NEXT AUCTION | TUESDAY 22 MARCH FINE ART, ANTIQUES, STAMPS, SPORTING EFFECTS, GARDEN STATUARY Spring has finally sprung, and we are all starting to spend more time outdoors. Our March sale includes a good selection of stone troughs, urns and staddle stones to create a focal point in any sized garden. A wrought iron circular tree seat will provide a shady place to sit and read on summer evenings, Lot 500 (estimate £350-450); two classical Campana shaped urns come ready planted with box plants, Lot 525 (estimate £500-700) and a pair of monumental terracotta vases will create a spectacularly dramatic entrance way, Lot 509 (estimate £350-450). Coming inside, our sale offers an eye-catching array of paintings, furniture, ceramics and other antiques, with a special section of Sporting Art & Effects. Several studies of racehorses include ‘Rome’, winner of Lady Dudley’s Cup, painted by Charles E Gatehouse (1866-1952), Lot 98 (estimate £300-500). Among many antiquarian books featuring in the sale, the racing theme continues. A volume entitled Genius Genuine by Samuel Chifney of Newmarket was published in 1804 and the jockey author recounts famous horseracing exploits of the time, Lot 89 (estimate £80-120). A charming sculpture in bronze depicting a bloodhound following the scent was created by Sally Arnup (1930-2015) as Lot 683 an edition of just 10, Lot 111 (estimate £800£1,200). A group of earlier bronze sculptures by Ferdinand Barbedienne (1810-1892) includes an elegant Turkish Stallion, Lot 683 (estimate £150£200.
