INTERNATIONAL PROFILE

Patrick Pham

By Christian Shane

How did you break into the fashion industry? And, what made you decide to become a designer? I

have

always

been

passionate

about fashion, but I officially started working in the design industry in 2003. I visited a few wedding dress shops and thought that it was quite boring. I then decided to change this by bringing the wedding world a new idea of bridal design. I opened my own bridal gown shop in 2012 in Luxembourg. Recently, I decided to make the most of my passion with the launch of my brand ‘Patrick Pham’ in 2015 with the creation of wedding, cocktail and gala dresses. I met wonderful people, who supported me, and with the work I have achieved since then, I can tell you that it is the best decision I have ever made. And, it’s just the beginning!

m

Can you tell us a bit about your personal

background?

Where

you grew up, something about your parents, etc. I was born in Vietnam and came to France with my parents and my two older brothers when I was eight years old in 1983. I also have a younger sister, but she was born when we were already in France. My mother was Eurasian, so it made things much easier. I did not speak a word of French, so I had to learn everything, and with a father who was working as a Vietnamese officer, I had no other choice than to bring good results home. I was very good at school. My mom is a Buddhist, so she taught me to respect others and help anyone in need. Together, they are a great balance, and they are the people I will always respect the most. You use an abundance of colour in many pieces. How do you get inspired? I love travelling and wherever I go, I try to get all the energy I can from what’s around, especially nature. I don’t especially like to use black. I love colours. So, with respect to the trends, I use them as much as I can. I truly believe that colours highlight women’s natural beauty. I love

designs

and lace for a romantic effect on the body of women. Are you influenced by any particular designer(s)? I am big fan of Valentino. Not only for his unique red, but also because the haute couture dresses he creates are always very feminine, and you can wear them. I admire these beautiful gowns that we see on the runways, but what a shame we cannot take them out of the dressing room!

What is your favourite fabric to work with? Lace and silk are my two favourite fabrics to work with. To me, they are the most glamorous, sexy, sophisticated material, and they give a ‘chic touch’ that a lot of women love. I only use very high-end material. What shall we look for from you next? Future plans? These last months, I have been travelling and met a lot of people from royalty, jet set and fashion world. They have all been very positive and supportive, and all I want now is to go further. On November 25th, I will do a Fashion Show in Vietnam, the 1st of December in a castle in Luxembourg and after this, I have collaborations planned with the Peace Palace in Netherlands, as well as the Moscow and Bahrain palaces.

BMW MOTORRAD VISION NEXT 100 https://youtu.be/oW0ShDRggtst

THE GREAT ESCAPE Glasses instead of a helmet, light clothing, full balance without a stand: just three of a great many aspects which could become standard in motorcycling and give that feeling of freedom a new dimension in an increasingly digitalised world. And the best thing about it: this vision vehicle is already here. Introducing the BMW Motorrad VISION NEXT 100. The futuristic two-wheeler glides silently through the hall. In the curve in front of the stage, the frame bulges out and the BMW logo

affixed on the size illuminates in blue and white. The rider, equipped with a black suit and stylish glasses, brings her vehicle to a stop and remains poised in that position without taking a foot off the frame. It’s like a scene from a sci-fi film. And although it does all happen in the motion picture capital Los Angeles, it is nevertheless absolutely real. The vision vehicle, which is celebrating its world premiere at the “Iconic Impulses. The BMW Group Future Experience” exhibition, catapults you into the 40s of the 21st century.
