EQUALITY WHILE THERE ARE COUTLESS PRESSING ISSUES WE FACE DAY TO DAY, EQUITY IS AN UNDERLYING ISSUE THAT DESIGNERS OFTEN TIMES FACE UNAWARE. IN A PLACE OF EDUCATION, THIS IS WHERE IT ALL STARTS. ENABLING STUDENTS TO INTERACT WITH SPACES THAT ALLOW FOR PHYSICAL EQUALITY UNCONSCIOUSLY WILL STAY WITH THEM AS TO THE STANDARD REQUIRED FOR FUTURE PROJECTS. ENTRY FROM VICTORIA PARK ROAD SERVES AS A LEVEL POINT THAT FOLLOWS THROUGH TO UPPER KUNDU ENTRANCE. THIS LINKS THE CREATIVE INDUSTRIES PRECINCT WITH GREATER EASE THAN ALONG STEEP MUSK AVENUE. A STEPPED RAMP AMPITHEATRE INVITES ENTRY FROM MUSK AVENUES PROMINENT BUS STOP, PROVIDING SPACE FOR IMPROV PRESENTATIONS AND DISPLAY OF STUDENT WORK. WORKING WITH TALENTED LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTS ALLOWS FOR TRANSITIONS OF SPACES TO BECOME FLUID. INTERIOR ARCHITECTS & INDUSTRIAL DESIGNERS ENSURE THAT MORE SPECIFIC DETAILS ARE ACCESSIBLE. ENABLING ACCESS TO CI ACADEMICS, RESEARCH STAFF & INDUSTRY PROFESSIONALS OPENS A WHOLE LEVEL OF EXPOSURE TO ATTENDING STUDENTS WITHOUT LEAVING THE CAMPUS.

CONCEPTION

DESIGN: MASTERS STUDIO 2

Democracy is a system of Government where elected members speak on behalf of the people. Power is not inherited, representatives of the local community are voted in by vouching to fight for current communal concerns.

Demonstrating unity of Country, change is not implemented immediately; rather a compromise occurs. Discussions between political parties, that obtain opposing views and represent contrasting niche groups, find a middle ground and a resolution.

Integrating multi-faceted opinions into Brisbane’s own Hall of Democracy celebrates diversity through cohesion.

The Hall was created with the understanding that protest would arise, debate would occur, and conflict resolution would be the end goal.

Indulging in space dedicated to the public allows for comfort when integrating politics to discussions.

Familiarity within the environment and building a sense of participation within the Hall of Democracy was fundamental to the design. The facades change dynamically according to human impact and natural environment offering a direct impact to the building’s envelope.

Reflecting back to the origin of democracy in Greece, its evolution stood for freedom within stability.

Rigid structure but with the power to manipulate the habitat displays how individuals have impact on issues at hand, become influencer’s for change, and even work hand in hand through ordeals.

The architects have reflected on basic yet fundamental techniques to cohere with Australian environmental demands. Employing verandah space and native flora assist in creating a home amongst the gum trees.
