POTATO PEELS Potato peel waste is a zero value by-product, which occurs in big amounts after industrial potato processing and can range from 15 to 40% of initial product mass, depending on the peeling method.

Food waste utilization causes great concern in food industry worldwide.

OUR WASTE

140 g potato peels 70 g paper clay 10 g glycerol 12 g gelatine 24 ml water

1. Peel the potatoes and leave them to dry for 2 days.

2. Cut up undyed waste paper and leave it to soak overnight (water +1 teaspoon of vinegar).

3. Squeeze out the excess water and blend the paper with 5 teaspoons of flour and a pinch of salt until you can model the dough.

4. Mix the waste with the paper clay.

5. Mix gelatine with water and glycerol at medium heat until it boils.

6. Add the binder to the waste-paper clay mixture.

7. Lay the mixture on baking paper and press it with a rolling pinuntil the desired thickness is achieved.

8. Let dry

DESI GN Take away packages are a part of our daily life. Thus, they are an intensive polluting element which can be hardly avoidable.

POTAKE SOLVES THIS ISSUE The life of take away packages is composed of two objects, which use as raw material the scarps of a staple of fast food:POTATOES! The peels of potatoes, along with a binder and a small percentage of recycled paper, creates a sheet of bio material.

Which is cuttable, pliable and compostable after use.

Take-away box A single layer of the potato material is cut into shape.

The layer is bent to close it. The slits in the material allow to close two sides of the box.

The other to sides, once plyed, are closed with the cuttlery, which functions as a handle.

Once used, the box can be composted.
