LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR

To my lovely hippos, To my lovely hippos,

My name is Isaiah Newby and I proudly serve as YOUR lieutenant governor for the 2023 to 2024 term During my time in Key Club, I've served as service coordinator, and member retention committee chair at Canyon Hills High School. Currently, I serve on the Cal-Nev-Ha district board on the Policy, International Business, and Elections committee.

Throughout high school, Key Club has been a beacon of light that has allowed me to work with a diverse network of students with one common goal: Serving our nation and world. As YOUR lieutenant governor, my mission is to empower and inspire members around our division who have a will to serve in order to foster the generation of tomorrow's leaders. The relationships I've formed because of key club have have changed my life, and as YOUR lieutenant governor, I am ecstatic to establish new personal connections with members across D21 as we embark on a new term of progress and growth. I am a firm believer that Key Club moments are the start of something really beautiful. For some, it could be their first spirit session, or simply being greeted by a key clubber at a community festival. My challenge for you is the be the cause of someone's Key Club moment Be the reason someone joins our hippOHANA, and seize

the opportunity the make a positive change in your community. Again, I am so excited to serve you all this term, and I know that together, we will achieve amazing things.

Hey hippos!! Hey hippos!!

I'm Jenna Vo, and I'm currently a junior at Canyon Hills High School. During my Key Club journey, I've served on my home club's fundraising committee and I currently serve as Vice President Now, I look forward to serving as your District News Editor for the 2023-2024 term!

My first experience with the Kiwanis family was when I joined my middle school's Kiwanis Builder's Club, where we did similar volunteering activities to Key Club. When I entered high school, Key Club was one of my first clubs, and I fell in love with everything about it: the people -- the friends I made along the way -- and the collaboration -- the inspiring result when all kinds of people across all these schools work together towards a common goal.

From giving kids a magical Halloween at the Miramar Halloween Carnival, to working together become the highest donating division in the Cal-Nev-Ha district-- they say teamwork makes the dream work, and we really make the greatest impact when we come together and combine our efforts, and so I'm so excited for the opportunity to take on a more active role in this wonderful community!

I love love love cats and my some of my favorite foods include poke and all things strawberry flavored! I also enjoy playing badminton, although I’m not great, and crocheting during my free time. If I’m not doing either of those, I’ll probably be sleeping or stressed about the mountain of homework I have to do. Although this year is coming to an end, I’m looking forward to another great term and hopefully getting to work with all of the amazing clubs in our division!

SPRING FESTIVAL SPRING FESTIVAL

This month our key club hosted a booth at the Spring Festival to fundraise for the Pediatric Trauma Program. We sold bracelets that we made in a meeting as well as let people make their own bracelets. It was very

fulfilling to know that we are helping people We also enjoyed seeing people have fun at our booth.

RUMMAGE & BAKE SALE RUMMAGE & BAKE SALE

The first day of the new term the Mira Mesa and Scripps Ranch Clubs helped our local Kiwanis promote their Rummage and Bake Sale. While we did hold signs for the Kiwanians, the most memorable parts was when Ms. Joanne made sandwiches for us. Additionally, we met new freshman from the Scripps Club! This event was great, our members and officers not only bonded with one another, but with our Scripps neighbors and Kiwanians too.

BIKE PATH CLEAN UP BIKE PATH CLEAN UP

On May 6th, I arrived at the Via Del Norte entrance to the bike path local to La Jolla High School, ready to volunteer my cleaning efforts. The early 9:00 meeting time did not deter the passionate service members of the San Diego community to beautify the trail Joined by elementary students and elderly alike, I promptly grabbed a rake and began cleaning the leaves and grasses around the sides of the path. The work was gratifying, and I felt prideful at the incredible difference teamwork could make About 20 volunteers hauled trash can after trash can filled with debris to a shipping container that would eventually become entirely stuffed with natural material. After two hours of intense cleaning, the clean-up coordinator, Debbie Adams, treated her hard-working volunteers with donuts and water. Not only does the La Jolla community want to help sustain its primacy, but it also wants to encourage and reward others for lending a helping hand

I love that every time I volunteer at a local Key Club event, I am introduced to unknown individuals. This month's Bike Path clean-up introduced me to Sam, an elderly man whom I helped chop down overgrown tree branches into a tarp for disposal. At the end of the event, I looked back at the beautiful Bike Path in marvel. I look forward to future Key Club service events at the beautiful Path with our equally exquisite LJHS Key Club.

MULTI-CULTURAL FAIR MULTI-CULTURAL FAIR

The Linda Vista Multi-Cultural Fair and Parade is an annual event that takes place in our neighborhood The festival aims to promote cultural awareness and understanding within the City of San Diego. The fair itself was great As an ambassador for the small school of BST(Biomedical Science and Technology) at Kearny, I got to show my experiences being in BST for 3 years now I got to meet with a variety of people who vary in age, occupation, and different backgrounds. It was a great time overall interacting with everyone. What we got to show them was the anatomy of a pig body, CPR simulation, human skeleton anatomy with bones, suturing simulation, and much more.

WALK-A-THON WALK-A-THON

This month Hoover Key Club helped facilitate the annual SJA (Social Justice Academy) Walk-a-thon. Each lap completed would go towards charity funding for seniors transitioning into college Members were up during early morning hours to set up tents, decorate tables, blow up balloons, and fill up water stations. Everyone present was given a 2023 SJA Walk-a-thon shirt to commemorate the occasion As Key Club members walked the track, they chatted and munched on snacks provided. Overall, we had a blast socializing with friends and animals , all while supporting our SJA peers At the end of the day, members helped tidy up the field and celebrated with some free food for another successful SJA Walk-a-thon.
