Open the doors to the heart of our city.
“We are born and raised in this great region called Canterbury. Christ Church Cathedral is the spiritual and symbolic heart of our city and is an institution that shares a rich history with its people.
The Cathedral brings our community and people together for important moments. Moments that affect us all... weddings and funerals, the bells tolling to reminisce, or a dawn service to remember our fallen.
We are pleased to back this iconic project which breathes life and soul back into our amazing city centre, uniting us, resillient and strong.”
Kia Kaha.
“We support the reinstatement because the Cathedral is a unique part of the history and heritage of the city.
The Rose Window, the stonemasonry, the new organ all speak to humankind’s artistry across generations. Our Cathedral is seen as a phoenix in the global heritage community, rising with splendour from the rubble of past earthquakes.
The Cathedral is the physical symbol of the idealistic ambitions of the Founding Fathers of the Canterbury settlement, speaking to the ambitions and hopes of all generations.”
Ros & Philip Burdon
“We look forward to our congregating in this great reinstated Cathedral and to seeing it welcome visitors of all faiths and none to the centre of our city. It is a majestic and spiritual building whose architecture and heritage will be open for all worshippers and global visitors to experience.
It is wonderful that we are all unified on the pathway to its reinstatement.”
Bishop Peter Carrell & Teresa Kundycki-Carrell
“We are fully committed to seeing the Cathedral returned to its rightful place in Christchurch as the centrepiece of the Square and the iconic symbol of our city.
We see the Cathedral Reinstatement as a strong beacon towards full recovery for the city which has lost so much of its heritage fabric during the earthquake period. Prior to the earthquakes the Cathedral was Christchurch’s most visited building and an icon of the city sitting as the foundation of faith within the Town Square.
The Stewart Family has a long history with the Cathedral, and it is an honour for the two of us to be a part of the talented team of donors and volunteers leading this greatest civic project of our lifetime.”
