Inspirational teen A MANSFIELD teenager called an inspiration for her charity efforts has been named a national star. Chloe Atlas, (15), was presented with The Children’s Society national Star Award to recognise her commitment to the charity’s work with vulnerable teenagers who experience abuse, neglect and poverty. The award ceremony at the charity’s annual Over The Rainbow event, held at Burnley Football Club, recognised the exceptional
achievements, resilience and determination of children and young people involved with the cause. Chloe overcame personal difficulties and helped raise awareness of issues affecting young people, while helping protect the lives of children. The teenager has worked with Dean Barr at The Children’s Society’s Safe Choices project, where she received support to use her (Continued on page 2)
MANSFIELD’S main Post Office has moved into the WH Smith store in the Four Seasons Centre. Rebekah O’Neill, Four Seasons manager, said: “We have a brilliant range of retailers and services at the centre and we are pleased for the Post Office to become a part of our fantastic mix. “We are thrilled that the Post Office’s vital services will still be available and convenient through this move.” Roger Gale, Post Office sales and trade marketing director, said the move would help to ensure that the branch was commercially viable in the future.

A COMEDY dining event themed on television’s Only Fools And Horses raised £5,000 for Cancer Research UK. Only Fools And Three Courses, held at The Hostess Restaurant, Sookholme, was organised by Phil, Sarah and Evie Summerbell and Gary, Tracy and Amelia Betts, all from Mansfield Woodhouse. A total of 140 family and friends had a three-course meal, centred around Rodney and Del Boy
attending Marlene and Boycie’s dinner party. There was a charity raffle and disco. Actors played Del Boy, Rodney, Uncle Albert, Boycie, Marlene, Trigger, Tony Farino and Raquel, delivering interactive comedy sketches. Well known iconic scenes from the show were acted out. 13 courageous young people are celebrated INSPIRATIONAL youngsters who flourish in the face of adversity were honoured at Mansfield Rotary Club’s annual Courage Awards.
Now in its 26th year, the event was hosted at The Civic Quarter, Mansfield, in front of the 13 young people’s families and teachers. The event was broadcast live on radio station Mansfield 103.2 as moving tributes were paid by tutors and teachers. Each of the nominees — some of whom go out of their way to help others, or are fighting debilitating illness, or are overcoming severe injuries or are seen as a role model to others — were presented with a certificate and a plaque after being nominated by their school or college. Presenting the awards were Mansfield Rotary Club president Cate Hunt and Mansfield mayor Kate Allsop. Other guests included Miss Mansfield Amy Bielby, Miss Mansfield Outstanding Teen
Lucy Edwards, and Mansfield and Ashfield 2020 chairman Russell Jones. Cate Hunt said: “It has been extremely moving. They all deserve to be honoured for the way they have all shown courage in overcoming their own adversity. “It makes you proud to be part of Mansfield and the surrounding districts.” Kate Allsop said: “The stories we heard were absolutely incredible. “To hear how these youngsters have overcome adversity to continue their lives is absolutely fantastic.” The Schools Advisory Service sponsored the overall event.
