Sidekick Books are publishing the UK’s first book of poetry comics, with support from Arts Council England, and want to publish new work! It will be edited by Tom Humberstone and Chrissy Williams. We’re interested in work from solo creators, as well as collaborative groups or partnerships, and will offer payment to successful contributors. We are not looking for illustrated poems; we are looking for submissions that follow the visual structure of comics, but which focus on poetry rather than narrative. The deadline is 12th June 2015. economy of line is paramount each panel and page must be carefully constructed consider how much will fit on the page choose whether to prioritise ideas or form comics are generally at their best when the words do not repeat the effects of the art and vice versa juxtaposition is an important tool the reading process is one of interpretation rather than perception the reader is inextricable from the art what happens off the page is as important as what happens on it all the right notes, not necessarily in the right order
