Project Narrative Girls and Hijabs -Tell the believing women to lower their gaze andguard their private parts and not expose theiradornment . -Quran[24:31]

In middle East, women according to Quran should wear hijabs in their daily life. It is the way they protect women’s privacy.

Beside, there are plenty strict rules that women should obey, such as no physical contact, and most part of body should be covered.

And in social interaction, women should not appear in the living room when there are guests visiting their home.

The traditional way for women interaction Tarma - A kind of indirect window in Iraq. It provide a extremely private way for women to look outside but would not be seen in the same time. square tarma

Base on this tradition, I transfoemed it into my design.

How to create a space with both privacy and openness has become the biggest topic.

Girls in Iraq have been living under the pressure of war and men for a long time,

How can they be properly settled down after entering the shelter is the most important part.

Site Analysis Context Site The site is located in Madrid, Iraq. It is a tropical desert area with scarce annual rainfall.

Tigris flows through Iraq and is a sacred and indispensable existence for Iraq. The site is close to Tigris,which has a certain influence of the healing space for those traumatized girls.

Because it is adjacent to the river bank, the prevevtion of river flooding and the safety of children to the water must be taken into account in the design.

Site Composition The site faces Tigris in the southwest, and faces the main roads in the northeast.

The native palm trees on the site also provide the possibility of interacting with greenery for the site.

Layout Concept The public area ( sports center, school) is configured in the northeast of the main road nearby, making it more convenient to access the site, and at the same time, it can make some publi spaces which are open to the outside more accessible.

The residential area is arranged in a western position, relatively far from external activities, and has a barrier between trees and river.

Interaction space study The interaction space study started from the section when I studied the tarma. I turned the sections into 2D and transformed it into 3D again, and these are the result.

So I took some elements in these models, split level, slope and some small platform.

Final model The staggered wall creates an opening which is differeny from the general door, increases the fun of light and shadow and space experience.

Each unit has its own semi-outdoor public space and is connected to other units, so that activities can occur on this series of rings. In addition, each semi-outdoor space has deep eaves to resist the hot sun during the day in the tropical desert area.
