A need of specific attention is determined by a delicate context which finds its main character in the strong presence of the Persian gardens and the historical centre of Yazd. Therefore, the designed urban district denotes features as of being high density and low rise which are fundamental in order to create a buffer zone to face the protected areas. The project holds together housings and public buildings able to provide services and facilities to the site and create hotspots within the sorroundings.

SYNTHESIS OF URBAN STRUCTURAL ELEMENTS

The contextual area was analysed through means of a multiscale observation of different aspects.

A synthesis of these features led to the identification of some elements recognisable as structural as they play a role in terms of mobility and connection, historic significance and liveliness and vibrancy. The direct influence exercised on the project site determines a first hierarchical differantiation within the area.

PERSPECTIVE SECTIONS

Placed in a strategic position, the cultural centre is an attractive corner of the site which establishes a relationship with the sorroundings.

Its multifunctionality and integration with the park allows to create a sense of urbanity as it creates a gathering point that targets a wide community.

AXONOMETRIC VIEW

The aim behind the housing blocks design was to provide affordable but high quality dwellings. The interiors are characterized by a thoughtful and economic use of the space. Different apartment typologies are designed in order to meet the needs of different family nuclei.

The apartments buildings are attached as to create internal private courtyards inspired by traditional construction displays that were able to guarantee shaded open spaces to respond the climatic and environmental characteristic.

In addition, the ground level is left as a public versatile floor in order to host facilities for the different users of the site.

The Urban Stitch of San Siro aims to create a connection between Lampugnano development and San Siro quartiere to dissolve socio-spatial and economic inequality. The project consists on a mixed functional program that includes a physical rehabilitation centre, three university departments, sports facilities, a cultural centre, a library, commercial units, co-wroking spaces, workshops and residential developments.

STRATEGY

The San Siro district is characterised by different social and urban discontinuities, but present a strong asset given by the presence of major sport facilities. The strategy therefore aims to the exploitation of its intrinsic potential for the creation of a city hotspot able to reactivate the sorroundings.

A scattered sport-based centre is designed on a hierarchical system of axes where different types of mobility modes are laid. The functions are connected through a green park which, being accessed through a public square, serves as the heart of the site promoting the health and the well being of the local community as well.

A nodal position in the designed area is occupied by the cultural centre. Above all, its own mixture of functions, which include a library, workshop spaces and an exhibition area, plays an active role in the attractiveness of this spot as it is able to gather a wide range of public.

In addition its importance is ehanced as it identifies the transitional space in between the axis system and the green core of the park. The building, open at the ground floor, underlies a piazza which finds its extension towards the park in an open-air theatre.

“Giudecca Reaction” is a project that aims to frame a system of interventions along the guidelines of Fulvio Caputo’s Fondamenta Novissima. It is aimed to create an articulated and homogeneous urban structure in which to experiment with new technical, economic, social and cultural methods within the historical fabric of the city. The ambition is to make the island an eco-sestiere: a space meant to improve the quality of residents lives contributing to halting the exodus of Venetians from the city by attracting new citizens.

PROJECT LAYERS

PRODUCTION

Life on the island of Giudecca can be ensured if an internal economy consisting of services and work spaces is created: this is to be achieved by redesigning the commercial plan, especially in the area of Sacca Fisola, and by creating new squeri directly in the water linked by a pathway.

CULTURE

The vast spaces of the island are openair theatres in which the lagoon acts as a backdrop. There is a frequent occasion on the island to talk about art, ideas, images: bringing a creative phase such as the academic study of the arts is both philological and revolutionary for the social economy of Giudecca.

HOUSING

In order to reverse the trend of an increasingly ageing population, it is necessary to improve life on the island with new services thus making Giudecca the place to want to live. It is sufficient to intervene on the existing with new rental models and create the conditions for market accessibility.

WATERFRONT

The spaces overlooking the southern lagoon are precious,, fragmented and varied. The challenge of connecting them into a unified fact takes into account the needs of the contemporaneity. A walk that gently approaches the water takes form with an unprecedented relationship.

CIRCULATION

Fondamenta Novissima allows crossaccessibility to the island of Giudecca, implementing and activating areas that are difficult to reach. This also requires a new public transport line. The project is an opportunity to offer a fully accessible space, overcoming architectural barriers.

EDEN

South-facing gardens are a wealth that can be shared, many are underused and abandoned spaces. Starting with the Eden Garden and the green spaces of Villa Herion, it is imagined to equip the green spaces for use as a vegetable garden, park and Sacca San Biagio as a photovoltaic park.

STRATEGY PROJECT DEVICES

The mixture of residences, productive and artisan activities and green spaces today generates an urban fabric that cannot always be considered to be in good condition, thus invalidating various types of attractiveness.

It is in these terms that the project intends to reason, giving a new future to this island steeped in the past, aiming to create a new living and welcoming space in order to create a new residential area, putting the touristic aspect that already permeates the remaining parts of the city in the background.

The natural and artificial environment of the island is redesigned and connected through the Fondamenta Novissima, which constitutes the main backbone of the project, forming an integrated route on the southern side of the island.

Housing spaces are reorganised according to a reconversion of existing and underused buildings to guarantee an improvement of the life quality and the minimisation of energy consumption.

The energy supply is provided through the installation of a photovoltaic park and a new intangible infrastructure, including waste collection and a new sewage system.

Overview

Villa Adriana is one of the most extraordinary historical realities in the world. As Unesco World Heritage Site since 1999, it lays the foundation for a rich and still open debate on the relationship between architecture and archeology. In these terms, the creation of a landscape arrangement, to be realized in the so-called Unesco Buffer Zone between the fence of the Villa site and the Aniene River, aimed at regenerating the original sense of the places that gave life to the idea of the Hadrian’s Palace.

The relation between architecture and the archaelogical presences, still again after its originating act, is the object of reflection.

The confrontation is, in the first place, with the historical and natural landscape of the Villa, from which new elements are structured, and, secondly, with those mnemonic places of the Grande Villa Adriana where archaeology is a generative theme for a new landscape configuration to be elaborated on the basis of the “Hadrianic memories”.

The design of the incipit of the path leading to the Villa complex retraces the original layout of the entrance path opening a dialogue with the characteristic natural and agricoltural landscape. The examples of Villa Gregoriana, Villa D’Este, and Villa Adriana have contributed to a particular way of conceiving the landscape architecture as tool to create a scenography, following, in this case, the concept of Natura Naturans.

Overview

The extension of the BSZ Nord campus is a comprehensive development that reorganizes and enhances the educational environment including new building volumes strategically positioned around the existing structures to define a clear spatial framework.

At the heart of the project lies a landscape concept that transforms the open spaces into multifunctional zones, each tailored to specific uses while collectively reinforcing the identity of the campus. The layout of the buildings creates a sequence of open zones - courtyards, gardens, and sports areasdesigned to support diverse uses and accommodate various user groups. Topography is used creatively to shape spaces like the green amphitheatre, fostering interaction and informal use.

Together, these outdoor spaces are integral to the campus: they offer ecological function, spatial clarity and social activation, creating a resilient and dynamic learning environment that extends beyond the classroom.

The BSZ Nord campus is conceived as a park-like setting where buildings are seamlessly integrated into the landscape, forming a cohesive whole. The design adapts to existing site conditions, preserving urban gardens and blending with the natural surroundings. Open spaces are closely connected to the architecture, creating a fluid transition between indoors and outdoors and reflecting the diverse landscapes of Wismar - coast, city and wetlands. Four distinct green zones define the campus:

Located at the campus entry, this space welcomes students and visitors under a circular canopy that preserves existing trees. Its permeable surface allows flexible use for daily campus activities and informal gatherings.

The ecological heart of the campus, this sunken area collects rainwater and supports wetland vegetation. Surrounded by seating, play zones, and shaded dining areas, it serves as a central social and recreational space.

Inspired by coastal dunes, this area uses the site’s slope to create a green ramp and shaded resting zones. A sunken multi-sports field doubles as a dynamic activity space and climateadaptive water management feature.

Extending the existing urban gardens to the north, this space supports outdoor learning and ecological engagement for students and staff, blending nature with the educational setting.
