Our Theory of Change

At the heart of our work is a commitment to giving young people the chance to broaden their horizons, explore the world, and channel their passion, energy, and enthusiasm into creating positive change for communities less fortunate than their own. Our theory of change (shown below) reflects this vision - focusing on how we can empower today’s youth to become the changemakers of tomorrow.

Short term programs, long term impact.

Delivering programs that focus on positive student, community and environmental impact

Developing skills and addressing inequalities

1: Students and graduates are not gaining enough life skills and experience to be prepared for the real world

2: There is great inequality in the world and people in low income families have access to less opportunities

Global Citizenship Journeys

Programs that provide students opportunities to gain skills, while supporting those from low income backgrounds with funding to access opportunities

Measuring Change

As a Certified B Corporation, we continuously measure the impact of our work across our global community, identifying key achievements alongside the following three main outcomes:

Student Impact

Developing the next generation of Global Citizens, evaluating 10 areas of skills development, reflecting on global citizenship journeys and looking ahead with new perspectives.

Community Impact

Delivering short-term programs with positive, longterm impacts on local communities around the world, as we work towards supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Environmental Impact

Creating a more sustainable future as we invest in reforestation projects to reduce our carbon footprint as we progress towards becoming carbon neutral.

Student Impact

Student Impact is at the core of everything we do From the moment students join our programmes to long after they return home, we are intentional about building the skills, confidence, and perspectives that will shape their futures.

We know that many graduates enter the job market underprepared, lacking the hard and soft skills employers need International learning experiences can change that - research shows they significantly enhance employability, leading to higher employment rates, better salaries, and stronger global career prospects.

To measure this impact, we track development across 10 key skills identified by the World Economic Forum as most valued by employers We also capture personal growth through reflections on students’ global citizenship journeys, ensuring they leave not only with new skills, but with a broader outlook on the world and their place within it.

We aim for:

Over 90% of students to have shown an improvement in the 10 key skills that we measure

Over 90% of students to state in their surveys they felt their program was life changing

Over 60% of students to complete their surveys

100% of staff to participate in debrief sessions.

Maintain a target of 95% 4 star plus satisfaction each year

We measure this by:

Staff and Student Debriefs

Surveys

Reflection sessions whilst on program

Tracking destinations of our participants through keeping in touch surveys

Longstanding partnerships

Community Impact

Community impact is central to our purpose. Through our partnership with our charity, the FutureSense Foundation, every program we deliver contributes to meaningful, long-term impact in the communities we serve

While our participants take part in short-term programs, the projects that they support are part of ongoing, sustainable initiatives aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. As a social enterprise, we invest in the FutureSense Foundation’s work - ensuring that every journey creates value not only for the students who travel, but for the communities that we support

We track this impact closely, working alongside the FutureSense Foundation and our local partners to ensure our efforts create genuine, lasting benefits.

We aim to: We measure this by:

Donate 20% of our profits to FutureSense Foundation

Reach 10,000 children from low income underserved communities with educational workshops each year

Contribute to the local economies in the low income, rural communities where our hubs are based

Regular reports from the FutureSense Foundation

Feedback from our community partners

Challenges Abroad staff visiting hubs to see firsthand the work happening on the ground

Environmental Impact

Environmental impact is a vital part of what we do. We are committed to creating a more sustainable future - offsetting the carbon emissions generated by our programs, progressing towards becoming a net-positive organisation and engaging in climate action initiatives that make a difference both globally and locally.

Every student who joins our programs, regardless of destination or focus, contributes to these initiatives. From reforestation projects to community clean-ups and environmental awareness activities, our participants help create lasting change for the planet while deepening their own understanding of environmental responsibility

We work closely with the FutureSense Foundation and our local partners to ensure these efforts are meaningful, measurable, and leave a positive legacy for the communities and environments we touch

We aim to: We measure this by:

Ensure our activities do not cause any negative impact to the planet

Aim for 20% of our community hours to be spent on environmental initiatives

Raise environmental awareness with travelling students as well as local communities where we work

Calculating the carbon footprint of every participant who travels on our programs as well as all of our staff activities and offset the same through a carbon offset provider

Number the trees we plant and community clean ups we do in local communities

Feedback from participants
