SMOKE-FREE WORKPLACE

1. INTRODUCTION

Castle Hill RSL Club Ltd (CHRG) aims to provide all team members with a healthy work environment. To minimise the health risks associated with smoking and exposure to passive smoking in the workplace, CHRG has adopted a policy to implement effective control measures to limit the exposure so far as it reasonably practicable This policy aims to:

• Ensure compliance with the Smoke-free Environment Act 2000, the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 and their regulations

• Appropriately manage and reduce the exposure and health risks associated with tobacco and vaping use by workers, members and visitors to CHRG venues.

For the purpose of this policy, smoking includes:

• Cigarettes & cigars.

• Vapes & e-cigarettes.

This Policy applies to employees, agents, and contractors (including temporary contractors) of CHRG.

2. SMOKE FREE WORKPLACE

• Smoking is strictly prohibited in all enclosed public spaces and within four metres of any building entrances, exits, windows, ventilation systems or surrounding footpaths

• Smoking is not permitted in any CHRG motor vehicles or hired vehicles

• Smoking is not permitted in any CHRG building at any time, including within patron Designated Outdoor Smoking Areas (DOSA),

• Workers must ensure that they smoke out of view of customers, are not causing smoke to drift back into any CHRG facilities and must ensure that waste is properly disposed of in a safe and tidy manner

• CHRG offers a Quit Smoking Initiative which is available to all workers

• Smoke breaks may only be taken during authorised break times as designated by your leader

3. DESIGNATED SMOKING AREAS

CHRG recognises the need to accommodate the needs of both smokers and non-smokers.

CHRG has designated the following area/s as smoking areas for team members:

• Castle Hill RSL and Bowling Club: The tables and chairs near the CHRSL loading dock

• Club Parramatta: The back dock area

• Lynwood: Under the wattle tree near the maintenance shed and behind the clubhouse

Note: Smoking is not permitted within Castle Hill Fitness and Aquatic Centre grounds.

Note: Team members must cover their uniform with a jacket or other attire when smoking.

4. DESIGNATED PATRON SMOKING AREAS

CHRG provides designated outdoor smoking areas for patrons to smoke within our hospitality venues, including outdoor gaming and seating areas that do not have food service.

5. MANAGING EXPOSURE

Employees working within certain areas of CHRG will be required, as part of their role, to provide service to customers within DOSA’s. CHRG is committed to reducing second-hand smoke exposure as far as is reasonably practicable through regularly reviewed risk assessments* and the implementation of adequate control measures. These may include, but are not limited to:

• Maintaining compliance of DOSAs with applicable legislation and regulations.

• Maximising ventilation in individual DOSAs to minimise exposure risks

• Regularly reviewing roster arrangements to minimise individual exposure.

• Regular consultation with workers regarding control measures

• Use of technology to reduce worker exposure.

• Education and training on health and safety risks in the workplace.

*Refer to CHRG’s Environmental Smoke Exposure Risk Assessment.

6. BREACH OF THIS POLICY

Breaches of this policy may result in counselling and or disciplinary action, up to and including dismissal. Agents and contractors (including subcontractors and temporary contractors) may have their contracts with CHRG terminated or not renewed.

7. REVIEW OF THIS POLICY

This policy will be reviewed every two years to ensure it remains consistent with all relevant legislative requirements, as well as the changing nature of the company or more frequently where legislative requirements are changed or amended.

8. POLICY COMMUNICATION AND EDUCATION

This policy will be stored on CHRG’s intranet site. It will be incorporated into induction/onboarding programs and CHRG will conduct education sessions on the application and operation of this policy as required and when any changes to the policy are implemented.
