'An Ode to MyAncestors'

'An Ode to MyAncestors'
As human beings we allhave our own story to tell and this is reflected not only through experience, butalso in the objects we collectthroughoutour life. These ‘items of remembrance’ may have no monetary value but are coveted memorabilia for the families who wrap and store their personal history within dusty attics forfuture generations to discover. This project explores the time, place and space of ancestral collections and connections. Working with historic family photographs I have used the meticulous process of hand-embroidery to reaffirm the importance of the stories which shape our lives. Each stitch represents a thought and dedication to my ancestors with each photograph becoming a ‘badge of honour’. The ceremonialdress represents the blank canvas which awaits to be threaded with my own unique chapterwithin my family history.
