‘Apartment Diversity’
Precinct 75 Marrickville apartment
Given the current population and limited renting resources in Sydney, the Apartment Diversity project aims to enhance the living standards of residents while promoting a healthy work-life balance. Through the Built to Rent model, the project explores various scale and layout options to provide a diverse range of choices for prospective residents. The project also seeks to create a serene and inviting environment in Precinct 75 to attract more individuals to reside in the area. Furthermore, the project plans to revitalize Precinct 75 by implementing sustainable and adaptive designs that promote energy efficiency and enhance the liveliness of the precinct. Overall, the Apartment Diversity project endeavors to improve the quality of life for residents while ensuring the long-term sustainability of the precinct.

‘Retrofitting Heritage’
Chippendale community centre
The Chippendale Community Centre aims to discover the possibility of the old building. Revoke the ‘new’ aspect of the old building and focus on an adaptive heritage design. Exploring sustainable materiality and environmental performance within the project itself and finding a way to integrate brick and timber facades to create a new symbolic building in Chippendale. Using unique architectural language to define the invisible threshold in the project. Moreover, creating a vibrant community using space for the members.
The brief encourages students to consider and resolve the architectural proposition through the exploration of social, environmental and spatial opportunity, materiality, detailing, assembly and precedent and the relationship between the “old” and the “new”. The use of physical model making will scaffold design development at 3 different scales through the 3-D representation of spatial relationships and assembly. The studio will engage with the following architectural themes: • Materiality and its relationship to existing urban character/heritage. • Materials and their “tectonic” qualities: the design implications of materials. • The relationship of structure, envelope, environment and assembly. • The interplay of contemporary and adaptive heritage design at context, building and material scales. • Sustainability and its design implications and the role of technology, innovation and environmental performance. • Exploration, representation and communication of tectonic ideas.

Newtown Multi-generational Houses
The design concept behind this proposal is creating a “community hub” for the local residence in Newtown. This community hub contains a cafe and three dwellings accommodating different household types. The cafe is sitting along the west edge of the site, which acts as the buffer zone between the public space (the Hollis Park) and the three dwellings. The operable facade of the cafe interior can enhance the interaction between the cafe customers and the people in the Hollis Park.
The arrangement of the three dwellings follows the “perimeter” pattern, which allows the maximum use of the site. Also, the centre area bounded by the dwellings can be transformed to an external communal space shared by the three households. This pattern achieves the shortest distance from each dwelling to the communal space.
Consideration of human situations and thermal comfort are of great importance in the design procedure. The large area of operable louvres can break down the solid boundary between the dwelling interior and communal space/private exterior space, encouraging more engagement between different activities. Three shafts are designed for both west and north dwellings as private exterior spaces as well as the courtyards to introduce sun light and breeze. These shafts also separate different functional spaces in the house, allowing different human activities taking place at the same time withouttoo much disturbance. The slanted roof system can also capture more sun light into the house. Different facade systems are designed to control the heat gain in summer times and maintain the privacy for intimate space. Two indoor gardens are designed to form the “margin space”, whilst serve as the buffer area between the external commual space and the living area.

Architectural Nisshin Competition
The ‘’PLAY’’ is a medium for communication within the hectic urban environment, it is a tool of connection across generation and identities. “PLAY” has no boundaries. We “PLAY” with the space and functions. Human activities define the function of space. Installation of movable elevators creates possibilities in multiple use of space in different timeslot. It is for anyone to seek their ‘’PLAY’’ in anytime. We “PLAY” with presentation. Forms become flexible, organic, and transparent. The swing, slides and hammock reminds the memory from childhood in a playground, with curved mirror ceiling beyond to create a sense of “PLAY”. Contrasting with the urban commercial site, “PLAY” makes the space colourful. Living upon the “PLAY”, we are living beyond borders.

PopUp Pavillion : Reunion
During the period of shutdown and prolonged confinement at home, it is an opportunity to consider taking activities outside. A popup pavilion can serve as a temporary yet aesthetically pleasing space for local community members and other visitors to gather and reconnect. The pavilion’s location at the entry point of Young St., with its unique and irregular entrance from Military Road, uses soft timber decking feelngs and adds an element of curiosity that will attract people to explore further.
