The community of Robbins, Ill. is located about 20 miles south of downtown Chicago and just slightly west of Blue Island. In 1970, the population of Robbins was at its peak with about 9,644 people living in the community and what made this community so special was that of those nearly 10,000 residents, 98 percent were black, according to the Encyclopedia of Chicago.
