Molte famiglie, soprattutto nelle aree rurali, sono ancora legate alla tradizione e, se si visitano le loro case, si nota che gli ambienti destinati agli uomini sono divisi da quelli per le donne; le straniere, invece, sono spesso considerate alle stregua di uomini onorari. Nella capitale, comunque, e in altre località turistiche come Aqaba, sono molto diffuse le abitudini internazionali: nei bar e nei ristoranti degli hotel delle principali città si servono alcoolici – eccetto durante il Ramadan, quando i non-musulmani possono consumarli in privato – così come si acquistano nei negozi e nei supermercati. Immancabile, anche nei campi tendati del deserto, la tipica pipa ad acqua, narghilè o shisha, preferibilmente caricata con tabacco aromatizzato al gusto di mela.n

ono numerose e degne di visita le aree protette del Paese. Un itinerario che preveda tappe wild sorprende per la varietà di ambienti e paesaggi. Si comincia con la riserva di Ajloun, che in primavera si ricopre di iris nero – fiore nazionale giordano – e in stagione è ottimo sito di osservazione degli uccelli migratori. Azraq e Shaumari, rispettivamente paludi di antica e straordinaria ricchezza ed area faunistica per la riproduzione in cattività dell’orice arabo a rischio di estinzione, si trovano sulla strada del deserto orientale verso l’Iraq. Wadi al-Mujib, nella zona del Mar Morto, è una gola scenografica imperdibile per il canyoning. E poi Dana, biosfera Unesco dai panorami solenni lungo un dislivello di 1.200 metri. ordans are friendly and hospitable. Joining them to have a Turkish coffee in one of the many cafés of Amman or accepting the invitation of Bedouins to share a cup of tea in the Wadi Rum is a great chance to deep the culture of the Country. A lot of families, especially in the rural areas, are still tied to tradition and, if we visit their houses, we can notice that the rooms assigned to men are separated from those assigned to women. Foreigner women, instead, are considered in the same way of men. Anyway, in the capital and in other touristic resort like Aqaba, are well diffused international customs: alcoholic beverages are served in cafes and hotel restaurants of the most important cities – but not during Ramadan, when not Muslim people can drink alcoholic beverages in private –and they are sold in shops and supermarkets. The typical waterpipe, hooka or shisha, is ever-present, even in the desert tent camp and the tobacco smoked is preferably apple tasted.n

here are a lot of protect areas in the country which deserve a visit. An itinerary characterized by wild stops can surprise everybody because of the wide variety of environments and landscapes. You can start from the Ajloun forest reserve, that is covered by the Black Iris in spring – the national flower of Jordan – and that is a great birdwatching site of migratory birds when it is the right season. Azraq and Shaumari are on the road to the eastern desert, towards Iraq. Azraq is and ancient and wonderful marsh whereas Shaumari is a faunal area where the Arabian Oryx, which is threatened with extinction, can reproduce itself.
