November 2015 Dear Parent/Carer Year 11 Trial Examinations 2015 Trial examinations for all Year 11 students begin on Tuesday 8th DECEMBER 2015 and finish on Thursday 17th DECEMBER 2015. Please see overleaf for the timetable. A copy is available on the Chew Valley School website at http://www.chewvalleyschool.co.uk/Students/Exam-and-CCA-Schedules/. Students will be writing a revision timetable in school towards the end of November. This will provide a structure for their revision. Please ensure that the timetable is stuck in a prominent position in your home! From the end of November teachers will be setting revision homework. Our advice to students is to complete two hours of revision per night. During the trial examination period, students will attend school in uniform each day as usual up to Thursday 18th December; there is no “study leave”. Students will either be taking an exam or will be in their normal timetabled lessons for taught revision or quiet, supervised study. However, Friday 18th December is set aside for catch-up sessions for any missed exams. Only students involved in these sessions should attend on Friday 18th December. Please ensure that students are aware that starting times of exams are exactly that: the start time. The students are expected to be at their exam venue well before the exam is due to start. Students must also ensure that they have sufficient pens, pencils, equipment etc. Please check that calculator batteries are replaced and that specific equipment such as protractors etc. are brought from home. We cannot provide any spare equipment. An examination requirement is that all writing equipment is kept in a transparent container, so please ensure that your son/daughter is equipped with either a transparent pencil case or a plastic bag. Mobile phones/electronic devices/MP3 players are not permitted near examination rooms under any circumstances. If, for whatever reason, your son/daughter is unable to attend an examination, please notify school immediately by either phoning 01275 334225 or via email exams@chewvalleyschool.co.uk. We expect our students to perform to the best of their ability and strive to set and maintain high standards. Trial examinations are part of this important preparation process. Following trial exams a full report will be published in the Insight Parent Portal by Friday 22rd January. You will be notified by SMS text message and/or email when the report is published. You will then have the opportunity to meet with staff at Parents’ Evening on Thursday 4th February. This will provide the forum for discussing strategies to help your son/daughter achieve the best possible grades in the summer. Yours sincerely,

Miss A Hellier
