And this is what God has testified: He has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have God’s Son does not have life. I have written this to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know you have eternal life. I John 5:11-13

August 2012

WE are on a Journey In the summer time a lot of people take trips. They use their vacation days to travel – some by car, some by plane, some by train, some even by bike! One of the great themes of Scripture and teaching of the Christian faith is that we are going somewhere – we are on a journey. This is not just a vacation but a epic life-long journey from where we are to where God wants us to be. Last month we considered the great biblical accounts of the journey God brought his people on through the wilderness. Those accounts are recorded for our benefit in the book of Exodus. We have discovered that all of us have, are, or will, also travel through a "spiritual wilderness" – a season of difficulty, deprivation, desert, and danger. The wilderness is not a place of punishment. Rather, it is a place in which we do our most growing because it is the place where God often does his greatest work. Yet the wilderness is not our final destination. We are not confined to an endless

wandering in a life that is difficult. We are on a journey and God is leading us through the wilderness to an experience that biblically is described as "The Promised Land". Now sometimes Christians see the Promised Land as heaven – as the experience that one has beyond this life and after death. But I believe that followers of Christ enter a promised land long before they die. God is leading us not only as individuals but together as a church to His designated promised land for us. During the month of August, our Sunday messages will explore what our "Promised Land" might look like and how we might enter it is some way now – even today, not just after death. So when you return from your vacation make sure you are at CCC every Sunday to hear about this Journey we are on. You may be surprised to realize you have been in the promised land and didn't even know it.

But the rulers of this world have not understood it; if they had, they would not have crucified our glorious Lord. That is what the Scriptures mean when they say, “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has Imagined what God has prepared for those who love him.” But it was to us that God revealed these things by his Spirit. For his Spirit searches out everything and shows us God’s deep secrets. I Corinthians 2:8-10

CCC.College is the next step for those coming out of high school. Although high school days end, why should weekly group experience end too? The CCC.College experience is based on Proverbs 27:17 "As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another..." We pass the leadership role from person to person each week, with each person sharing in giving their own lesson. The lesson can be a structured lesson or simply a discussion of what has been weighing on someone’s mind. If you are coming out of high school, in college, or college age, come try us out: Thursday nights at 7:00pm in the Orange door.

Wow, it is hard to believe that it is August already! Summer is winding down and the kids will be heading back to school at the end of this month. As the old saying goes, “Time flies when you are having fun!” It has been a great summer that started with VBX. What an amazing week we had! We had 51 kids attend with an average of 34 kids each night. We exceeded our beanbag chair capacity of 30 every night! We had a blast as we learned about how The Word began, how The Word came to life, how to hide The Word in our hearts, and how The Word gives us hope. What an awesome week as we also welcomed several new families!

COP's was our big July event attended by kids! We went to the Orange County Food Bank and helped pack boxes of food. The next day we headed down to the beach and had a contest to see which team could collect the most trash off the beach. Later we had lunch and played in the water for awhile. We got back to church and rested a little bit For questions about CCC.College then did some painting and contact: cleaning projects around Raymond Castillo at: campus. Worship Ministry

Tyler Thompson

Worship ≠ Music I often think that we need a better understanding of what is meant by the word “worship.” In many churches, we often assume incorrectly that “worship” equals “music.” So, we use phrases like, “We are going to begin our worship” and “We will end our time of worship,” as though we can flip worship on and off like a light switch. The truth is that this view of worship is in direct conflict with what the Bible presents as true worship. Worship is first, and foremost, a way of life. The Bible says that God intends us to live a life of worship, and not just limit our worship to specific times on Sunday morning. Romans 12:1 says, “Therefore, I urge you brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship.” Here, we are told that our spiritual act of worship is to offer out bodies as living sacrifices to God. There is no mention of the piano or the guitar, no discussion of musical style or music at all. We find only the direction to ourselves as the sacrifice to God. This “Worship offer concept had its origins way back in Isaiah 1, which says: is first, Chapter 13 Stop bringing meaningless offerings! Your and incense is detestable to me. New Moons, and convocations—I cannot bear foremost, Sabbaths your evil assemblies. a way of 14 Your New Moon festivals and your appointed feasts my soul hates. They have life.” become a burden to me; I am weary of bearing them. 15 When you spread out your hands in prayer, I will hide my eyes from you; even if you offer many prayers, I will not listen. Your hands are full of blood; 16 wash and make yourselves clean. Take your evil deeds out of my sight! Stop doing wrong, 17 learn to do right! Seek justice, encourage the oppressed. Defend the cause of the fatherless, plead the case of the widow. 18 "Come now, let us reason together," says the LORD. "Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool. In other words, God is saying that He doesn’t want us to come to Him on certain times and days and play church! Our

Christ Community Church The place to “be”...

Believe, Belong, and Become

rituals are useless before the Righteous and Holy God. Instead, he leads us to the work of His Son. “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow.” The fact that Jesus Christ has once and for all provided atonement for all of our sins demands our worship through the sacrifice of our very lives! And when we gather together, as they did in the early church, let us take the admonition of Colossians 3:16, which says: 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God.

Upcoming Music Opportunities: August 11th @ 4:00pm—Community Outreach . . . This is a community outreach opportunity for CCC's band. We will be opening for a well-known Christian Punk Rock group at a City Event. Very fun!!! Details in next Sunday’s bulletin & website.

August 12th @ 6:00pm—“Night of Praise” . . . A church potluck with Crave Life Church will happen at 6:00 with “Night of Praise!” beginning at 7:00pm. Great time to invite your friends!

Birthday Blessings You entered this world with your parents love, You took your first steps with strength from above, As each year that's past, as you get older too, His love is still here and waiting for you. He never will leave and will always abide, Will give you His strength, and even take pride, In the things that you do to honor His name, Far be it from me to not do the same. Cause each breath that we take, Each blink of an eye, Is full of great hope to hold our head high, While trusting in Him for all that He'll do, Cause the words that He spoke, Are nothing but true. So with confidence in Him, Go forth through this year, He has promised His strength, And claimed nothing to fear. Yet please don't forget on your special day, All the thoughts and prayers, directed your way, And just one thing more before this ends, Happy Birthday to you, our dear, special friends!
