NEWSLETTER T H E B E D F O R D C O L L E G E G R O U P
Dear Parents,
Welcome to our first edition of our department newsletter being shared with parents.
Many of you I have met or had communication with already this academic year and many of you I am yet to meet.
We very much recognise the importance of parental communication and engagement and are working hard to improve this within our department. Please bear with us whilst we are rolling out the improvements we have planned.
I would like to take this opportunity to ask you all to help us maintain student engagement. It is often a time of the year when students are struggling with keeping on top of their work and this if often seen in their attendance dropping Please can you ensure your young people continue to attend college and if you do see that they are struggling encourage them to seek guidance from us. In addition to this please free to contact us yourselves ( contact details are available in this newsletter) if you have concern.
Kind Regards, Nicola
Shortland

Level 2 Childcare have created models of their own Early Years setting. In their creations, they considered sensory needs, areas of development and learning too.

Creating story books!
Level 3 Childcare (Year 2) created story books that promote school readiness for children making the transition from Early Years settings to schools. They used their knowledge from placement and in-class learning to create imaginative stories. The stories were voted for by Level 3 Childcare (1st Years) who decided that Alan The Alien was the winner! Well done to Mimi, Maddie, Lucy, Izzey and Emily.

As a college group, we had various International Women's Day 2023 activities to take part in. However, Childcare & Health and Social Care students showed their own appreciation by celebrating famous women who have been an inspiration in their lives.

Alfred is a part of the Children in Care Council (CCC), who input ideas for how looked after young people in our borough can be supported in care. He has been involved in developing a support network for LGBTQ+ individuals in the care system as well as hosting parties and celebrations for looked after young people in the borough.
Alfred has had recent round table meetings with Dame Rachel de Souza and Labour minister Josh MacAlister to discuss improving care systems to prevent the deaths of vulnerable young people in care.
Alfred has been involved in creating major changes in the way that care providers are inspected. After the CCC campaigned for better regulation of providers, this resulted in inspection framework amendments.
