Bluffton University sophomore MacKenzie McFarlin (Ashland) was recently named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week on offense for her work in the Sommer Center over the weekend. by Jordan Alves - Sun, Sep. 28, 2014 [BasebalL) CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — Tiger baseball is halfway through its eight week fall practice schedule and head coach Beauford Sanders, who is entering his 25th season at the helm of the Tigers, is excited about the newcomers. Sanders and recruiting coordinator Brad Neffendorf put an exclamation point on the 2014-15 recruiting class by signing 14 players.

by Jordan Herrod The Belhaven golf team finished the second half of the Pinnacle Trust Invitational at Castlewoods Country Club on Tuesday, landing in fourth place among nine teams. The Blazers shot 312 as a team on Monday and 317 on Tuesday, giving them a two-day total of 629. "The fall is a time for preparing, and most of our guys had at least one solid round," Head Coach Dan Lickness said. "Additionally, we got our first top five finish of the year, so this was a good tournament for us." The Blazers will hit the links again on October 19th, when they take part in the Millsapd Collegiate Inviational in Canton. "We're going to continue to work hard because we are excited about our next tournament," Lickness said. "The last two days reminded us that we are heading in the right direction."

Michelle Varner has been a key component of Midway's offense this season and after playing only one game, she leads all players in NAIA Division I soccer in assists/game (2.00). Soccer

Volleyball Emily Castleman may be new to Midway, but she's already making her mark on the court. The Libero/DS, who transferred from New Mexico Military Institute, has tallied a team-leading 53 digs in just five matches this season.

4) Faulkner University at 10 (6) Georgetown 27 Defense is the name of the game. It has been a huge staple in Georgetown College tradition of success and certainly flexed its muscle Saturday against No. 4 Faulkner University in the NAIA Game of the Week. The No. 6 Tigers (4-0) had 13 sacks, one short of the national record, and handed the visiting Eagles (5-1) a 27-10 setback. This is a huge feat facing one of the most prolific scoring offenses and a quarterback that is averaging 399 yards of total offense. "The whole plan was to get to him (Terrell Robinson)," said GC defensive coordinator Shan Housekeeper. "No one has done that this season. We knew if we were able to pressure him, make him think, the ball swings in our favor." Swing it did. Faulkner came in as the fourth best offensive team in the nation, averaging 44.6 points per game. The team did not have a touchdown until early in the fourth quarter when an 81-yard pass play made it 20-10. "This is a great win, but honestly it is a long road still ahead and we have to keep getting better," Cronin said. "We play Campbellsville next week and it is always a battle between the two Tiger teams." Photo by Richard Davis

Bluffton 20, Hanover 14 - It took a little Hanover to beat Hanover and that is just what Bluffton used on a frigid Homecoming Saturday, Oct. 4, 2014. The Bluffton University football team, under the direction of Head Coach Denny Dorrel, defeated the Panthers, 20-14, for Bluffton's first victory over Hanover since 2005 and just the second since 1990. The Malone University football team suffered a 4213 defeat in its Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) contest at Ashland University Saturday night. The host Eagles (4-1 overall, 4-1 GLIAC) jumped out to an early 21-0 advantage after engineering touchdown drives on each of their first three possessions. The Pioneers (0-5, 0-5 GLIAC) answered back with just under five minutes remaining in the first half as running back Kyle Nutter capped a 12play, 72-yard drive with a one-yard TD plunge. The lengthy scoring march was aided by a 34-yard pass from quarterback Kaleb Scott to wide receiver Josh McLaughlin and a four-yard run by Nutter on 4th & 1. Ashland, which entered the contest ranked among the GLIAC leaders in rushing, tallied all six of its TDs and 382 of its 552 total yards on the ground. Malone countered with 258 yards of offense, 138 passing and 120 rushing.

For the first time ever, TU (3-2, 3-2 GLIAC) defeated Wayne State 26-23, posting another road victory over a tough GLIAC opponent. It is also the first time Tiffin has ever had 3 GLIAC victories in the same season. To make it even more sweet for the Dragons, they led for most the contest, only trailing in the game for a total of 97 seconds. The defenses dominated on both sides early, as Tiffin managed two field goals from Tomislav Derezic covering 31 yards apiece to jump out to a 6-0 lead late in the first half. Tiffin managed three trips into the red zone but came up with just 6 points. Still, the Dragons held the lead and didn't allow Wayne State on the board until the 1:20 mark of the second quarter, when the Warriors scored on a 12 yard run to take the lead at the half 7-6. Overall Tiffin gained 409 yards to WSU's 320, including 291 through the air on a blistering 25 of 32 attempts. They also controlled the clock, holding the ball for 34:49 to the Warriors' 25:11. Pipkin had perhaps his best collegiate performance yet, connecting on 25 of 32 passes for 291 yards and 3 touchdowns with no interceptions. He added 40 yards rushing, while running back Chris Watkins had his best collegiate showing, rushing for a tough 74 yards on 12 carries (6.2 yards per rush).
