Most non-hunting landowners are more than willing to let someone hunt their property, as long as that person is respectful and is sure to adhere to safe hunting practices. Big day for LCN hitter Dunford hits for cycle in Crusaders’ 10-6 victory L’Anse Creuse North softball coach Mark Mignot wasn’t going to put up the stop sign at second base for Ashley Dunford. After Dunford smacked a ball to the right field fence, she motored around second and slid safely into third. The triple completed her hitting for the cycle Thursday afternoon. “There was no way I was holding her up at second,” said Mignot, whose Crusaders beat WarrenMott 10-6 in a MAC Blue Division game. “When she
hit it to wall I was sending her.” Dunford, who drove in four and scored four runs, is the first player to hit for the cycle in the 13 seasons Mignot has coached at LCN. The junior shortstop doubled in the first, singled in the second and homered in the third. “She didn’t know,” Mignot said. “When the play ended I told her and she looked surprised.” Marisa Provencher (two RBIs) and Monica Michelski (double, two runs) each had two hits for LCN (1-0 MAC Blue, 23 overall).
