Editor’s Notes

Springing Into New Beginnings

My name is Kelsey Ruzicka. I am the new publisher for The Country Register Oregon/Washington/Idaho paper! I am very pleased to meet and work with you all. I am so excited to serve this northern region.

I come to you with over 5 years of experience in the Country Register family. I have had another publication, the Northern Rockies Great Plains (ND, SD, MT, WY) issue of The Country Register since 2018. I also recently purchased the Kansas Country Register at the end of 2023. I have been in the publishing world for over 15 years. I worked in corporate communications land for 10 years before entering out on my own and purchasing a marketing company (Moxie Marketing of the Midwest, LLC) and The Country Register publication in 2018. My marketing company focuses on branding, website development, graphic design, email marketing and much more. We are full service. So, I come to you with lots of marketing MOXIE and a zest and admiration for ink and print. Also, with lots of innovation and a true crafter’s heart. I was born and raised in the Panhandle of Nebraska, and made my way north to the Black Hills of South Dakota for school. Then, I stayed and built my family and business in the beautiful Black Hills. So, I am deeply rooted in our country lifestyle and home-grown way of life.

Spring inspires joy doesn’t it? It is such a breath of fresh air after long winter months. It ushers in sunshine and invites us outside again. Henry David Thoreau writes, “We can never have enough of nature. Live in each season as it passes; breathe the air, drink the drink, taste the fruit, and resign yourself to the influence of the earth.”

So, the ability to get out and prep the garden, take a walk, bask in the sunshine - it is all definitely a cob web cleaning for the body, mind and soul. This time of year we typically reorganize, deep clean and purge clutter in our homes. We start new projects. The season is often associated with new beginnings and new ideas.

This year I took that “new beginnings” notion to a whole new level. I made the decision to level up in my business and grow my publishing side of my business. I not only added one, but three new publications to my collection. It has been an exciting ride and one full of tasks. But, I am so very grateful to Barb & Lolly for their mentorship and faith in me. They have made it easy to ask questions and succeed. I am forever thankful. I also couldn’t be as successful or efficient without Patty Duncan and all of her expertise and talent. She is a gem. So, this girl is not only grateful for the opportunity, but grateful for the wonderful folks around me making it all happen.

“We must walk consciously only part way to our goal, and then leap in the dark toward our success.” - Thoreau I adore the Oregon/Washington/Idaho area, and am thrilled to get to expand my publication offering. I have had Northern Idaho as a part of my Northern Rockies Great Plains Edition, and look forward to serving Idaho, Oregon and Washington customers with passion for our handmade arts and love/respect for the region you all live. I look forward to working with you all.

Warm greetings, -Kelsey countryregisterwaor@gmail.com kelsey@moxiemarketingmw.com Office: 605-568-0181

Follow the Stars to Umpqua Valley

The Umpqua Valley Quilters’ Guild (UVQG) will present its 39th Annual Quilt Show on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, April 26th, 27th and 28th. The “Follow the Stars” show will be held at the Douglas County Fairgrounds, 2110 Frear St. in Roseburg.

Approximately 300 quilts as well as other quilted items will be on display during the Guild Show. There will be 23 categories including the UVQG Paint Chip Challenge and this year’s theme of “Follow the Stars” quilts. The UVQG event will include memorable Quilts of Valor presentations honoring Douglas County Veterans for their service to our Country.

Special exhibits from the Hoffman California Fabrics Hoffman Challenge and The Storytellers from Clark County, Washington will both be part of the show. These are beautiful exhibits and definitely worth coming to see.

This show is one of the few judged shows in Oregon with over $700 in cash prizes to be awarded. Cash awards are for Best of Show, Mayor’s Choice, President’s Choice, Umpqua Community College President’s Choice, Judge’s Choice, and Viewer’s Choice. Sponsors’ Choice ribbons will be awarded by individual Quilt Show Sponsors. Kathie Kerler and Gerrie Thompson will be the show judges.

Quilt show classes include: Stonehenge with Rona Herman, the Featured Quilter as the instructor; Sunflower Splendor instructed by Ken Casey; and Repurposed Animal Feedbag Grocery Bags instructed by Sandy Medak. All classes are available online at www.uvquilters.com. Spaces are limited, so sign up early.

There will be a variety of vendors at the Show with the latest in quilting and sewing machines, quality fabrics, sewing notions and more! There will also be raffle basket drawings.

The popular Stitch and Sew Emporium will offer beautiful quilts and handcrafted items made by some of the Guild’s best quilters. Be sure to stop in and treat yourself to a gift or find something for a friend.

The 2023 Raffle Quilt, “Stonehenge,” was pieced and quilted by Guild members. The traditional Lone Star pattern in Stonehenge fabrics has a timeless, yet contemporary look. Raffle tickets are six for $5 and are sold throughout the year up to a maximum of 5,000 tickets sold. They are available at the show and online. The winning ticket will be drawn at the show during the afternoon of April 28th and the winner does not need to be present to win.

The 2024 Featured Quilter is Rona Herman “Rona the Ribbiter” from Auburn, Indiana. She will be giving a lecture on Saturday, free with show admission. Rona is an author, pattern designer, teacher and Vlogger with a passion to see and experience all that life (and quilting) has to offer. She uses travel to stitch life’s grand quilt, one adventure at a time! Her website offers numerous free resources to quilters including a list of Quilt Shops across the US, Shop Hops, Quilt Museums, and quilt shop road trip planning resources.

Honored Quilter and lifelong sewist, June Kuitert, has been quilting for 16 years. Although family and friends have received many of her projects, she and two friends started a Cancer Comfort Quilt ministry five years ago providing cancer treatment patients with a lap quilt and matching bag. With the bag pockets filled with practical comfort items, one or more of the women personally presents the quilt to the recipient and prays with them. Quilting brings great joy to June!

Go to https://www.uvquilters.com/ to learn more about Umpqua Valley Quilters’ Guild and the Quilt Show, including paying for a class, entry tickets, raffle quilt tickets and/or to enter your quilt. You can also follow the Guild on Facebook or email questions to uvquiltersshow@gmail.com.

My First Quilt

I sewed

And sewed

Stich by stitch

Each stitch by hand

The first third all wrong

No rhyme nor reason

Then the second third carefully planned

After listening to Richard, my husband

And seeing the first quilts of Karen, my dear friend

So measured and perpendicular fine

The last third I just had fun

Weaving a kaleidoscope of color and form

Like my life messy, but strong in faith and love of family

I see the result

And like my life

I am well pleased

It is like this quilt, well sewn.

A Cup of Tea with Lydia: Spring into TEA

I grew up on a dairy farm in Blaine, Washington where my mother served afternoon coffee and fresh homemade zwieback (yeast double buns) on Sunday afternoons. This German Russian tradition was called faspa. Often friends dropped in unannounced during that time. Mother would quickly set out a spread of sliced cheese, meats, rolls, home-canned fruit and sweets to serve them.

My parents’ hospitality made an impression. I enjoyed these spur-of-the-moment visits with church folks and wanted to follow my mother’s example.

Hospitali-TEA

Years later, when a friend gave me If Teacups Could Talk by Emilie Barnes, I became inspired to invite family and friends for a cup of tea. Since I was also just beginning to write for a publication, I decided to write a column I entitled, “A Cup of Tea with Lydia.” When I told my writing mentor about my idea for a tea column, she said, “That would bore me to tears.”

It hasn’t bored me to tears. Now decades later, I still enjoy going out for tea, serving tea to others and writing this tea column. I hope you enjoy the column too.

A friend asked me, “How do you keep coming up with ideas to write about?”

“I just keep serving tea,” I replied. I don’t usually plan for teatime to have a topic for the column. But often after serving guests, I realize, “This could make a good tea column.” The tea party inspires the column, not the reverse.

Impromptu Teas

If teacups could talk, mine would have many stories to tell. Like what happened a month ago when my granddaughters (13 and 20) planned to stop by. “Would you like to come for tea?” I asked. And they did.

Without much time to prepare, I planned a menu around the food I had on hand. I made crustless cucumber-and-cream cheese sandwiches, scone blossoms from my cookbook In the Kitchen with Grandma and served sweets from my freezer.

Placemats, floral teacups and saucers and a three-tier plate stand filled with food welcomed them to the table. The bottom plate held fresh-baked scones, Norwegian krumkake, and cookies. On the side, homemade whipped cream, jam and lemon curd accompanied the scones. The middle plate held the sandwiches and edible small trees for a garnish. A slice of summer sausage was the tree base, thin cucumber slices were folded back and forth for the tree, with a cheese star on top—all held together with a toothpick. The smaller top plate contained cupcake liners filled with fresh raspberries and small chunks of melon.

They each had their own small pot of a favorite herbal tea—Country Peach Passion—and the three-tier stand rested on the table between them. What a delightful way to spend an impromptu visit! Now my teacups have another story to tell.

Spring Teas

Spring is a lovely season to share tea. How about an Easter brunch, a St. Patrick’s Day par-tea, or a Mother’s Day teatime? Or perhaps you have a birthday or shower to celebrate. Find my recipe on this Country Register Facebook page! It will add a colorful sweet and salty crunch to whatever else is on the menu.

I can’t wait until my next tea party! Won’t you join me?

Lydia E. Harris is a tea enthusiast, grandmother of five, and the author of three grandparenting books: GRAND Moments: Devotions Inspired by Grandkids (2023); In the Kitchen with Grandma: Stirring Up Tasty Memories Together and Preparing My Heart for Grandparenting. All are available online and wherever books are sold.

Fabulous vendors from Oregon and California will be selling fabrics, patterns, notions, and the latest tools and machines for quilters. Door prize entries are included with admission. Door prizes will be given away hourly on both days and you must be present to win. Enticing themed baskets will be raffled with winners on both days.

The “Heartworks Boutique” will feature gently used sewing supplies, fabrics, kits, and quilt books, as well as quilts and gifts handcrafted by members which will be sold at ridiculously low prices. Visitors to the boutique will also be able to place bids in a “Silent Auction” featuring beautiful quilts, wall hangings, and other types of fabric art.

The Rogue Valley Piecemakers are dedicated to contributing to the growth and knowledge of quilting through friendship, inspiration, education, and community outreach. Members make and give quilts to patients undergoing cancer treatment, the nation’s vet- erans, young mothers and children, and other individuals in the community who are in need of warmth and comfort.

If you are interested in learning more about the Rogue Valley Piecemakers you are welcome to visit any of the meetings held on the first and third Mondays from 9 am to noon at the Fruitdale Grange in Grants Pass. Visit www.RVPiecemakers.com for more information.

History of Leprechauns in 5 Tidbits:

The first stories of leprechauns began around the 8th century, when legends of tiny water dwellers began emerging from the Celts, Leprechauns are known as part of the fairy family.

The word leprechauns comes from the word “luchorpan” which means small body. The leprechauns are only 2-3 feet in height and live in underground caves or hollow tree trunks.

Today leprechauns are associated with the color green and are always wearing green. But that was not always the case, leprechauns used to wear red

when the stories first started. But they changed to green, once the color started becoming more popular in Ireland.

The leprechauns come from Irish Heritage

They are famous for being cobblers of the fairy world. The word leprechaun also comes from the old term “leath bhrogane” ; this word means shoemakers. Being shoemakers is where leprechauns got their iconic pot of gold.

When Stitch Happens

Emerald Valley Quilters (EVQ) will be presenting their 2024 Quilt Show “Stitch Happens” on Friday May 3rd, 10am to 5pm and Saturday May 4th, 10am to 5pm, at the Lane County Events Center, Performance Hall, in Eugene.

More than 300 quilts are expected to be on display at the show, ranging from traditional to modern and everything in between. The Charity Build a Block will be presented by the Community Service Committee. Visitors can pick fabric shapes and place them on a board. A guild member will sew the fabric shapes together into a completed block that will be used in a quilt for charity. This is a fun experience for the whole family.

The Featured Quilter this year is the amazing Ken Casey. Quilting is a constantly changing and challenging art form for Ken. When people ask him “What kind of quilts do you make?” he will most often say something along the lines of “LOVING to play with color and using unexpected combinations.” He likes to challenge himself to try new techniques as often as he can. Ken is also one of less than a dozen certified Margaret Miller’s AnglePlay ™ instructors in the United States. He has taught classes in many states including Arizona, California, Colorado, Oregon, Tennessee and Washington. Members and guests can purchase a special ribbon for them to award the quilt or quilts of their choice. A docent will assist them in placing the ribbon on the quilt. I assure you the quilter will treasure the ribbon.

Skilled guild members will be giving demonstrations both days of the show; Pamela Reim - “Quilt Facing - An Alternative to Binding”, Heidi Lindsey - “Improvisational Piecing”, Denise Nash - “No Stress Curved Piecing for Small Landscape Quilts”, and Karen Klemme - “Where do Disappearing Blocks Go?”

The beautiful 2024 raffle quilt “Guilded Facets” was made by Emerald Valley Quilters and was designed by Sandie Massett. It will be on display at the show on May 3rd & 4th. Tickets are available for $1 each or 6 for $5. Tickets are available from any guild member or contact the group at EmeraldValleyQuilters@gmail.com. Drawing will be held during our guild meeting Dec.19th 2024. You need not be present to win.

The Small Quilt Auction is always a hit! It is your opportunity to own a little quilt. Prices are very reasonable and you will probably want to get more than one of these limited small quilts. This is a major fundraiser for our guild. It brings in our guest speakers and helps us to help our community in many ways.

Raffle Baskets will be up for grabs. Tickets are 1 for $1 or 6 for $5. The drawings will be held both Friday and Saturday. The winner’s name will be announced at the show. You need not be present to win at the time of the drawing. However, you must be willing to arrange for the pickup of the basket if you are one of the lucky winners.

Quilts of Valor will be sharing information on how you can get a quilt for the military heroes in your life and ways that you can participate.

And there will be a selection of vendors at the show. There are still limited spots available. Contact Mickie Broy at MB5GYP@comcast.net for more information.

Go On A Northwest Adventure

Clark County Quilters is proud to present their 48th Annual Regional Quilt and Fiber Arts Show, QuiltFest Northwest, April 4-6, 2024 at the Clark County Event Center, 17402 Delfel Road in Ridgefield, WA.

Themed “Northwest Adventure,” the show will feature over 300 quilts created by the members of the Guild, along with special exhibits and events, challenge quilts, a vendor mall, the Chrysalis portion of the “Monarch Butterfly” Cherrywood traveling exhibit, the Fort Vancouver Tapestry, large vendor mall, and much more.

This year’s featured exhibit shows quilts made by two very talented members of the Clark County Quilters Guild, Nancy Tubbs and DeAnn Perrigo.

Our featured quilter is the dynamic Krista Moser, who will present a trunk show of her beautiful quilts on Friday, along with an all-day workshop on Saturday. Preregistration is required at www.quiltfestnw.org.

Each day a Quilt of Valor will be presented to honor a local veteran, and examples of Quilts of Valor will be on exhibit. Veterans and active duty military personnel are encouraged to attend, and will receive a military discount for admission.

Proceeds from this year’s Opportunity Quilt, entitled “The Great Northwest,” benefit Northwest Battle Buddies organization that provides service dogs for veterans suffering from PTSD. Tickets are $5 each, and will be available at the show or from Guild members.

“This year we are celebrating our 50th anniversary as a guild. We will have a special quilt display, “Fantastic at Fifty,” in honor of our Golden Jubilee. There will be over 300 quilts on display at the show. These quilts are made to be used and loved or displayed as beautiful works of art,” said Kathy Jo Rockrohr, QuiltFest NW co-chair. “Clark County Quilters have been producing an amazing show each year, and this one will be the best one yet!”

The Guild has an Outreach program that teaches sewing and quilting skills to the public. Comfort Quilts makes and donates over 500 quilts annually to non-profit organizations in the community. The Guild presents two quilt shows annually: QuiltFest, a regional quilt show and fiber arts show, annually in April.

The Doll Corner - “The Million Dollar Baby”

There have been a lot of “Million Dollar Babies” that have come into the public eye and have slowly faded away, but none that have maintained their appeal as the Bye-Lo Baby. The Bye-lo Baby first appeared in 1922 and remains one of the most successful dolls of all time. The Bye-Lo revolutionized the doll market, as it was the first to look and feel like a real baby. It became an instant sensation and was “the doll” for every child to have.

The reason for the “Million Dollar Baby” tag line you ask? The doll originally sold for $1.75$2.50, which was a lot of money at the time and there were millions sold. The appeal for the doll came from the realistic feel that it provided with its stuffed body, sleep eyes and realistically formed celluloid reaching fingers. The body, with a frog-leg like look (which was designed to help make diapering easier), celluloid hands with outstretched fingers which looked like a baby trying to grab a bottle and the small sleep eyes that looked exactly like a baby asleep and awake, was a child’s dream for play.

The Bye-Lo baby was created by Grace Story Putnam, a well-known artist and doll designer of the time. She studied art in San Diego under Maud McMullan and later met a sculptor named Arthur Putnam whom she married in 1899. The couple moved to San Francisco to allow Arthur to pursue his career and later divorced in 1915. Grace, needing to support her children, started drawing, teaching art and painting. The love of art and sculpture led her to sculpting dolls and other figures. Grace was inspired when she visited a nursery on a trip to an area Salvation Army Store and saw a sleeping 3-day old baby girl. The idea of sculpting a realistic looking baby was sparked and her focus and determination was instantly directed to creating a doll for massdistribution.

George Borgfeldt and Co., a large importer of German dolls, doll parts, manufacturer, assembler and distributor was always looking for new and fresh merchandise. He was famous for distributing dolly-faced dolls and was very keen on staying on top of the doll market. His company, based in New York, was a significant hub for distribution throughout the U.S. and Canada. Borgfeldt held the distribution rights for many of the German manufacturers that doll collectors know of today. In addition to distribution, assembling and more, George was producing the Kewpie doll for Rose O’Neil in collaboration with a German porcelain manufacturer, which was extremely successful. As an American Businessman, he was always on the lookout for other dolls that could also be big sellers. When he saw the Bye-Lo Baby prototype, he quickly signed Grace Story Putnam to a contract and the rest was history.

Today Bye-Lo Babies can be found with bisque heads, composition heads, celluloid heads and everything from all-bisque bodies in the smallest sizes, to dolls with cloth bodies that can be upwards of 20” long. The Bye-Lo baby dolls represent the determination and imagination of a woman that wanted to support her family and is now a recognized designer in the Doll Community. Her legacy of creativity and ingenuity lives on with emerging creative doll artists today. The Bye-Lo baby not only represents a tremendous shift in the doll landscape of the times but remains a quintessential talisman of the American Dream. “You Can Do It,” if you just have the dream, determination, and willingness to work. This is what truly makes the Bye-Lo Baby the “Million Dollar” Baby.”

Mary Senko, owner of World Doll Day Shows, is a life-long doll collector. She started her collection at 6 yrs old and enjoys dolls of all kinds today. Looking for wonderful history and collectibles to add to your collection? You can find Bye-Lo’s, Dream Babies, Dolly-faced dolls, Barbies, Vintage, Composition Dolls, Bears, Toys, and Miniatures at her doll shows throughout the West. Check the calendar in this edition to find a great Doll and Bear Show near you and make plans to attend. Spring Events at Walla Walla Museum

Time to get out from under the quilts and out of the house to explore what the old fort has cooked up over the winter.

In March, Rebecca Hom speaks at Museum After Hours with a story she calls “No Small Lives.” Hom is a professional storyteller. She stumbled across the story of John Day, Ore., while traveling on a tour highlighting the history of Chinese pioneers in the American West. A chance conversation led her to the legacy of Ing Hay and Lung On as she looked into the KamWah Chung mercantile site.

Ing was an herbalist and pulseologist and Lung was the businessman, and between the two of them they owned and operated the mercantile in Grant County. Hom speaks to their experience in the late 1800’s and how the lives of the two men rippled forward in time and influenced a recent contemporary conflict.

Museum After Hours admission is free. Hom will be weaving her tale at 4 pm on March 28th in the Grand Hall at the Museum.

April plays tricks on everyone as the Museum’s authentic, outdoor Pioneer Village opens with a scavenger hunt that extends into the permanent galleries. Entrants are told to go hunt for the incongruous item they can spot in exhibits and turn in their list of found items and locations for a prize. The April Fools Scavenger Hunt goes on all the month of April.

But do not miss the Museum’s Open House on April 6th. It is a chance to mingle with visiting community vendors and perhaps even dance to live music. What a grand way to launch spring by discovering and mingling where history is our forté!

The Museum is open daily from 10 am to 4 pm through March and then open until 5 pm starting in April. Admission is $12 adults, $10 seniors and students, $5 children ages 6-12, and free for children ages 5 and under. Museum members receive free admission all year.

Membership starts at $35 for seniors and students, a couple can buy a dual membership for $55 and a whole household can join for $65. Membership entitles people to free admission, email announcements of special events, the quarterly newsletter “The Dispatch” and a discount at the Museum store. It is also good for admission to the Tamastslikt Cultural Institute near Pendelton. Visit our calendar with upcoming events at fwwn.org/all events. Spinning Frames

Do you love cats? Cat Quilts? Cat Fabric? How about drinking wine?

Northcott has a new collection – Whiskers and Wine shipping to stores now! This includes a border print (used in the quilt) and 28 unique motifs that are cleverly framed in this quilt.

Using a half rectangle triangle shape creates a spinning design around each printed image.

Consider using the AnglePlay® template system for the easiest construction of these half rectangle triangles.

This pattern is designed to work for 5 ½” cut squares in each frame. If you’ve got another size to use, the rectangle on each side can be adjusted to fit the shape!

The border stripe is fussy cut and gets you all the borders as shown in one piece for each side. The pattern includes mitering details.

You can find this pattern on my website or ask at a local quilt shop near you. Be sure to tag us if you make this up in these fabrics or something else. Happy Stitching!

Inspired by Tradition

The Main Ballroom at Three Rivers Convention Center in Kennewick will be filled with over 400 beautifully crafted quilts created by members and friends of Tri-City Quilters’ Guild (TCQG) for its 40th Annual Quilt Show and Merchant Mall on Friday and Saturday, March 22nd and 23th.

This year’s theme, “Inspired by Tradition” was chosen by chairwoman Renee Grabiec who was inspired by her love for traditional quilts. The Guild’s 2024 challenge quilt theme is “Origins.” The Challenge is open to all guild members to create a quilt depicting their origins.

Guest Featured Artist, Heather Black, is a quilt designer whose eye for modern color placement and design will inspire anyone to try a modern quilt. Her website is Quiltachusetts.com.

Member Featured Artist, Mark Palmer, selected by guild members, has impressive skill in his use of color and details as he never uses kits to make any of his quilts. His machine embroidery skills are also to be admired.

The 2024 raffle quilt titled “Good Day Sunshine” was created by the Sew Scattered Stitches friendship group. This group consists of Judy Deneen, Michele Boston, Janelle Domarotsky, Tina Foley, Judy Gel-haus, and Katie Harris. The quilting was done by Dana Pearson. The quilt is 82” X 90”. The drawing for the raffle quilt, “Good Day Sunshine,” will be at 4:30pm on Saturday March 23rd, the second day of the show.

TCQG’s quilt show tradition stretches back to 1983, the year following its incorporation. The annual exhibition fulfills both halves of the Guild’s mission – to educate and to serve the community; those who attend can observe the evolution of this traditional folk art and learn about the Guild’s donations to local human services agencies. The Show is made possible in part with a grant from the Washington State Arts Commission.

Currently, the Guild lists 250 members and it hosts regular meetings on the third Mondays each month at Hillspring Church in Richland. Morning meeting begins at 10 and evening session begins at 6:30. Tri-City Quilters’ Guild was established in 1982 to disseminate information about quilt history, patterns, techniques and trends; to contribute to the community by providing comfort quilts to agencies and individuals; and to sponsor activities that encourage quilt creation, quilt collection, quilt appreciation, and the enjoyment of other quilter’s company. Proceeds from the Annual Quilt Show help fund its mission.

Upper Country Living

In the mid 1980’s the Council Quilt Show began in Council, Idaho. The show ran faithfully for at least thirty-five years due to the huge community support by too many people to name. It began as a judged quilt show and evolved into a show which gave community sponsored awards. The highlight for many who entered quilts was to earn one of the “ribbons” handmade by the quilt show committee. Each year the show started the first week of June and ended with the town’s July 4th celebration and “world famous porcupine races.” Then came 2020 and that year most events did not happen.

Just south of Council is the small town of Cambridge, Idaho considered the Gateway to Hells Canyon. Many of the quilt show volunteers live in the area and asked permission to move the show to Cambridge. In 2022, the first annual Upper Country Quilt Show opened during Hells Canyon Days -Cambridge’s annual celebration. With two years of no quilt show in the area and lots of at-home time for quilters, over one hundred quilts were entered and the show was a huge success. In 2023, there were as many quilts entered with over fifty community sponsor awards given (cash plus one of those coveted handmade ribbons).

Country Living is the theme for 2024 show which will be held May 31–June 9, 10-5 daily in the Cambridge High School gym at 40 N. 4th Street.

With only a $5 admission fee, not only will each viewer be able to enjoy all the quilts, but they will be given a ballot to vote for their pick of theme quilt, viewer’s choice and challenge block awards. Those three categories receive either cash prizes or in the case of the challenge blocks, quilt blocks (theme blocks entered in show). There will be a raffle quilt, tables of craft items (shop by cash donation) and the first weekend of the show will have local vendors. If you would like to enter one of your quilts or have other questions, please check out our Facebook page Upper Country Quilts or email us at uppercountryquiltshow@gmail.com.

Other highlights in Cambridge during Hells Canyon Days (May 31 & June 1) include a car show, bulls & broncs rodeo, live concert and craft & food vendors. More details can be found at cambridgeidaho.com/community-events.
