To get started, thank you for taking the time and initiative to scan through the catalog, and show interest in the offering and ultimately our program as a whole. This operation and species are something we have a very deep passion for and we can only hope that’s apparent as you flip through the catalog or come to the farm to see them in person.

Since “The Source” in 2021 I have tried to get my point across that our attempt isn’t to just have another bred sale but an event that features some of our very best and most proven females. We have been incredibly blessed and fortunate to have two very successful auctions and will forever be thankful to all the bidders and buyers who have made that possible. Much like last year, I knew it would be difficult to assemble a similar line-up quality-wise as our inaugural “The Source” sale, but we once again were committed to organizing a set that could spark the attention of any and all swine breeders across the country. On the night of the sale, we will recognize many young showmen who have had success with a Sloan hog in 2023 and several of these sows are directly responsible for that.

As stated in previous years, these females are in individual pens, on shavings, and living the high life during sale time. But rest assured, they’ve been tested in the toughest environments, whether it be in a gestation stall, farrowing crate, or a large group setting on dirt. With that said, we have total confidence in their ability to carry on these traits to their new owners.

It’s been rewarding to watch the females from the past auctions go on to work for other programs across the country, regardless of the size and scope of those breeders. Without our customers continued support none of this would be possible, and we want to take the time to recognize that. Furthermore, I would like to thank my parents, Alicia, and the entire crew at the farm who make this program move in a progressive direction each and every day.

Without y’all, it wouldn’t all be possible.

We encourage you to be critical of the offering, ask questions, and more importantly, come to the farm to inspect them for yourself. We don’t think you’ll be the least bit disappointed. They are as good as we have offered from a visual perspective and come with resumes, to not only have a return on investment, but build around in the near future.

We welcome everyone to the farm on Thursday and Friday to preview the offering and talk livestock with family and friends. The auction will once again take place at The Pearl, a venue like no other. It’s pretty obvious the industry is booming and it’s certainly an exciting time to be a part of it. LOT 1

We put a lot of pressure on ourselves each year to dig deep into the heart of the herd and find that one sow that can be labeled as Lot 1 for this event. Truthfully, I think it’s necessary for the success of any auction, and it’s not something we take lightly. Orie has been an anchor for this program and has set the standard around the farm on what it takes to be considered the best. Over the last few seasons, she’s been bred to a wide variety of boars and always seems to deliver with ease. I would encourage you to view the supportive photos and study her resume; she’s made some of our very best the last few seasons. Her most recent litter came this summer and was highlighted by our $25,000 lead-off at Kings Of The Hill, maybe my favorite pig we campaigned all fall. We kept all six littermate gilts, knowing our plan for Orie.

2020X has a stout mug and a loose skeleton that should strike you as a generator. After having several litters of Glory Days, we have as much confidence in him as ever.

This belted female has been a reliable source for not only cash flow, but our repeat customers have gravitated toward feeding her offspring, and fortunately, they have found the backdrop. 2020X was shown successfully by Laney Gaston a few summers ago and was a Division Champion at the MO State Fair. Her littermate brother Boss was one of our all-time favorites that summer and captured several banners, but unfortunately, we lost him before state fair time. 2020X’s last few litters may have been her best and yielded a division reserve at the MO State Fair B R E D S OW and most recently, the Reserve Heavyweight Barrow at the 2023 American Royal just a few weeks ago. Lot 2 certainly isn’t the fluffiest sow in the offering and is a ways off from her due date, but rest assured; she’s been as productive as they get here at the farm. I can only imagine this Glory Days Litter is going to have the extra hair, density, and bendy skeleton it’s going to take to win in 2024.

If every sow on the farm generated like this King Size sow, we wouldn’t need nearly as many as we do. 1957X has generated over $300,000 in offspring during her career here at Team Sloan. As a bonus, they have won some banners along the way, and the daughters are becoming some of our very best. I would encourage you to study the supportive pictures and see what she’s raised. When it’s all said and done, I’m not sure her daughters won’t be her most valuable assets.

Recently, two of them yielded good summer litters that were highlighted by a $45,000 male pig sold to Laird, and a $25,000 male pig sold to Lackey, both at Perfect Timing just a few weeks ago. This sow has paid many bills and helped build some new barns. She owes us nothing, and now someone else has a chance to see what she can do for them.

It’s never easy to offer the kind like Lot 5, but it seems necessary to gain the attention of the top tier of bred female buyers. Jazzy was a fun one to watch in the show ring ending her career as the Champion 4-H Crossbred Gilt at the 2020 Missouri State Fair. Her dam originated from Ottenwalter’s and sold in last year’s sale as Lot 13 for $15,000. 2021X has been a cash cow, her most recognizable litter came in the summer of 2022 and yielded over $80,000. That litter included the $45,000 Make Some Noise at Premium Blend. Like many of these sows in the offering, we have hoarded the daughters, and it’s fortunately set us up to now offer them to the public!

2157S was the Reserve Spot Gilt at the 2022 Breeders’ Cup. She comes from an awesome litter that included the Champion Spot Gilt at San Antonio and Houston.

Polka Dot is the mother of Lot 6, and one we could talk about for days. She’s not only generated several champions on a state and national level, but is the mother of Big Stack at Lairds, who’s leaving his mark on the breed as well. Last spring, we sold a gilt out of this particular sow for $10,000. She’s bred to have one of the first litters out of Button Up, the boar we bought in on this summer with Upperhand Genetics.

Her offspring have been popular, easy to sell, and won shows on many levels. Her daughters are easily some of our very best. 2226C is not only a fun one to evaluate, but she comes right from the heart of our Chester program, which has been loaded with success over the last few years.

Here’s a young sow whose littermate brother was Champion Chester at NAILE last fall for the Lancaster family. Renee Conklin successfully showed her mother in the summer of 2021; she was in the top five in her breed at The Recovery in Des Moines and Champion Chester at the MO State Fair. Furthermore, the grandmother of Lot 8 is the famous Jack In The Box sow that has been as dominant and influential as any sow in the breed. As a bonus, she’s bred to one of the best boars in the country.

2107S was successfully shown by Brant Rice in Pennsylvania a few seasons ago and won her fair share of banners. This sows mom and aunt were purchased

by Platt in previous bred sales, and have generated well for them. These litters included the Champion Spot Barrow and 5th Overall at the 2020 IN State Fair.

For those of you who have followed our spot program the grandmother of this sow would be the Two Stroke female that was Grand at the Indiana State Fair.

In the past, this particular female has clicked the best on a harder built more exotic-looking boar.

With that said, we like Good Company a great deal here.

1950X has stood the test of time here at the farm and it appears her daughters are going to carry the torch for us in the future. These King Size sows, and realistically any sows that have Dirty Secret in their pedigree more than once just have something a little extra special about them. Lot 10’s pigs have sold well over the last couple of seasons, but more importantly, they have fed for our customers, which seems to be a rare find in today’s industry. She’s visually stout and rugged, with a flexible running gear and a rib cage that’s awfully hard to ignore.

She appears to be carrying a large litter sired by arguably the best the breed has seen in years. home run opportunity!

The spot breed is one we have focused on over the years, and have been fortunate to have some success along the way. The sow line behind 2008S would be a big part of why that’s been possible. Her mom, also known as Van Wilder’s mom, has made her impact not only on our program but many others across the country. This sow line traces back to the High Life sow, we had to have her when we purchased all of the Rash sows several years ago. That particular female won banners at both Expo and Springfield. We sold a couple of mates to Lot 11 at Sweethearts a few seasons ago that sold for $10k and $5k. 2008S is the mother of Hamilton’s spot gilt that was 4th Overall at Springfield in 2022, and as I mentioned is backed by an incredible sow line.

Lot 16 is short-backed and as powerful as you could ask for without sacrificing squareness. Her being mated to “Trick Daddy” could generate some easy-to-sell baby pigs and, ultimately a quick return on investment.

This belted sow originated from Flatland Showpigs in Colorado, and has done a solid job during her time here in Missouri. Her pedigree is stacked with proven boars and females, including 225-6, the Verbatim x Roxy sow that Flatland and Heimer own together. More importantly, she’s backed by a Dirty Secret Sow, and we all know how influential those have been for many breeders across the country. 2081X farrowed a Glory Days Litter this summer, and one of those male pigs appears to have an incredibly bright future.

The blue Don’t Shoot sow will surely be on everyone’s shortlist. Phenotypically, she’s broad, wide, and powerful, with a beautiful look, and a proportional build.

She’s always been blessed with extra stoutness, and fortunately, generates that into her offspring. Typically, 2017X is known for raising large litters that are deep and easy to sell. Her litter sired by The Reckoning 95-1 this spring was precisely that, and fed awesome for their owners. Several of them went on to win at some level of competition, but the most recognizable was Renee Conklin’s Grand Champion Barrow at the 2023 Missouri State Fair.

I absolutely love Lot 18 visually, and what she brings forth from a pedigree perspective is even better. She stems from an excellent litter that was highlighted

by Play To Win, our $20,000 Perfect Timing 2022 entry that Smythe, Halphen, and Ryan purchased. That particular boar has done a great job in his first crop, and I know has bred many sows since. Luckily, there were four gilts in the litter, and we didn’t hesitate to keep them all. The mother of 2267X is the Never Before x Dilly Dilly Sow who’s been a big-time generator, and is responsible for the Grand Overall Barrow at the 2022 MN Youth Expo that was shown by the Kramer family.

The Glory Days pigs have been nothing short of impressive, and he works his best on females like this!

The belted female is a daughter of the Cantrell sow that was a highlight in last year’s sale, she sold to Ally Genetics in Colorado for $20,000. We originally purchased the Cantrell sow at OYE in 2019, where I thought she was a must-have.

She did an incredible job here raising daughters, winners and is now carrying on her duties in Colorado. This gilt came from a very solid litter, including a barrow that sold online for $5,000 last fall. I know it’s early in the game on these No Stranger daughters, but I think that’s where the real value will be in him.

She comes from an incredibly deep litter that included the Reserve Chester Gilt at San Antonio, the 4th Overall Gilt at Breeders’ Cup, and the 6th Overall Barrow at Breeders’ Cup. What makes this lot even more unique, is her mom is the famous Jack In The Box sow, who generated winners, herd boars, and was a sale highlight in The Source 2022. Lot 21 offers a neat and up-to-date pedigree that should attract the attention of the most critical of buyers. Her mother was an incredible baby pig that was leased to Texas, and ended up Grand at the Killeen County Fair. Her last litter generated a barrow that was shown here in Missouri that saw the backdrop several times. Also, the Reserve Grand Barrow at the Wisconsin State Fair Open Show. 2268X is wide built with incredible proportions and a crazy look ahead of her blade. If you have seen Then and Now or his picture, this litter could be lights out and in high demand!

This Tricked Out female comes from a good litter highlighted in our farm sale last fall. One of those barrows went on to win his heavyweight class at San Antonio in February. The mother of this female was shown by the Mabry Family at the American Royal a few years ago, and ended up second in her class. Again, the sow line here has been good. Lot 22’s mother is a littermate to Lot 23’s grandmother.

The Tricked Out pigs have won what seems like every show in the country, and it appears the daughters will be big-time assets to many operations. The best part is she’s mated to the Hofschulte boar at Heimer’s Then and Now that’s been shut down to the public.

They’ve been known to not only generate dollars, but barrows that feed, and daughters that do their jobs. Lot 23 comes from a good litter that included a class-winning barrow at Houston in March for the Mabry family. Additionally, this gilt’s mother raised the Grand Barrow at the Nebraska State Fair in 2022 for the Hannan Family.
