Win Streak Extends to 14 in Win Over KIAC Rival

Lexington Midfielder Signs with Asbury

Asbury's volleyball team traveled to take on conference rival IUSoutheast Tuesday night in game two of the season series and just 14 days since their last meeting in Wilmore that went the full five sets, ending in a 3-2 Eagles' win. Asbury captured the win 3-1 (2520, 25-15, 21-25, 26-24) in the Grenadiers' home gym.

Wilmore, KY--Haven Buckner, captain of the Tates Creek High School lacrosse team and one of her team's leading scorers, has signed to play with Asbury. She will join the Eagles for the 2015-16 season. Haven is the first lacrosse player from Tates Creek to sign to play at the college level and she is the Eagles' first lacrosse recruit from Tates Creek.

The win is Asbury's 14th consecutive win pushing their record 24-6 overall. The Eagles are in the midst of double-digit win streak for the fourth time in the past five seasons. Last season the Eagles won 19 in-a-row before falling to Park (Mo.) in the NAIA National Tournament. In both 2010 and 2011, Asbury had win streaks of 18 games.

"We're very happy to have Haven on board," said Rich Manieri, Eagles' head coach. "She's a hard worker, very coachable, and an impressive young lady. She'll be a very important part of our team in our second year and beyond."

The win is also the sixth win in as many tries for their conference record, putting them at 6-0 and at the top of the KIAC standings. Courtesy Asbury University

This season is the first for both men's and women's lacrosse at Asbury. "We want to create a positive culture here," Manieri said. "That's vital, for our team and for our university. Haven understands that and I know she'll be a great fit here." Haven plans to major in equine science. "I'm very excited," she said. "I'm going to work very hard so I can be ready for next year." Campbellsville holds on for 28-24 win over No. 3 Georgetown Georgetown College's and Campbellsville University's defenses were allowing just more than two touchdowns a game between the pair before Saturday's showdown. However, in a rivalry game a lot of things can be thrown out the window. That was the case as the No. 3 Tigers (4-1) battled Campbellsville (4-2).

Chris Megginson Georgetown had a chance, trailing by four with time running out on the Campbellsville threeyard line. Out of GC's final time out, Demonte Smith got the call for a one yard gain. Georgetown hustled to the line, Neal Pawsat's pass sailed through the back of the endzone, time expired and CU held on for the 28-24 win on Homecoming.

Bluffton 31, Rose-Hulman 17

The Bluffton University football team made the long trip to Terre Haute, Ind. worth it as they pulled off the upset over the previously-unbeaten Rose-Hulman Engineers, 31-17. The Beavers were up against the top-ranked offense in NCAA Division III in total yards and passing yards per game coming into the contest and they were up to the task. Bluffton and RHIT now both sit at 2-1 in conference play, tied for third behind Franklin and MSJ. The Beavers are 2-3 overall while Rose-Hulman slipped to 4-1. Both teams started the first quarter quietly, each garnering only a field goal in the opening 15 minutes. The Beavers were able to get the offense rolling in the second stanza, however, as a 34-yard touchdown run for senior Eric Fox (Brunswick) put the Beavers up 10-3 early in the second quarter. Then after Bluffton recovered a fumble on the ensuing Engineer drive, a quick 40-yard strike from sophomore Conner Sheehan (Monroeville, Ind./Heritage) to senior Donovan Brown (Cincinnati/Purcell Marian) got Bluffton to the 11, before quarterback Nick Sheehan (Monroeville, Ind./Heritage) finished the quick drive with an 11-yard TD run for a 17-3 lead just five minutes into the second stanza. The Beavers were able to hold the home team to just 353 yards of total offense, which was almost 300 yards under their season average of 622 yards per game. Bluffton had 341 yards of their own, with 244 of them being through the air. Turnovers also played a huge factor in this game as the Engineers turned it over five times while the visitors did not commit a turnover. Bluffton dominated the time of possession (37:00-23:00) and both teams converted on three of their four trips into the red zone. In addition to the five takeaways, the Beaver defense finished the contest with 11 breakups. By: Ryan Schadewald, sports information assistant

Football Thrills Homecoming Crowd With Dramatic 42-35 Overtime Victory

The Malone University football team picked up an exciting 42-35 overtime win at home Saturday in its Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) contest against Northern Michigan University. After falling behind 35-21 with just over six minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, the Pioneers (1-5 overall, 1-5 GLIAC) rallied back to force overtime, scoring on a pair of touchdown throws by quarterback Kaleb Scott. A four-yard toss to running back Ronnie Beers capped a 75yard drive and pulled Malone to within 35-28 at the 4:21 mark of the fourth stanza. Scott then connected with wide receiver Josh McLaughlin on Malone's longest offensive play of the season – a 62-yard touchdown pass that tied the game up at 35-35 with 2:34 to go. The Pioneer defense forced a three-and-out on Northern Michigan's (1-5 overall, 0-5 GLIAC) ensuing possession, but kicker Marcus Moeller's 48-yard field goal attempt sailed wide left as the fourth-quarter clock expired, sending the game to overtime. Malone got the ball first in the extra period and quickly put seven points on the scoreboard as Beers crossed the goal line with his fourth touchdown of the afternoon – this time on a six-yard run to make the score 42-35. Tiffin 20 Ferris State 68 Things came apart quickly for Tiffin University's football team when they travelled north to take on 13th-ranked Ferris State, as the Bulldogs tallied 35 first quarter points en route to a big 6820 victory over the Dragons (3-3, 3-3 GLIAC).

Saginaw Valley St. (1-5) 7 Ashland (5-1) 38

Ashland University senior tailback Anthony Taylor has broken many records in his 3½-plus seasons as an Eagle. Saturday afternoon, however, he had the opportunity to break a record with the man he was passing in attendance. Taylor, already Ashland's all-time touchdowns record-holder, became AU's football's all-time leading rusher, passing newly-minted Ashland University Sports Hall of Famer Keith Weaver, after gaining 108 yards in a 38-7 Homecoming victory over Saginaw Valley State. "It feels pretty good," said Taylor, who noted he had a chance to talk to Weaver after the victory. "Real nice guy, seemed really down to Earth. He was very supportive. He said that if it had to be broken by anybody, he was glad it was me." Said AU head coach Lee Owens, "I don't know if you could draw it up any better. I don't know if you could script it any better. It was a pretty special day. Courtesy Ashland University
