The Woolverton Hall, formally known as the Grimsby Baptist Church, is a historic building constructed in 1880 in downtown Grimsby. This project explores the renovation and expansion into the Woolverton development, which will introduce a mix of residential, retail, and community uses to the neighbourhood. Modern outdoor amenities in the form of a flexible square, and enhanced streetscape add many vibrant placemaking and gathering opportunities for the community. The flexible square is a public plaza that will host various markets and events, paying homage to the escarpment through the use of integrated stone and water features. The residential courtyard showcases an elevated boardwalk leading to private raised terraces amongst wavering native perennials, grasses and shaded canopy trees.

The Emily Hall Tremaine Foundation is a rural property that is home to a beautiful building designed by renowned architect Phillip Johnson. Guests will enter through the wildflower entrance, and can take the route through the apple orchard to the grand open meadow. Winding trails take users up and around the site, through key explorations of the landscape. Passing by the fragrant, bright blooms of native lilies, and crossing over the babbling river, one becomes completely enchanted with experiences of all five senses. Series of terraces overlook the meadow, and hidden meadow clearings provide opportunities to be surprised over and over again by the beauty of natural elements on the site. With native groundcover to enhance the existing woodland, and native perennials chosen for their seasonal interest, this is a must-see experience in all seasons.

The Landscape Concept for the Pavilion scheme leverages the natural beauty of the Oklahoma native landscape of prairie, meadows and woodlands, and builds upon the topographic change that occurs naturally on the site. The landscape is re-graded to slope up to a second level building entrance on the west – the High Meadow and is carved out for ground floor exposure to the views to the east over the Low Meadow. The building floats within the natural meadow landscape with a long linear covered porch that extends along its entire east side, providing a place for gathering or reflection overlooking the meadow, lower lawn, and lake with waterfall. Quiet, ornamental pools of water define both the entrance to the campus on the west and the porch edge along the east. The bridge from the staff and visitor parking in the High Meadow extends over a broad sunken Zen-like Garden, while players move through the garden from below-grade parking. The siting of the building capitalizes on views east to the Low Meadow and lake, while also providing a broad landscape environment as part of the campus entrance experience from the west, setting it apart from its environs.

There are edible plants and fruit trees sprinkled across the site, providing fruit and berries to local foragers. The driving aisle showcases a painting mural which reflects the history and vibrancy of the neighbourhood. This side and rear space is a flexible programming space that becomes activated on event days, with picnic tables and mobile sports equipment.

This residential project amplifies the lush natural elements of the adjacent ravine, adding native perennials and trees to the front and rear of the property. With custom cortan-steel gates and fencing, as well as the dense planting, there is a secure perimeter. Heated driveway paving wraps the front of the house leading to unit pavers around the side and rear of the home. A thoughtfully designed rear walk-out includes a custom water fountain and fire feature, framed by tall shrubbery to create a secluded, sunken outdoor living room. The backyard slopes towards the ravine, where beautiful swaths of various native perennials, multi-stemmed trees, and groundcover enhance this natural feature and provide ample opportunities for pollinator species and wildlife.
