Part of a recent line of research about the urban form of contemporary Japan, this thesis work analyzes the case of Kyoto.
The aim is to understand how morphological and cultural evolutions of the city over the time, have been always affecting sociability.
The focus is on the two-way relationship between urban morphological changes and the metamorphosis in the lifestyle of those who live in the city, noting how much social life is the author of the formal change, but at the same time completely subordinate to the shape of the city itself.
An architectural intervention is proposed to reconnect the high-density urban environment, fragmented into small introverted units.
