Meet The Residence team

Mary-Sue Buck Administrator and Director of Nursing, Memory Care Community Mary-Sue is a Florida native, born and raised in Miami before relocating to central Florida. She has a heart for compassion and service especially for the elder population.

Her parents were always in service roles in the church and as a youth she began volunteering in the “Forever Young� ministry. She knew from a very young age that she wanted to follow in her grandmother’s footsteps as a nurse. Her nursing career began in 1989 in Ocala, where she worked in a hospital for several years and became a Diabetic Educator in home health. Mary-Sue then moved into skilled nursing facilities where she worked as an Assessment Coordinator, Director of Nursing and as a Regional Nurse Consultant. Throughout her career she has worked with dementia patients and always found it to be very rewarding. In 2012, her father was diagnosed with dementia and she and her husband relocated to help care for him. A few years into caring for him she determined that this would be her career path for the rest of her career.

Dawn Ruszat Life Enrichment Coordinator, Memory Care Community Dawn Ruszat was born in Chicago, Illinois. She has been in healthcare since 1999. In 2010, she began working in internal medicine as a medical assistant and was drawn to serve the elderly community. Dawn joined an assisted-living community as administrative assistant to the director and found herself wanting to do more, so she became an aide.

In 2019, Dawn became a life enrichment coordinator at Covenant Care and found her true calling. Dawn quickly realized that as she was making an impact on the precious lives of the residents, they were making an even greater impact on her.

Michael Gordy Executive Chef, Memory Care Community After graduating with high honors from prestigious Johnson and Wales University, Michael worked with a catering company on the sets of several movie productions before being hired as a personal chef to Robert Redford. An entertainer and classical pianist himself, he was the first executive chef at the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville, where he was recognized as one of the top chefs in Tennessee. Michael is well-versed in both gourmet and home-style cooking, and most recently served as chef at a retirement facility for nine years. Thanks to Chef Gordy, our guests enjoy nourishing gourmet meals made with the freshest ingredients available to satisfy both dietary needs and individual preferences.

Activities and dining at The Residence

At The Residence, we pay extra attention to the interactive activities we provide our residents each day. Our activities calendar is crafted by The Residence’s Life Enrichment Coordinator who works with specially trained volunteers to provide our residents with a variety of seasonal events each month.

In-house Executive Chef Michael Gordy creates nourishing gourmet meals each day. Chef Gordy avoids preservatives, fried foods and gluten, and creates meals using the freshest ingredients, including herbs grown from our on-site garden. Menus are thoughtfully crafted with ingredients that offer health benefits such as turmeric, walnuts, and blueberries. Our activities calendar and meal menus are updated seasonally, but you can find a sampling of what our residents experience below.

Respite Care at The Residence

The Residence offers respite care to give primary caregivers a break for a day, week or longer in a secure and supportive community. While in The Residence, your loved one will receive the same care and amenities as our full-time residents.

Our Respite Services include • Three delicious and healthy prepared meals with fresh snacks • Daily medication management with 24-hour nursing • Daily activities that benefit the mind and spirit • Housekeeping and laundry service • Licensed Extended Congregate Care including nursing services and assessments, total help with bathing, dressing, grooming and toileting, and dietary management

When to use Respite Care • When a family caregiver becomes ill • For times when there is required family travel • When a caregiver feels stressed • During a time of emergency or disaster

Fee Structure The Residence is unique in its all-inclusive fee structure, providing all the services and amenities needed by our residents to meet their progressing care needs.
