, I will be heading to the West Coast of Florida and the Northern Gulf throughout the spring and fall! Be praying for God’s will to be done during these upcoming trips.
As the region continues to develop and grow, God has put some big plans in place for 2025! We plan on running our first East Coast/Gulf Coast Foundations Training this summer to help equip and grow leaders of all ages. Foundations Training has proven to be an invaluable tool across the country and we are expecting it to produce some epic fruit in the coming years.

TheMid Atlantic Region is representing Jesus in so many sweet ways. In Mark 10:45, Jesus said, “The Son of Man came not to be served but to serve and give his life as a ransom for many.”
This past year, several surfers from different chapters in the region joined in on Surf and Serves to Panama, Chile, Dominican Republic, El Salvador and others. But sometimes the easy way to serve Jesus is on a mission trip.
Our region is taking it to the next level by serving their local breaks in Jesus’s name too. Manasquan stepped up on short notice and served at For the Girls Surf Classic, where they had the opportunity to hand out Surfers Bibles. Virginia Beach loves its community by helping at the Steel Pier Classic, Young Life of West Virginia and other local events. Cape Hatteras gets surfing tourists all year long, especially during the summer. They had the opportunity to hand out their entire stash of Surfers Bibles to surfers from around the world.
Surf City has such a solid reputation with their community and it shows. They recently had their annual soft top competition called the Colonel Classic with the most entries ever! Several
Surfers Bibles were handed out after conversations. Myrtle Beach continues to be faithful and enjoying time on the beach sharing Jesus in the lineup and even having a Surf church planted out of their gathering. Lake Michigan is pouring out Jesus’s love by providing free surf lessons at various breaks as well as putting on their second annual Christian reggae concert.
New chapters are in various stages of formation. Pray for places like Charleston, S.C., as a team is forming. Keep the Brunswick County beaches in Southeastern N.C. before the Lord. The Crystal Coast in central coastal N.C. is gaining momentum. The DelMarVa peninsula has room for a chapter or three – pray! New Jersey is wide open and relationships are being built. Long Island has amazing potential. The remaining New England coastline is yet to be tapped into. The Great Lakes has some of the most dedicated surfers on the planet and conversations with surfers on the Wisconsin side of Lake Michigan are in baby steps.
As Jesus says in Matthew 9:37-38, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”
“CS PROVIDED THE VALUES AND CHRISTIAN PRINCIPLES I HAD ALWAYS BEEN LOOKING FOR AND A COMMUNITY OF PEOPLE I COULD DO LIFE WITH AND SHARE THOUGHTS AND IDEAS ABOUT FOLLOWING JESUS WHILE ALSO HAVING A CAREER AND FAMILY. GOD AND THIS COMMUNITY HAVE ALLOWED FOR MY HEART TO BECOME TENDER AGAIN. AND I’M JUST REALLY EXCITED TO BE A PART OF THIS FOR THE LONG RUN, SERVE ON MISSIONS, AND LEARN HOW I CAN HELP.”

The Southeast Region had an awesome year of renewal. Two of the longest-running chapters in the region have gone through seasons of pruning but now are ready to send it. New Smyrna Beach is growing due to a fresh partnership with Beachside Baptist Church and a new group of faces that have stepped up to lead the chapter. They are planning to fully launch at the end of 2024! We also saw a similar transition in Daytona Beach with a newly formed leadership team. This year, Christian Surfers (CS) Daytona Beach has already been able to serve the community at several memorial paddle outs and brought back the Annual Spring Fling surf contest in May. We are so excited to see these two chapters back in pursuit of these iconic east coast beach towns.
We also saw two Surf & Serve teams sent out from the region this year. The first team spent a week partnering with CS Peru in May. The team spent time in northern Peru partnering with CS Huanchaco and then partnered with a brand new chapter in Pacasmayo. Back in Huanchaco, the team worked with Casa Hogar Mundo de Ninos, a local boy’s home on the outskirts of town. The CSUS team was joined by 15 of the members of CS
Lima. The relationships and connections built over the week laid the foundation for many more years of partnership between CSUS and CS Peru.
Our second trip was with CS St. Augustine in partnership with Colonial Church to El Salvador. The team spent time with the leaders of CS El Salvador and Heaven Church visiting the CS chapter in Majahual, a local mission that works with youth struggling with alcohol and drug addiction. They also visited two churches in more remote parts of the country – one near the Honduran border and the other on a barrier island not too far from Surf City. This community is almost completely isolated except by boat. The team arrived to meet the pastor and the local community and worked on the church building while some of the team set up a day of fun for the kids in the village. We saw children playing and laughing while also learning about the Bible. Women from the community came together to pray, some for the first time in their lives.
These trips combine the heart of CS to connect with surfers and communities and also with the local church.
“CHRISTIAN SURFERS HAS BEEN A TREMENDOUS BLESSING IN MY LIFE, AS GOD HAS USED IT TO GROW ME CLOSER TO OTHER BELIEVERS WALKING WITH JESUS, WHO ALSO LOVE SURFING. MY FAVORITE PART OF CHRISTIAN SURFERS IS THAT NOT ONLY DO WE GET TO SURF AND HAVE FUN AS FAMILY TOGETHER AS BROTHERS AND SISTERS IN THE FAITH, BUT THAT THE LORD CAN USE US TO BRING PEOPLE TO HIM THROUGH SURFING AND HANDING COFFEE OUT AT THE BEACH.”

Southwest Region
Wooooooo! What a great year on the West Coast. We had the fourth Foundations Training deep in Mexico. We ran our fourth Surf and Serve to Chile. We had our third Regional Update Night. We had the seventh regional Coldwater Campout. There are chapters firing in Point Loma, Pacific Beach, Cardiff, Carlsbad, Oceanside, San Clemente, Huntington, and Santa Cruz. We are working on starting chapters in La Jolla, Ventura, Goleta and Morro Bay. My title has changed from West Coast Regional Coordinator to Southwest Regional Coordinator due to Mikayla coming on staff as the Northwest Regional Coordinator.
We love our partnerships with Soul Survivor Outdoor, ALEPH Baja, FCA Surf, YWAM San Diego, YWAM Chile, Mission Increase, Young Life, and many amazing local churches that support Christian Surfers being the bridge from the beach to the church.
As of September 1, the Oceanside CS guys’ discipleship house called The Launchpad has been up and running for one whole year. There has been tons of fruit coming from these amazing guys living in tight community and accountability. They started a mentoring program called Launchpad Shapes, where they chose six young men to pour into every Saturday by teaching them to shape a surfboard while also being shaped by God. One of the students recently came to know Jesus and was baptized.
Overall, there is deep growth happening through consistency and commitment from our volunteers, partners and churches. Our region puts on all these events, runs all these chapter meetings, prays and serves together so that every surfer and every surfing community would have the opportunity to know and follow Jesus.
MIKAYLA ALAHUZOS
Pacific Northwest Region

This was my first year as the Pacific Northwest (PNW) Regional Coordinator. Although it’s hard to pinpoint growth, especially when first starting, we have had a year full of new beginnings. We hosted our first regional campout for the PNW which was a very special time. The theme was Death to Life. I felt like God was saying He would breathe new life into the area, and we would start seeing spiritual dry bones come back to life. Since the campout, we have seen significant growth. There was one person who came to the campout who rededicated her life over to the Lord, after years of not following Jesus. She has been a huge light in her local lineup and our CS community.
We have a group of groms, ranging from 12-18, who are on fire for Jesus and surfing. Through surf trips, spontaneous outreach missions and lots of local hangouts, I’ve seen this group grow in their faith, relationships with each other and passion to see Jesus move through them in their local surf community. Two of them decided to get water baptized. Three of them went on the Foundations Training trip led by Cheyne Jobbins, where they came back fired up on the mission of CS and were passionate about seeing God move in their local area. They are an incredible group of teenagers who are ready to lead and make an impact in this region.
There has also been a relaunch of the Pleasure Point chapter in Santa Cruz. The chapter was started by a CS legend, Joe McCroskey, who went home to be with Jesus. He was loved and admired by all and made a huge impact in the surfing community both locally and around the world. The chapter was taken over by a group of committed leaders who have been faithfully showing up and making connections with the surfing community through bonfires and pancake outreaches.
The PNW is bursting with activity and there are a lot of surfing communities that are ready to have chapters. There are over 10 thriving surfing communities in Northern California alone that could be ready for a CS chapter. The imminent goal is to see a chapter started at Ocean Beach, Pacifica and Montara, three thriving surfing communities in the San Francisco area. There are also connections forming in surf communities in Oregon and further up the coast in Tofino, Canada. Those connections will take time to foster growth, but there is definitely a stirring happening in that part of the region. I’m excited and expectant of all that God has planned for the PNW.

West Coast CS Girls

This year has been so epic and fruitful for the Christian Surfers (CS) Girls on the West Coast! One of the most exciting things has been the growing unity among girls from all along the coast. From campouts in Baja Mexico to gatherings in Ventura County, we’ve come together in community. It’s inspiring to see increasing participation at each chapter and a rise in female leaders! Upcoming leaders are organizing campouts, events and Bible studies for girls. Christian Surfers Girls has truly become a space where women can be welcomed into both adventure and a shared faith in Jesus.
Another blessing has been witnessing the diverse ages and stages represented in our chapters — from young girls to mothers! Women are mentoring the next generation, while older members lead us in adventure. This reflects the scripture: “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another — and all the more as you see the Day approaching” (Hebrews 10:24-25, NIV). Our annual West Coast girls campout in Ventura brought
together ages ranging from 7 to 50, all united in their faith and community.
This year, we also launched Moms and Groms days, allowing mothers to surf while their little ones are cared for on the beach — creating a new opportunity for mom shredders to connect with each other in the Christian community. Additionally, we’ve seen exciting growth with the CS Girls Journal, as younger girls come together for monthly sessions, supported by women leaders in each chapter. This year both campouts on each coast have had all-girls surf days and devotional times.
I am so stoked to see how the Lord will continue to work through this community to reach those who are lost. Next year, we’ll host two all-girls mission trips, including empowering amazing ladies from the East and West Coast to lead our El Salvador trip. I’m excited to see women represented in Christian Surfers, using their God-given talents, and for every generation to feel valued, accepted, and supported within our community.
“CS GIRLS IS A GROUP OF SURFER GIRLS WHO ARE NOT JEALOUS OF EACH OTHER BUT ARE ENCOURAGING IN THE WATER AND IN FAITH. THEY ARE GIRLS WHO ARE BRAVE AND LOVE THE WATER. THEY INCLUDE EVERYONE, EVEN THOSE WHO ARE NOT CHRISTIANS AND YET STILL POINT THEM TOWARD GOD. THEY WELCOME ANY LEVEL AND AGE AND ARE SO SWEET. IN FACT, IT’S SUCH A WONDERFUL THING TO BE MENTORED BY AN OLDER CHRISTIAN SURFER GIRL. I AM SO GRATEFUL FOR THE BIBLE STUDIES THAT THE OLDER GIRLS PLAN FOR US TO DO TOGETHER ALONG WITH THE FUN ACTIVITIES. THEY MEAN A LOT TO ME!”

One of the main statements I’ve heard over the past year is “I love all the events CS has for females.” YES!! That means we’re doing our job well! From all-girl Surf and Serves, campouts, Bible studies and journals, females are starting to have a major role in Christian Surfers (CS). This is exactly where we want to be as females continue to have a major role in the line up.
Christian Surfers Girls East Coast has excelled in all of the things listed, and it’s only because females in CS are taking up the torch of female leadership and pouring into their chapters. Ministry is meant to be done together and that’s exactly what we’ve been prioritizing over the past year. Doing ministry together and building up others to do it with us!
It’s not just young girls that are doing this either, it’s women of all ages! There’s no perfect age for discipleship to start or end, and it has been a joy seeing different generations of discipleship form within Christian Surfers Girls. From a 55-year-old mom that said “I need a break from the family, I’m doing this for me!” and went on the all-girls Surf and Share to El Salvador, to middle school girls starting up their own CS Girls Bible studies, it has been such a fruitful year of growth and discipleship.
I recently heard someone say, “If we’re not reaching female surfing in Christian Surfers, then there goes half of our target.” Christian Surfers Girls is here to say we have a seat at the table for you, no matter what!

“I think there’s so many beautiful new ways to see God when you’re challenging yourself and doing things that are uncomfortable and seeing parts of the world in a mission trip. When you are doing all this work, when it’s the Lord’s work, it just brings the community together. It doesn’t matter what you’re doing in your life or what stage of life you are in because we are all the same and we’re all just serving the same God.”
— Avery Harper

“It’s beautiful to see how even though we are stretched, the Lord really uses it to reveal truths that maybe we wouldn’t have noticed until we get into the place of being uncomfortable like hitting a breaking point or feeling weak. You have to rely on the Lord to keep going.”

“I felt like I was built a lot spiritually and scored really good waves with people. There were some disappointments in a sense because we didn’t know if we would finish our project on time. But I learned that disappointments have a purpose. God builds you through disappointments and hard times. Be open to having your faith built and getting out of your comfort zone physically and spiritually.”
—James Havens Nicaragua
“My favorite part of the trip was watching the CS US and CS Peru teams interact with each other. It was like watching ‘iron sharpen iron…’ I loved seeing both teams try to communicate, despite the language barrier. Not only through language, but through action too. The amount of love for one another was overwhelming, even though we all were from totally different walks of life. The one thing we all had in common was the Lord working in our lives. That’s what brought me joy and the gladness of heart.”
— Caleb Bowen Peru
“One of my favorite parts about the Costa Rica trip was spending time with the entire group and basically becoming one big family. I really felt that God put me on this trip to be reminded about how important community is and how valuable it is to have Christian friends to not only have fun with but to form deep, intentional connections with. This mission trip to Costa Rica left an everlasting impact on me. I grew so much in my faith and solidified my relationship with Jesus.”
— Abby Crowley Costa Rica
“On this trip, God showed up in such a beautiful way. I had been praying for months for intentional female friendships who are passionate about their faith, have a good sense of humor, pursue community and love adventure. God answered that prayer by bringing together some of the most wonderful women from around the country. Every single woman who came on this trip was inspiring and hilarious. We got to share testimonies, pray over each other, talk about our walks with God, and be vulnerable and fully present.”

SoulSurvivor Outdoor’s mission is to impact the world for Christ, one military service member at a time. SSO uses adventure activities such as rock climbing, river rafting, skydiving and more to bring the Gospel to active duty military personnel. We are so proud to say that we have formed an amazing partnership introducing surfing to their list of activities.
In the name of spiritual and emotional fitness, we pull an active duty military unit out of a workday to meet at the beach with coffee, donuts, and surf lessons. We watch hardened, closed-off military members transform into laughing, smiling kids as they catch waves for the first time. After the surf lesson, we gather under the SSO tent for lunch and a Gospel presentation.
There is no fluff. The very direct gospel of Jesus Christ is shared through testimony and the Bible. My mind is blown every single time because without fail, when heads are bowed and eyes closed and the call to action is given (I open my eyes every time), nearly 70% of the group responds with open hearts to Jesus and the first step is taken.
We love serving with SSO and using surfing to bring active duty military members to know and follow Jesus. We see so much more opportunity to partner in deeper ways. With CS chapters around the world and the military constantly on the move, we hope to not only help service members come to KNOW Jesus but also connect them to CS chapters near military bases to help them continue to FOLLOW Jesus long-term!

ChristianSurfers Jupiter had the pleasure of partnering this past May 2024 with Surfers For Autism (SFA) a local non-profit focused on throwing surf focused Beach Festivals for children and adults with autism and other related developmental delays and disabilities. As surfers, we know the healing powers of salt water, but for those with sensory disorders, the weightlessness, the rhythmic pattern of the waves, the white noise and negative ions can calm and soothe the senses in a way that you and I may take for granted. Moose Brown, founder of SFA is vocal about autism and his hope for providing a fun and supportive community to come alongside those navigating the road of autism through starting the organization back in 2007. Since the inaugural event in 2008, SFA has hosted various hydrotherapy events throughout Florida as well as international venues to carry out the organization’s vision and is now expanding into equine therapy for when the seas go flat.
The May 2024 event boosted a killer showing of families and volunteers to a beautiful morning of tropical blue waves! There were sweet musical vibes through both the morning and afternoon surf sessions as volunteers paired up with riders to push them into waves as
family and volunteers cheered from the beach. The IAFF (International Association of Firefighters) Local 2928 cooked up an amazing spread for lunch as everyone pigged out to the max and prepped to get back into the water for round two in the most positive environment ever. It’s events like these that CS is pleased to partner with, do some heavy lifting or end of day clean-up at or simply being on the beach to talk and listen to those having the best (or worst) day of their lives.
Jesus came to the hurting, the brokenhearted, those looking for a miracle and those who the world has overlooked – for they are His kids too. But what Jesus knew is that no-one is made on accident, not those with autism nor with disabilities! What we gain through serving at an event like this is a place where we can all be in unity in our blessed ocean, our most favorite place doing our most favorite thing. And it is there that we can find our fellow siblings, adopted King’s kids having the time of our lives, stoked over wave after wave, just like He designed us! If you have never been to a SFA day, I tell you to bring your tissues because it will be one of the best and most humbling days of your life. Stay stoked for Him!

So that every surfer has the opportunity to know Jesus, Christian Surfers (CS) desires to get a Surfers Bible in the hands of every surfer who has yet to discover the life-changing story of Jesus. Our CS Bible contains stories from well-known surfers around the world and surf industry professionals.
In 2024, a new English and French translation of the Surfers Bible was released. Since then, 14,164 Bibles have been given out globally, with 7,463 Bibles handed out in the U.S. The Bible was previously printed and distributed over 100,000 times in English, French, Spanish, Portuguese and Japanese.
To fund the printing of the Bible, Christian Surfers International puts together an annual global Surf-a-Thon fundraiser. In 2023, Christian Surfers United States raised over $87,000, contributing to the $164,000 worldwide total raised. With the Bible costing $8, this total makes it possible for the Surfer’s Bible to be handed to 20,500 people who have yet to hear the gospel.
Stay tuned for details on an upcoming Surf-a-Thon scheduled for October 2025! The fundraiser will focus on printing the Bible in Spanish and additional prints in English.
