art brut L'art brut est l'expression d'une mythologie individuelle, affranchie du régime et de l' économie de l'objet d'art. Ces oeuvres sans destinataire manifeste sont produites par des personnalités qui vivent dans l'altérité – qu'elle soit mentale ou sociale. Leurs productions nous renvoient tantôt à la métaphysique de l'art - c'est-à-dire à la pulsion créatrice comme tentative d' élucidation du mystère d' être au monde - tantôt au besoin de réparer ce monde, de le soigner, de le rendre habitable. christian berst Art Brut is the expression of an individual mythology liberated from the system and economy of the art object. Aníbal Brizuela vient de s’éteindre en Argentine, à l’âge de 84 ans, après plus d’un demi-siècle d’internement psychiatrique.

Encore peu connu sous nos latitudes, il est pourtant la figure majeure de l’art brut argentin et sa renommée a dépassé, là-bas, le cercle des seuls spécialistes de ce domaine.

On ne lui connaissait aucune famille et les circonstances l’ayant conduit à passer quarante années parmi plus de sept-cents autres patients à l’hôpital psychiatrique d’Oliveros demeurent obscures.

La genèse de sa création est tout autant immémoriale et ce n’est qu’à la faveur de sa reconnaissance tardive, et des ventes d’œuvres qui en ont découlé, qu’il passera la dernière décennie de sa vie dans une petite communauté thérapeutique plus accueillante.

Quelle était l’idiosyncrasie d’Aníbal ? Si la démarche relevait initialement du dazibao - puisqu’il cherchait avant tout à interpeler le passant en affichant ses dessins dans les couloirs de l’hôpital - les motifs géométriques subtilement décentrés, comme la typographie acérée, relevaient manifestement d’une grammaire formelle plus privée. Pour ne pas dire absconse. Car Brizuela cultivait l’ellipse, scandant des mots et des acronymes, souvent sans lien apparent,

tantôt menaçants, tantôt invocatoires. Tandis que les dessins surgis de sa petite iconothèque personnelle - armes, croix, cercueils, seringues, têtes – en soulignaient le propos.

Sans que l’on sache vraiment si ce foisonnement polysémique devait rendre compte du désordre du monde, ou si ces antagonismes qui l’ébranlent n’étaient pas davantage le reflet du trouble dont Aníbal cherchait à se libérer par la conjuration. À moins que ce ne fut une forme de résilience hautement poétique, mêlant la Vierge noire, convoquée ici ou là, au souvenir de l’expérience extraterrestre que l’artiste fit, plus jeune : « Un jour, je pêchais au bord de la rivière et j’ai vu une soucoupe volante. (…) J’ai regardé ma canne à pêche et lorsque j’ai relevé les yeux, elle n’était plus là. (…) Quand je ferme les yeux, le sanctuaire apparaît. Les chiens n’entrent pas.

Les lumières s’éteignent et les portes s’ouvrent. À l’intérieur, les formes. Elles bougent toutes seules. Elles sont connectées et elles me connectent. ».

Sur la feuille blanche du papier froid, de l’encre sèche de stylo bille. Rouge, noir, bleu et vert ; droites, triangles, arches et croix. Sur la feuille froide du papier blanc, des mots s’embrasent en plaies à vif.

Médicos, terrorista, jesucristo et FBI. Fermez les yeux. Entendez-vous ces cris stridents ? Evidemment.

Ils s’accumulent les uns les autres dans le silence d’une exécution au bûcher orchestrée par un innocent. Oui, un innocent condamné à son propre supplice, un condamné à l’innocence face au supplice de l’être. Anibal Brizuela est innocent. Il est cette feuille de papier blanche qu’il entaille fiévreusement pour combattre le monstre tentaculaire né en lui. Cet impitoyable colosse le dévore, se nourrit de sa substance. Il sait tout, il voit tout. C’est parce qu’il est partout qu’il est nulle part. Empli de vices et d’impuretés, il n’a qu’un dessein : propager le Mal. Maladie, mensonge, mort, complot...

Pourquoi existe-t-il ? Pourquoi fait-il cela ? Pour pervertir l’homme, le transformer en disciple de sa cause funeste, pour noircir sa blancheur, pour qu’il soit le Mal. Anibal Brizuela le sait : il est condamné pour toujours à lutter contre son démon. Impossible de l’ignorer, il faut l’affronter. Il aurait pu prendre une épée, un pistolet ou une arme destructrice, mais c’est avec son stylo qu’il pique et transperce.

Quelques éléments figuratifs gravitent comme des symboles. Croix de Jésus et croix gammées côtoient sur un même plan frontal des révolvers noirs, des cœurs allongés, des cercueils, des seringues et des visages sans expression. A ce vocabulaire plastique se greffe un vocabulaire de mots et d’acronymes aux lettres stylisées. « Médicos », « terrorista », « jesucristo » ou « FBI » sont dessinés dans une typographie composée de petites flammes ou d’épines schématisées, ayant pour effet d’orienter la réception et la narration du mot.

Une poésie enragée émane alors de cette langue du feu qui résonne comme un rap visuel à la Basquiat, où chaque mot est à la fois un récit et un signe qui rebondit d’une idée à l’autre au sein d’une totalité.

Certains dessins sont si textuels, qu’ils peuvent évoquer l’hypergraphie avec cette même intensité sonore et puissance esthétique que celle du lettrisme.

Mots enflammés et arches rouges. Porte fermée où rien ne bouge.

Que faut-il décoder ? Impossible de ne pas céder à la tentation de décrypter un message. Ces plans abscons et ces motsclés ne sont-ils pas des informations secrètes à déchiffrer ? Faut-il percer le mystère ? Faut-il vraiment tout rationaliser ? Non. L’œuvre d’Anibal Brizuela n’est pas plus à interpréter qu’une toile de Max

Ernst ou n’est pas moins à éclairer qu’un noir de Pierre Soulages. Comme l’art des étiquettes, y compris celle de la marginalisation, l’œuvre d’Anibal Brizuela est la manifestation d’être, d’exister dans le monde, sans aucune autre fin que d’être là et d’appartenir au monde. Dirige l’atelier d’art (Cultural Sector) à l’hôpital psychiatrique Dr. Abelardo Irigoyen Freyre d’Oliveros et est la curatrice en charge du fonds d’œuvres d’Anibal Brizuela.

J’ai découvert Aníbal Brizuela en tant qu’artiste à l’hôpital, bien qu’il ne soit jamais venu à l’atelier. Un jour que je me trouvais à la réception de l’hôpital, Bety, l’une des infirmières les plus extravagantes et sympathiques m’a littéralement sautée dessus. Et voilà que je me retrouve avec un gigantesque dossier de dessins qui m’a stupéfaite. “C’est de qui ça ?” - ”du “noir” Brizuela qui est là-bas” me dit Bety.

Les matins, il s’occupait toujours des voitures ou apportait des instruments aux infirmières pour qu’elles les stérilisent. Entretemps il faisait son travail, laissant des messages dans différents lieux de l’hôpital. Le travail pour lui consistait à écrire des messages qu’il offrait, une forme de communication en hiéroglyphes.

La source d’inspiration d’Aníbal était la science-fiction. Dans son œuvre, on retrouve les symboles de toutes les organisations conspirationnistes de la planète. Il y a dans ses dessins des éléments qui semblent vouloir avertir l’humanité d’une série de catastrophes qui pourraient survenir. À une époque, la symbologie d’Aníbal a semblé habiter la période de la guerre froide, mais elle a pu aussi devenir plus contemporaine, en mentionnant les attaques répressives, la contamination, l’intoxication par divers moyens, le

rayonnement atomique, l’usage de tous types d’armes, l’espionnage et le contre-espionnage. On pourrait dire qu’Aníbal est l’homme de la conspiration spatio-temporelle, jouant avec la terminologie psychiatrique.

Une partie de l’œuvre d’Aníbal peut également être rapprochée de l’Art brut de Jean Dubuffet. En effet, l’Art brut est particulièrement attentif à prendre en compte les créations de personnes extérieures au circuit, ou qui se retrouvent à produire de l’art sans s’en rendre compte, comme quand Aníbal dessinait et distribuait ses dessins dans les bureaux de l’hôpital. Un homme malade inconscient d’être un artiste ou un artiste qui ne se rendait pas compte qu’il était malade.

Contrairement aux autres patients qui participaient à l’atelier d’art, Aníbal travaillait seul mais il s’est mis à y apporter ses dessins ; il avait trouvé un espace où les conserver dans l’enceinte de l’hôpital.

C’est ainsi que j’ai commencé à les collectionner et à réunir un corpus d’œuvres que j’ai pu montrer à l’extérieur dans plusieurs expositions, et que j’ai présenté à d’autres artistes. Cette démarche a conféré une réelle reconnaissance et une valeur esthétique à son travail au sein de la communauté des artistes.

Lorsqu’Aníbal présentait ses dessins, il se tenait devant eux comme quelqu’un qui lit un oracle. Il commençait à parler, à expliquer tout le délire qu’il y avait développé, fait de messages, de pensées, de choses entendues, de ses lectures.

Tutrice de Brizuela. En tant que psychologue, elle faisait partie de l’équipe qui l’a soigné à l’hôpital psychiatrique Dr Abelardo Irigoyen Freyre de Oliveros.

L’œuvre d’Aníbal Brizuela est profondément expressive ; elle est habitée par des pensées et des émotions très intenses qui ne peuvent être transmises que par un homme qui a erré à travers le ciel et l’enfer, sur la Terre aussi.

Aníbal trouve le moyen de transmettre des messages avec les couleurs de ses stylos, toujours avec l’intention explicite qu’ils puissent circuler. Que quiconque en trouve un, ouvre les yeux et puisse déchiffrer l’énigme. L’énigme s’avère toujours être, par essence, un message de vie et de mort, mêlant ciel et enfer, lumière et ténèbres. Comme il l’a dit un jour : « Mes yeux ne saignent plus, maintenant vous pouvez voir... » Aníbal est un homme austère, impartial, avec un sens aigu de l’observation, protecteur des gens qui l’entourent, un amoureux des animaux et des enfants, qu’il traite avec le plus grand respect, ce surplus de respect qu’il adresse aux plus vulnérables. Parler avec lui est une de ces expériences que l’on n’oublie jamais, il nous surprend toujours avec une certaine assignation, il a cette sensibilité qui le rend capable de s’adresser directement à l’âme de l’autre, comme si l’ego de celui qui parle et de celui qui écoute pouvait à ce moment se diluer. Un moment magique, mystique.

Par certains de ses actes l’homme montre sa véritable grandeur.

Quelqu’un qui a réussi à convertir la douleur à laquelle sa vie a été soumise, sans possibilité d’appel, est un génie. Un génie qui a transformé la douleur en un acte créatif avec l’intention de la transmettre aux autres afin que chacun puisse trouver quelque chose à travers ces messages qui réaffecte un sens à cette expérience. Bien que les messages soient condensés et métonymiques, ils ont presque la structure d’un rêve.

Un même mot ou une même image tiré de différentes de ses oeuvres peut revêtir une multitude de significations différentes.

J’aime considérer les artistes comme des cas cliniques. Les histoires de l’art sont une longue succession de cas cliniques. Pour produire de l’art, il faut avoir vécu une expérience d’échec dans sa relation à l’amour ou à la nature.

Peut-être qu’avec la folie, ou un certain type de folie, quelque chose de semblable se produit. Un dysfonctionnement dans la capacité à appréhender le quotidien, à le confronter, à suivre un certain ordre biologique.

Aníbal Brizuela parle doucement, il presse la mine de ses stylos sur le papier avec l’intensité de celui qui voudrait graver son message en Braille dans sa mémoire. L’histoire qu’il raconte est intermittente. Ce stylo à bille convaincant utilise des gabarits.

Il y a une logique interne dans ses dessins qui me fait penser à un élan extatique. Le système est constructif, fictif et informatif, il tient une radio collée à son oreille.

Les voix douces des médecins, des couvercles et des boîtes ; tels sont les « outils » qu’il utilise pour dessiner. Un acte de création dans lequel l’auteur est le medium.

Il dit qu’il entend des voix qui dictent ce qu’il écrit.

Il s’égoutte, s’infiltrant dans le pollen de la mémoire. La mémoire est jaune, mais le jaune n’apparaît pas dans ses œuvres, car cette couleur ne fait pas partie de sa palette de stylos à bille. Il s’égoutte et s’arrache dans une syntaxe blessée, ce que le poème peut faire : c’est comme un rayon.

Il y a des chaînes de montagnes avec des sommets métalliques, un nombre infini de croix et de cœurs. Chaque page dessinée est un essai calme et attentif que l’auteur Aníbal Brizuela élabore pour découvrir sa généalogie. L’écouter parler de son travail est une sorte de performance, dans laquelle le dessin semble détenir le symbolisme d’un tarot personnel.

L’information que Brizuela sélectionne touche au plus profond de notre identité argentine. Des Malouines aux religieuses françaises Léonie Henriette Duquet et Alice Domon, du Nouveau Testament à la déesse andine Pachamama. L’information oscille entre le scientifique et le mystique, et inclut l’univers pharmacologique.

Il y a du vocabulaire policier aussi. Le tout forme un long roman en lettres capitales, avec des noms propres qui attirent l’attention et arrêtent l’histoire. Chaque dessin est un monument. On y trouve des références à l’histoire politique argentine. Il y a des chiffres. Il y a des injonctions qui pourraient être des appels à l’aide, mais sont des oraisons jaculatoires d’où émergent des volutes en forme de panache.

Il empile les mots, il est « écrivain d’une autre syntaxe », il laisse des signes. Cette C’est un roman au goutte-à-goutte. Ce histoire illustrée connaît tout le monde. roman de l’avenir parle de nous tous.

Il hallucine à peine, il croise des textes convertissant ce qu’il lit en paroles qu’il - Anibal, c’est quoi l’amour ? couche sur la page. Poème punk latino- L’amour est le cœur de l’esprit. américain, il passe de l’humour au drame, de la prosopopée à l’exclamation.

Brizuela est poète et dessinateur. Il dessine des lettres et des formes. La géométrie Les intestins parlent lentement. Ainsi produit un effet qui assagit la composition pense le maître du silence, tous les corps de la page. Et cela vous rassure, lecteur, et tous les dieux lui appartiennent, l’arcsurtout quand les formes des mots sont en-ciel et les religieuses. Il fait nuit. Aníbal Brizuela est un poète punk menant J’aime beaucoup quand il mélange toutes une vie disciplinée, une existence paisible, les couleurs. centrée autour de la nourriture et de ses habitudes. Poète des titres, la forme géométrique est à la fois pont et syntaxe. Ce sont des poèmes écrits avec la première typographie punk argentine : des lettres pleines de pointes sans tranchant, ou sont-elles de petites montagnes ? Des lettres pleines de « défauts ».

Formellement, il passe par plusieurs étapes : quand l’espace n’est empli que de formes géométriques, quand ce sont des formes et des mots, quand il remplit tellement l’espace que la lecture devient difficile, quand il utilise la palette de stylos à bille basique, quand il utilise la palette de stylos à bille de deuxième génération avec des magentas, bruns, oranges, cyans, violets. Il y a les images religieuses gigantesques, où le FBI côtoie Yogananda, les oraisons païennes, la dictature, la foi ou l’église.

Cet artiste libéré de l’Histoire de l’art alterne une typographie lisible avec celle qui fleurit sur les métaux, l’attirail PUNK. Lorsque les pointes, les défauts, sont plus grands que le corps de la lettre, on arrête

« J’écris toujours avec des stylos à bille. Je sais déchiffrer les formes, mais elles ont peur. Je me concentre sur une forme et me vient à l’esprit une embrasure de porte, une arche, un calice, un ornement en or. En faisant un effort mental, je commence à voir et à écrire. Quand j’écris, je ne ressens rien. Je me concentre. Quand mes stylos sont vides, je les jette au pied de l’arbre pour qu’ils protègent les animaux qui s’y nourrissent. » I always write with ball-point pens. I know how to decipher forms, but they are scared. I concentrate on some form and a porthole comes to my mind, a base nameplate, an ark, a goblet, a golden ornament.

In making a mental effort, I begin to see and I write.

When I write, I don’t feel anything. I concentrate.

Aníbal Brizuela recently died in Argentina, at the age of 84, after spending more than half a century at a psychiatric hospital. Still little known in this part of the world, he is nonetheless the major figure of the Argentine Art Brut scene and his fame has, over there, surpassed the circle of the few specialists in this area.

His body of work has thus been the object of numerous exhibits in prestigious contemporary art spaces, a full-length documentary and, more recently, a monograph.

He had no known family and the circumstances leading him to spend forty years among more than seven hundred other patients at the Oliveros psychiatric hospital remain obscure. The genesis of his creation is all the same immemorial and it is only thanks to the late recognition of his work and the sale of works that resulted from it that he would spend the last decade of his life in a small, more welcoming therapeutic community.

What was Aníbal’s particularity? If his method initially revealed an element of Dazibao—since above all, he was seeking to call out to the passerby by presenting his drawings in the hallways of the hospital— the subtly uncentered geometric patterns, like a sharp typography, manifestly revealed a more private formal grammar, if not outright

abstruse. For Brizuela cultivated the art of omission, emphasizing words and acronyms, often without any obvious link, at times threatening, at times invocative. Meanwhile the drawings that emerge from his small, personal library of icons—arms, crosses, coffins, syringes, heads—underscore the point. Without really revealing if this polysemous profusion is meant to convey the disorder of the world, or if these antagonisms that rattle him were rather the reflection of the disorder from which Aníbal sought to free himself through incantation. Unless it was only a form of highly poetic resilience. mixing the Black Virgin, called on here and there, to the memory of an otherworldly experience that the artist had when he was younger: “One day, I was fishing at the edge of the river and I saw a flying saucer. […]

I looked at my fishing rod and when I lifted my eyes, it was no longer there. […] When I closed my eyes, the sanctuary appears. The dogs don’t go in. The lights go out and the doors open. Inside, the forms.

On the white sheet of cold paper, dry ink from a ball-point pen. Red, black, blue and green; straight lines, triangles, arcs and crosses. On the cold sheet of white paper, words kindle with open wounds. Médicos, terrorista, jesucristo and FBI. Close your eyes. Do you hear the strident cries? Obviously. Here and there they add up in the silence of an execution at the stake, orchestrated by an innocent. Yes, an innocent condemned to his own torture, a man convicted of innocence facing the torture of being. Aníbal Brizuela is innocent. It is this sheet of white paper that he feverishly carves in order to defeat the tentacled monster born in him. This ruthless colossus devours him, feeds on his substance. He knows everything, he sees everything. It is because he is everywhere that he is nowhere. Filled with vices and impurities, he has but one objective: to spread Evil. It could be those banalized technological interconnections, that spying geo-localization, those biometric systems that exist, not to watch us, but to “protect” us from the invisible threat that prowls everywhere. It could be that legitimate defiance which leads to collective paranoia and that feeling of being watched in our most intimate moments. That reality is perhaps not real, but it is a facet of what human beings produce to cure themselves while simultaneously causing themselves harm with the cure.

In Satan’s sun, the tentacled monster plays in the shade. He hides behind the masks that Aníbal Brizuela detects: the doctor’s immaculate coat, the dog’s barking, the smell of the dulce de leche candy.

cross of Christ and swastikas stand alongside black revolvers, elongated hearts, coffins, syringes and expressionless faces, all on the same frontal plane. A language of words and acronyms with stylized letters is grafted onto this figurative language.

“Médicos,” “terrorista,” “jesucristo” or “FBI” are drawn in a typography composed of little flames or the outlines of thorns, with the effect of orienting the way the word is received and narrated.

An enraged poetry thus emanates from this language of fire that resonates like a visual rap in the style of Basquiat, where each word is both a story and a sign that bounces from one idea to the next at the center of the whole. Certain drawings are so textual that they can evoke hypergraphia with the same resounding intensity and aesthetic power as that of Lettrism.

Burning words and red arcs. Closed door where nothing moves.

What should we understand? Impossible not to give in to the temptation of deciphering a message. These abstruse blueprints and key words, don’t they constitute secret information that needs to be deciphered?

Should we pierce the mystery? Should we really rationalize everything? No. Aníbal Brizuela’s body of work does not need to be interpreted any more than a painting

by Max Ernst or is not in any more need of

clarification than one of Pierre Soulage’s black pieces. Like the art of labels, including the one of marginalization, Aníbal Brizuela’s body of work is the manifestation of being, of existing in the world, without any objective other than to be there and belong to the world. Demomaniacal refrain.

I discovered the artist Aníbal Brizuela in the Hospital, even though he never came to the workshop. One day, he came to the Hospital’s reception and at that moment, Bety, one of the most extravagant, sympathetic and frank nurses, was working, and I found myself with a huge folder of drawings which left me stunned. “Who is this from?”- I ask -“from the black man, Brizuela, who’s over there in front”- says Bety.

He always spent mornings taking care of cars or taking things from the nurses to be sterilized, and also—in the meantime—he would keep working on his art, leaving messages in different parts of the Hospital. For him, the work was the messages that he would give, a type of communication in a sort of hieroglyphs.

Aníbal’s source of inspiration is science fiction. In Aníbal’s work, the many signs there are about the conspiracy apparatuses of the planet can be seen. There are elements in his drawings that seem to want to warn humanity about a series of ills that could occur.

At one point, Aníbal’s symbology seems to inhabit the period of

the cold war, but it can also become more contemporary, mentioning repressive attacks, contamination, intoxication by various means, atomic radiation or radiation from any kind of arms, spying and counter-spying.

We could say Aníbal is the man of conspiracy located in time and space, playing with psychiatric terminology.

Unlike the other patients who took part in the art workshop, Aníbal worked on his own but he did begin to bring his drawings, finding a place to keep them in the Hospital. In that way, I began to gather it and to create a work looking beyond the Colony through various showings and presenting his work to artists.

Aníbal Brizuela’s body of work is profoundly expressive; it is inhabited by the very intense thoughts and emotions that can only be transmitted by a man who has wandered heaven and hell from Earth itself.

He finds a way of transmitting messages in the colors of his pens, always with the explicit intention that they might circulate. That everyone who finds it open his eyes and may decipher the enigma.

The enigma always ends up being, in essence, a message about life and death, blending heaven and hell, light and darkness. As he once said: “my eyes are no longer bleeding, now you can see”…

Aníbal is an austere man, equanimous, with a sharp sense of observation, protective of the people around him, a lover of animals and children, whom he treats with the utmost respect, that surplus of respect that he directs at the most vulnerable. Speaking with him is one of those experiences you never forget, he always surprises us with some assignation, he has great sensibility for speaking directly to the soul of another, as if the ego of the one speaking and the one listening could dissolve in that moment. On that point, he’s magical, mystical.

There are acts of man that effectively show his grandeur. Someone who has been able to convert pain that his life has been subjected 53

A genius that has transformed pain into a creative act with the intention of bringing it to others so that each person may find something through those messages that reassigns meaning to that experience. We could follow one word or one image through different moments of his body of work and find a multitude of meanings.

I like to think of artists like clinical cases.

Art Histories are a huge succession of clinical cases. To reach art, a certain flaw in relation to love, or in relation to nature has to have happened.

Maybe with insanity, or a certain type of insanity, something similar happens. It is the dysfunction of practical life and how to carry it out and how one should not respond to that biological order.

Aníbal Brizuela speaks softly, presses the ball-point pen on the paper so much, as if he was recording something in his memory for Braille.

The story that he tells is intermittent. That convincing ball-point pen makes use of templates. There is an internal logic that reminds me a little of ecstasy. The system is constructive, fictional and informative, he holds a radio to his ear. The soft voices that doctors use, lids and boxes; those are the patterns of his work. The success of creation where the author is a medium. He says he hears voices that dictate what he writes.

The information that Brizuela selects pierces us as Argentines. From the Malvinas to the French nuns Léonie Henriette Duquet and Alice Domon, from the New Testatment to Pachamama. The information oscillates between scientific and mystical, including the pharmacological world. There are police texts in the tone of a novel. Everything is a great novel in chapters, with proper numbers that get fixed and stop the story. His monuments. There is Argentine political history.

- Love is the heart of the mind.

Brizuela is a poet and drawer who designs letters and spaces. The geometry gives it an effect, calming the page. And it calms you, reader, especially when the wordforms are so numerous that you don’t know where to begin reading and you give up reading in order to hold onto the energy of the pages.

It drips, getting carried away in the pollen of memory. Memory is yellow, but yellow does not appear in his works, for it is not a color in the palette of ballpoint pens.1 It drips and gets carried away in a wounded syntax, what the poem can manage: it’s like a ray. There are mountain ranges with metallic peaks, an infinity of crosses and hearts. Each drawn page is a fixed and attentive essay that the author, Aníbal Brizuela, approaches in order to discover his genealogy. Listening to him discuss his work is an opportunity for performance, in which the drawing seems to have the concentration and symbolism of a perso-

nal tarot.

He stacks up words, is a “writer of another syntax,” leaving signs. This comic knows about everyone. Barely daydreaming, he crosses out texts, converting what he reads into speech that he brings to the page. A Latin American punk poem, he goes from humor to drama, personification, exclamation.

There are numbers. There are orders that could be those of an aid, but are aspirations to letters, from which plume-likeshapes emerge.

It’s a novel that trickles. This novel of the future speaks of all of us.

Intestines speak slowly. That is how the master of silence thinks, all bodies and gods belong to him, the rainbow, and the nuns. He is of the night. I jump from the bed, from the wall the scores wake me up, they seem to rise up and become specters, they can sing, are sung, become packages and hypnotize you, tic tac tic tac, the canon of work, the comic drips slowly.

Aníbal Brizuela is a punk poet with a disciplined life, a peaceful existence of food and habits. A poet of headlines, the geometric form is both bridge and syntax. These are poems with the first Argentine punk typography: letters full of points without edges, or are they little mountains? Letters full of “markings”.

Formally speaking, he goes through various stages: when the space is only geometric forms, when it’s forms and words, when he fills the space so much that rea59

ding becomes difficult, when he uses the basic palette of ball-point pens, when he uses the palette of second-generation pens with magentas, browns, oranges, cyans, violets. The gigantic cards are where the FBI is, next to Yogananda, pagan aspirations and those watching from the sides like TOE, the dictatorship, faith or the Church.

This artist, freed from Art History, alternates typography that can be read with one that blossoms with metals, PUNK paraphernalia. When the points, the markings, are bigger than the very body of the letter, you stop reading and give in to the compositional dance. Capturing voices that no longer live.

I very much like when he blends all the colors.
