Six Painters Amanda Constantinidi Edward Fairbairn Julie Fleming Fleming--Wiliams Victoria Hamilton Fiona Pitt Kate Ward

Amanda Constantinidi Amanda works in oils, using them thickly, giving her work texture and a freedom to move the paint around the canvas for sometime. She paints on site and in her studio outside Bath using additional information from sketches and photographs. The main focus of Amanda’s work is landscape, she enjoys the change that weather brings over land, through light, shade and colour. In most cases she uses a previously thickly painted canvas that provides an uneven surface quite unrelated to the current piece.

Edward Fairbairn Edward trained at Brighton and Farnham Colleges of Art and Goldsmiths College, London University. He has worked as a self employed artist and taught art for 26 years. “Most of my paintings and drawings derive from things seen. My intention, which doesn’t always go to plan, is to catch their immediacy and freshness in fairly quick studies, or, by making longer explorations, to bring out more permanent pictorial qualities. With both methods and everything in-between, I pray to be briefly blessed with rigour and imagination for an outcome other than a slavish copy!"

Julie Fleming-Williams Julie comes from a family of painters and attended Farnham School of Art in the mid sixties, providing the spring-board for her artistic future, Following further studies at Hammersmith School of Art, Julie worked for the restorer Maurice Keevil, cleaning and restoring murals in freezing churches in Norfolk and Suffolk, as well as spending the winters in a workshop in Covent Garden learning how to both oil and water gild under the auspices of the framer Sigi Krauss. Fast forward: Julie has now been a painter for more than 25 years and much of her work features light and shadow, often depicting old pieces of silver where the reflection ripples and shimmers; the more dings and dents, the better! Marmite (love it or hate it) often features in her breakfast paintings and her other passion is painting flowers picked straight from her garden.

Victoria Hamilton Victoria has been painting all her life, she trained at Cheltenham and Winchester Colleges of Art. Her work includes Textile designs, ceramics, and book illustration. She has exhibited her paintings widely in the U.K., Europe and The Middle East. "When not working to commission, my paintings, being quite personal and with the passage of time, although not exactly a visual diary, are beginning to trace the patterns and shapes of my life. I am currently interested in the sense of place and the human form within it"

About us Longfield supports adults with life-limiting illness from diagnosis onwards, helping them to understand their illness, to cope better with its impact on their lives, and to live well. We support their family and carers too and provide a Hospice at Home service, enabling people in the last three months of life to stay at home, if that is their choice. Our services also include help for families to deal effectively with their grief, and education for other professionals who are looking after people at the end of life. We sum up the benefits of what we offer as ‘Living well ; Dying well ; Caring well’. All of Longfield’s services are free and most are provided at our beautiful base in Minchinhampton. Some, including Art for Health, Fatigue & Breathlessness and Bereavement Groups, are increasingly being offered at community venues, closer to where people live. More than 80% of the charity’s income comes from the general public, through our sixteen shops, our weekly lottery, gifts in wills and a host of fundraising events and activities. The charity employs about 130 people but is also highly dependent on volunteers. About 500 people volunteer for us each year, doing everything from cooking to driving and from gardening to helping out at our events. We are hugely grateful to every one of them.
