Women’s Ministry Brooke Melhorn

I was blessed this summer by going to a Women’s Conference where they told us that women who have friends in church enjoy the church experience more and stay connected. One female friendship that stands out in the Bible is in Ruth 1:14-2:23. Ruth, daughter-in-law to Naomi, after the death of her and Naomi’s husband, decides to remain by her side and make Naomi’s people of Bethlehem her own and their God, her God. In the ancient days, a woman could not get by without a husband or the help of a family relative of that husband. Here are two brave women standing together, helping one another as Ruth gleans in the fields at harvest time. Well my dear ladies, it is “Harvest Time” at Christ Community Church. Make a new friend by joining in the fun of the Harvest Festival and join us in a church-wide campaign called “Thrive” by participating in the small group component called “Journey Group Fellowship”. As Boaz, future hus-

About Sunday morning’s Study: Being God’s Man By Claiming Your Freedom You’ve already been set free by Christ. When are you going to start experiencing that freedom? The apostle Paul, a man made new by the gospel of Jesus Christ, presents one of the clearest images of the godly man in action. He’s committed to a life of faith, focused on the Spirit instead of the flesh, set free to love others. No longer focused on himself, he demonstrates his faith by serving others. You can be that kind of man by claiming

Being God’s Man by Claiming Your Freedom will stimulate personal reflection and honest dialogue with God and other men. The goal is that you will strive to be God’s man in every way – feeling His heart for others, and doing His will obediently and joyfully.

Worship Ministry

In the Season of CCC . . . . . . where God is our Worship Leader! Uncertainty was natural upon hearing of Tyler’s resignation. Should we continue to move forward with plans we, as a staff and Church Board, felt God had directed us to go? Were we basing continuing our movement forward on a part-time staff position or God’s direction? Wasn’t God big enough to rely upon through this season at CCC? When Kevin, our High School Pastor, preached in August, his message to us was timely, “Have a firm trust in God despite uncertainty.” Examples were offered as he queried, “Did Noah wait till it rained? Did Moses wait until the sea parted? Did Peter not walk on the water when Jesus said, “Come”? With these convicting examples, should CCC wait to begin the two-identical service schedule and Journey Group Fellowship until a replacement worship leader were found? Especially when God had already provided us many resources, both within our congregation and without. This season of our church is an exciting time. The Remedy One will be coming to lead us in worship and to direction God is leadhelp us kick off our “Thrive!” campaign on October 7th. ing us, and now the Great morning to invite your friends! opportunity to see Him work because we may feel “uncertain” increases our dependency on God and allows us to experience His greatest work . . . and isn’t this the BEST place to be? And what an amazing work he’s doing! As God’s direction, desire, and timing for CCC’s next worship leader is discerned, He continues to provide us who we need each Sunday to offer Him praise!

We are Grateful For:

Desired Prayers:

 God’s abiding presence and season to trust Him.  Peace during this time of transition.  Faith to continue moving forward in spite of uncertainty.  Worship leaders who lead us in worship each Sunday in songs of praise.  A wonderful praise team.

 God’s wisdom and direction.  Continued available worship leaders.  Peace in God’s timing.  That our church body would not shrink back but stay involved.  Growth as a church family.  Joy and strength for our Praise Team.  A continued heart to worship God.

are identical you may choose the one that best fits your family on any given Sunday. Even though we have two services, the new schedule actually promotes unity by having the same kind and style of service experienced by everyone. We are all having the same experience even if at different hours. The two service schedule also increases the choices offered to our community to worship at 9:00 or 10:30 AM. However, of all these benefits the primary one remains: making room for God's growing family. As the Sunday celebration crowd is distributed across two services, it opens up seats for those who are yet to come. We all have a part in making this new effort succeed. Let us continue to gather with joy and enthusiasm as we celebrate the grace and goodness of God. And let us always be looking for opportunities to invite those whom God is preparing to become a part of the CCC family. Here at CCC there is room for all!

shaken. I just read Loving God by Charles Colson. He includes the most amazing quote. Aristides is describing the early Christians to the Roman Emperor Hadrian: “They love one another. They never fail to help widows; they save orphans from those who would hurt them. If they have something they give freely to the man who has nothing; if they see a stranger, they take him home, and are happy, as though he were a real brother.” (p.219) I want to be an early Christian, not just a literacy specialist married to a Bible translator. It’s the difference between a vocation and a ministry. May God help me. Yohana We’re incredibly thankful that: David is experiencing less pain in his back. We just celebrated 39 blessed years of marriage! You are praying for us. The Hynums are in town and want to visit us here at CCC! They will be joining us on October 10th for Lifetree Café. Please plan to come that night for both Lifetree Café and a time of fellowship and dessert immediately following.

It’s not just for those who have Kaiser Permanente as their health care provider, it’s available to ALL of us! During the month of October on up to Thanksgiving, we’ll look at how God intends for his children to do much more than simply survive their earthly sojourn.

God intends for us to thrive! We can live lives that are fulfilling, fruitful and flourishing even when difficulties come. The Thrive message series will introduce the Biblical ideas of “Thriving” and in our Journey Groups we will explore together how we can Thrive and make a difference in this world for good and for God. These two experiences go together so make sure you not only come each Sunday to hear the message but are also involved in a Journey Group. It's a tandem experience. . .

Giving Children Hope serves all of the Buena Park schools with a program that provides food for kids who might otherwise not have sufficient food or adequate nutrition on the weekends. Food is collected at the local warehouse located on Commonwealth off Stanton Ave. Backpacks are then packed with nutritious food for 3-4 people and given to children in need on Friday. Once consumed over the weekend, the backpacks are returned empty on Monday. Homework is also included in each backpack and incentives awarded upon completion to teach the children better food choices for nutritious eating. Because the backpacks are provided to children in public schools, Bible tracts are not allowed to be included in the backpacks. However, notes of encouragement expressing that prayers are being said are acceptable. Through the month of October, CCC will be providing food items for the “We’ve Got Your Back” program. Items of need are listed on the left flyer and will be collected each Sunday. Notes of encouragement will also be collected and coloring pictures on them would be a nice touch. Another opportunity that we at CCC can here the words of Jesus say,
