Fire Safety

WHILE SETTLING INTO YOUR ROOM

•Take note of the nearest emergency exit, such as a staircase that leads outside.

• Count the number of doors between your room and the nearest emergency exit. This will help you to find the exit even in the dark.

• Notice where the fire extinguishers are located on your floor.

IF YOU DISCOVER A FIRE OR SMELL SMOKE

• Alert the front desk immediately by dialling 3.

• If you smell smoke from your suite, place your hand on the inside of your door to see if the door feels warm or hot.

• If the door feels warm or hot, do not exit your room. Stay calm and cover the bottom of your door with wet towels to prevent smoke from getting in. All doors are fire-retardant for 60 minutes.

• If the door does not feel warm or hot and the hallway is smoke-free, please take your room key when you choose to leave. You may need it to return to your room if you can’t reach the nearest emergency exit.

• If the fire is small and limited to a specific area, use the nearest fire extinguisher.

• If it is not possible to extinguish the fire, please close the door of the room with the fire and make your way to the nearest emergency exit.

IF YOU CANNOT LEAVE THE ROOM

•Alert the front desk immediately by dialling 3.

•Block ventilation grills and gaps under doors with wet towels.

•Move all inflammable materials away from the window(s).

•Stand near the window so that you can be seen from the outside and try to attract attention.

•Stay calm and wait for instructions from the emergency services.

•If the room is smoke-filled, crouch or lie on the floor to see and breathe better.
