Getting Starting: Dog House 1

Exterior Elevations: Front, R. side, Rear and L. Side

Doghouse 1 : Reflections  Getting to know SketchUp is hard, there was a lot of tools that needs to remember, not only that but getting down the ideas of using the software to make something was even harder. Doghouse was the first assignment we did in class, the house took us approximately the whole 3 hour class period.

 The main purpose of this assignment is for us to be more comfortable using the tools in SketchUp, and learning how to use them. In class, Jerry(my teacher) talked about some of the interesting concepts and principles that we can apply in to our model.

 Tools used : select, rectangle, measuring box, push or pull, arc, move, copy, scale, tape measure, protractor, orbit, pan, and zoom

 Inference tools are important to control placement of objects and relate them to others.  The 3D Warehouse is where I got the dog, and resized a little so it fit the house.  The image was save as an .png file and exported to my computer. Knowing what I need helped me get the right size and picture that I need.

 Trouble thing I had was getting the stairs all the way around. Knowing that one of my line was not straight, I later add on the the missing part of my stairs to finish the job.

Getting Started Doric Temple

Doric Temple

Veiws: Front, Back, L side, R side.

Doric Temple : Reflections 

The Doric Temple took a long time to create. It was not only time consuming but also took a lot of thinking. Making this model took a lot energy, because the software may listen to you, an sometimes it has a mind of its own.

This model has a lot of ancient architecture idea in it as well, we took the concept from a 5th Century B.C Doric Temple that help us built ours.

The temple is made with 48 stone columns, that is 12ft apart holding the top beams will eventually hold the roof.

I face a lot of challenge making this model, the getting the right measurement into the right sides, putting the circle right in the middle, making sure that all columns can hold the stone up.

The purpose of this assignment is for us to be comfortable using SketchUp, and be able to make more challenging things, also learning how to use more tools.

Tools used : select, rectangle, measuring box, push or pull, arc, move, copy, scale, tape measure, protractor, orbit, pan, follow me, and zoom

Doric Temple

Front, Back, L/R side.

Doric Temple  Working on Triglyph took us the whole class to finish it. Looking at it might be a simple little thing, but getting the detail and the right measurement took a lot of time.

 The purpose of us continue working on it today in class is so we can dig deeper in to SketchUp, and use the tool to it’s extent.

 Triglyph is one hard block, we gone through so much troubles and questions in class to make this. I never have been so frustrated in SketchUp as before, understanding why something is not doing what we expect it to be, we were introduce to a new tool, hide. Hiding a few lines in the model help it to look much better.

 One thing I notice in SketchUp is that ( might be too late now) the first thing you put in your model is very important. If you get the first measurement wrong, your whole model can be wrong because of the first one.

 Tools use: Pencil, Arc, Push/ Pull, Measurement Box, Measuring Tape, and Hide

Redo of Doric Temple

Redo of Doric Temple

Malevich

Malevich  In this model we get to learn new ways to use SketchUp, and new techniques we can apply to this model. This project, we import an 2D image in to our SketchUp and build using the shape that is shown in the picture.

 With the 2D image, we made it 8.5ft x 11ft and scale it 6 times, after we pick a shape and outline it and build to the way we want it to be.

 Working this model was a little difficult, looking at it though it was easy, but I hit the wall when I that it don’t have a face when I needed one, due to this I redone a couple of times and finally got my face, and fix everything up.

 In this model I developed many ideas for it, and very it can be place, how an giant T.V screen can go on the side plane.

 Tools used : select, rectangle, measuring box, push or pull, arc, move, scale, tape measure, orbit, pan, and zoom

Sandbox Dream~~  In week 6 and 7 of our course we were introduce with a new Techniques Sandbox. Sandbox is use to make hills, and dips in a flat surface. In class we practice using Sandbox to make hills and dips and apply it in our model for a whole new look.

 Learning Sandbox can be fun and frustrating at the same time. I some trouble doing the stamps in class, and later fix the problem with a little help, but the fun part is having to know how use Sandbox and fit it in to Landscape. This way we can be more comfortable using Sandbox, and maybe be more professional at it.

 Putting Landscape in to our model can make it look more realistic, and this assignment help us to use more tools in our model in the future. I think it turn out pretty good on this model.

 Tools used : Sandbox, select, rectangle, measuring box, push or pull, circle, move, scale, tape measure, orbit, pan, and zoom

 The 3D Warehouse is really cool, that’s where I got all my people.

Paper Plane Air Force

Paper Plane Air Force • Today’s Lesson is working on folding paper planes on SketchUp, this lesson help us learn that they are folding technique that we can use to apply to our model. • Folding paper plane seems easy, maybe there is only like 5 or 6 step, but the process of it is much harder then it looks. Having the right degree, and using the scale tool making sure you are having the right sides, it’s much harder. • Defiantly, practice makes perfect. When I was doing this in class I had a hard time keeping up, because there were so many steps and things to remember. But at the end, I got it all handy dandy up! • Tools used : select, rectangle, measuring box, push or pull, arc, move, scale, tape measure, orbit, pan, and zoom

My House Landscape 

After getting through the fun stuff, we now started working on residential building. Our home is the most recognize building we see so this must be easier.

Making the model was fun, but going around the house with a measuring tape was not. When working on this model I feel like I understand more about the building not just my house. Not only that but also how much stuff we have around the house.

While I was making this model, I feel like I’m still learning, even it’s basic things. I found that if I push it back on the face, the face can go away. We might learned this in the Dog House Project, but I’ve never got it right. Also many things got much handier than before, without thinking much on which tool I need to use, I focus more on the look, and measurements, which to me I feel that this an improvement.

Rin’s Gallery Courtyard 

This week we move on to something new which is call Match Photo. This is using photo’s we have of a building or a courtyard, and turn it in to a SketchUp Model. In class today we started on working on a Japanese building call Rin’s Gallery Courtyard.

As a first timer, this is a really hard model to make. The picture it self is totally not enough, making this making me feel like Nancy Drew or even Sherlock Holmes, there is so much guessing, and finding the right place to put the lines. Another thing is that it’s so frustrating making it, when I move around the picture is gone, and everything depends on what you remember. I redid so many part again and a again to make it perfect, and making sure it looks the same.

All in all, this is a very fun project, took a lot of time on this. At the end, it turn out pretty good looking.

Tools Use: Match Photo, select, rectangle, measuring box, push or pull, move, copy, scale, tape measure, protractor, orbit, pan, and zoom

Smith House  Working on the Smith House took a lot of time and energy. The picture didn’t look so hard, but once you can the Match Photo with it that’s where the hard part comes in.

 My favorite part is doing the Match Photo because it’s makes me feel so professional, and I think it’s the best part of the project. But it’s also the most difficult part, because if you got the lines wrong, it can really mess you up.

 This model took a lot of time, because you can not just guess on the other two side of the building, I flip back a forth with the pages to make sure that it look right, and know where each wall is, and where a gap comes in.

Scale Reflection  Today’s class we did some excise with the architecture scale and the engineering scale.

 Even thought that it took a long time getting and understanding how these scales work, it was really good practice.

 Understanding how to use the scale was really hard, to be honest I’ve never touch one of these scales before, and at the start it was hard to understand why it look so different. The zero is not on the side, but instead it’s in the middle. Also how each measurement for each size is different.

 The engineering scale is a whole other thing from the architecture ones, but it’s much easier so that one did fine.

In class, our teacher put some measurements up on the board for us to measure the line.

Window Rooms

Reflection  Making the window rooms was something really creative. We learn how windows are very important in a house, also how light come in can make the rooms look much better.

 We made three design of room with different windows. Which is my favorite thing in the house. For me I like big window, the one that can reach from the floor to the ceiling, which I imply in my third design.

 Working on this was fun and boring. Boring is not designing it bored, it’s the wait time I have waiting for things to load up, which was forever. Fun is that I discover a lot of new design for windows, from the internet and also by exploring others work.

The Little Lodge House

The Little Lodge House 

The Lodge House took a lot of time and ideas. At first, I had a lot of ideas in mind for this project, but after knowing that the space I had is so small, I have to limit my ideas so it can all fit in to this small space. Working on it I pretended that I am the one who is living in this house, and how I want it to look like.

I made a lot of change through out the process of making this model, and change some measurement so if someone do live there can have all the space they need in this little house.

In this house, I try to have has much of an open space as possible, since the house is kind of small, having more windows would make it look much bigger.

Tools used : Sandbox, select, rectangle, measuring box, push or pull, circle, move, scale, tape measure, orbit, pan, and zoom
