“Sefydlwyd Comisiynydd Plant Cymru gan Ddeddf Safonau Gofal 2000. O dan y Ddeddf, gallaf, fel Comisiynydd: — roi cyngor a gwybodaeth i blant, pobl ifanc, ynghyd â gweithwyr proffesiynol ac oedolion eraill sy’n pryderu am hawliau a lles plentyn neu blant yn gyffredinol — cynnig cyngor a chefnogaeth i blant a phobl ifanc, gan eu helpu nhw i fynegi eu barn a’u dymuniadau — edrych ar achosion lle’r oedd potensial i wasanaethau fethu plentyn neu blant — cynorthwyo plant a phobl ifanc – gan gynnwys darparu cymorth ariannol a chynrychiolaeth mewn achosion llys – nad yw eu hawliau wedi cael eu parchu. Tra bod grymoedd y swydd yn helaeth, mae pethau na all fy swyddfa eu gwneud, er enghraifft, ni allwn edrych ar unrhyw fater sy’n destun achos llys neu y penderfynwyd arno gan lys neu dribiwnlys.”
“The Children’s Commissioner for Wales was established by the Care Standards Act 2000. Under the Act, as Commissioner I can: — provide advice and information to children, young people as well as to professionals and other adults who are concerned about the rights and welfare of a child or of children in general — offer advice and support to children and young people, helping them to express their views and wishes — examine cases where services could have potentially failed a child or children — assist children and young people – including providing financial assistance and representation in legal proceedings – whose rights have not been respected. While the powers of the office are wide, there are also things my office cannot do; for example, we cannot look into any matter as far as it is subject to legal proceedings or has been determined by a court or tribunal.”
