Don’t Forget to Check the 4Cs when Buying Pawn Shop Diamond Rings When it really comes down to it, the process of buying a diamond ring from a pawn shop is much the same as the process of buying a diamond ring at a place like Tiffany & Co. There will certainly be a difference in styles and availability, but at the end of the day, all potential customers should be taking one key thing into account, and that is the quality of the 4Cs for the diamond in question! To help you out, whether it is new to you or just to refresh your memory, here is a reminder of what the 4Cs are when you are in the market for high-quality pawn shop diamond rings. 1st C: Cut The cut of a diamond is crucial, as making sure that everything is perfectly symmetrical with aligned facets will guarantee that you maximize the sparkle factor of any stone. Light reflects internally from a diamond from one facet to another, so the more evenly it can be dispersed, the more sparkling it will be. The cut is graded on a GIA scale of Excellent to Poor, and the risk of a badly cut diamond on the lower end of the scale includes a dull appearance. 2nd C: Color The color of a diamond is graded on a scale that contains 23 different shades, with ice white being D (or colorless) and warmer tones being Z (light color). The more white a diamond is, the more expensive it is going to be, and it is worth stating that this color scale is only for white presenting stones, rather than blue, green, red, and other intentionally colored diamonds that are not judged on this spectrum. 3rd C: Carat Carat refers to the weight of the diamond in question. One diamond carat is equivalent to 200 milligrams, and the most precise measurements possible are always taken by jewelers to make sure that the value is correct, sometimes going down to hundredths of decimal places to guarantee accuracy. It goes without saying that the more carat weight a diamond possesses, the more expensive it is going to be to purchase! 4th C: Clarity The clarity level refers to how many natural inclusions there are in the diamond. The organic process of natural diamond creation means that pretty much every stone will have its own small inclusions, but whether or not they are noticeable to the naked eye is another matter. The fewer inclusions that are visible, the higher up the clarity scale the stone will be, and the more money it will command at the sale stage.
