1.0 Chevron Parquet Floors 1.1 Wood Wood is a material that absorbs and emits moisture from the materials around and moves with the seasons with different humidity. It swells in high humidity and shrinks in low humidity.

1.2 Appearence Wood is a natural product with an appearence that varies from plank to plank. Chevron Parquet does not warranty against these natural variations. But isn't that what makes it so beautiful!? *Please note that if you are not satisfied with your flooring prior to installation, please contact Chevron Parquet as soon as possible. Do not install flooring deemed to be unacceptable.

1.3 Production Our floors are manufactured in accordance with industry accepted standards.

1.4 Environment As all of our products is created by mother nature, we respect our planet earth. As a tree cuts down, another one will be planted.

2.0 Storing of packages and quality inspection The packages must be stored unopened and loosely stacked in the room which must be dried and warm with a relative humidity (RH) of 30-60% and a temperature of + 20-25 C°. With either higher or lower numbers, some slight movement/warping and gaps can be expected. Consider these recommendations throughout the whole process from storing to installing.

The packages must remain in a room temperature equal to the installation room temperature for two-three days before the installation. Open the packages only when you are about to begin the installation, and only use a few packages at a time. *To obtain a floor as evenly colored as possible, alternate the planks from different packages while installing the floor.

Before installation, check the planks under proper lighting. If product defects appear, do not install the floor.

Chevron Parquet exempt from liability in complaints where the floor have been installed on the sub-floor without quality inspection.

3.0 Sub-floor Note that the sub-floor must be level. When installing a Chevron Parquet floor, the greatest subfloor height difference allowed is 3mm -/+ per 3 meter.

3.1 Allowed sub-floors Wood Test wooden substructures and wooden flooring for moisture content using a "pin type moisture meter", take a minimum of five sub-floor readings per room (four corners + the middle), please ensure a minimum of 20 readings per 100 sqm. Calculate the average and ensure the average sub-floor moisture content is 12% or less.

Concrete Concrete slabs should be of high compressive strenght, minimum 3000 psi, and engineered to prevent ground water permeation. Our engineered flooring can be installed on, above or below grade. Additionally, the Chevron Parquet products can be installed over suspended concrete floors with a minimum thickness of 50 mm; the construction must be structurally sound. Test concrete subfloors using the “Calcium Chloride Moisture Test�, do not install flooring if the Moisture Vapor Emission Rate exceeds 1.35 kg. per 100m2. Note this test is not suitable for testing the MC of light weight concrete. Light weight concrete is suitable for floating installations only, do not attempt to glue down our flooring over light weight concrete.

Existing hardwood flooring When installing any new hardwood flooring over directly over old wood or strip floors, sand any high spots. Re-nail the old floor to reduce any squeaks or loose boards. - For Floating or Glue Down installations the orientation of the floor can be the same as the original wood floor. The moisture content of the old floor should not exceed 12%.

Resilient tile, resilient sheet vinly Ensure that the resilient tile or sheet vinyl is well bonded to the subfloor, remove any loose tiles or cut out any sections where the adhesion of the sheet vinyl to the subfloor is compromised. Note that in the case of glue down installations of hardwood over resilient tiles or resilient sheet vinyl; Chevron Parquet cannot accept responsibility for delamination of the resilient tile or resilient sheet vinyl from the subfloor. When in doubt concerning the integrity or nature of the existing resilient floor, use a floating installation (cannot be done with patters floors). Clean the flooring to ensure there is no contaminant on the surface that will interfere with the bonding. Please consult with your adhesive supplier to ensure that the proper adhesive is being used to bond to the resilient surface in question.

4.0 Relative Humidity RH Recommendations:

Room temperature: 20-25 degree Celsius.

Room humidity: 30-60% RH. Concrete moisture: Max. 85% RH when a vapour barrier is used. Be aware of any restrictions in the national standard requirements.

Humidity in joints/beams: 10% Humidity in plywood: 8-9.5%

5.0 Underfloor heating *The Swedish Flooring Trade Association, GBR, Wooden floors over underfloor heating (Edition 1:2005)

It is possible to have under floor heating together with a Chevron Parquet floor. It is just cruisiual to follow our guidelines below. A wooden floor shall always be installed under controlled conditions, this means with a room temperature of approximately 20°C (+ 2°C) and a relative humidity between 30 and 60% RH. As such that the underfloor heating need not be in operation as long as the room temperature and atmospheric humidity are kept within these limits.

5.1 Construction of the floor Solid wooden floors, however, always have a greater tendency to move, regardless of whether or not the floor is installed over underfloor heating. The size of the gaps, which develop, depends largely on the breadth of the block or plank. Narrow blocks give a small gap, and broad planks give large gaps, but the underfloor heating in itself does not cause the gaps to become larger. You should expect shrinkage of about 1% of the width of the board under (30 – 60%) conditions. However, be prepared for the fact that individual planks of a solid wooden floor can always move more or less. On solid small parquet blocks, the gaps that develop are very small.

Multi layer wooden floors (engineered) can also develop gaps, but the construction of the floor makes these very small. The gaps arise between planks and not between blocks.

5.2 Two types of underfloor heating In a hydronic system, the heating water is circulated in pipes, which are installed at suitable distances beneath the floor in the room from which heating is to be provided. The water temperature is varied depending on the floor construction and on the heating requirement in the room. In general, the maximum supply water temperature should be about 50°C. The normal supply temperature is between 30 and 40°C. When the water has circulated through the pipes, the temperature has decreased slightly. The extent of this decrease depends on the sub floor insulation, ventilation, windows etc. The water can be heated with various heat sources such as a heat pump, electricity, oil, solar energy etc.

In an electrical system, an electric current is sent through a conductor. Heating cables are made of a conductive material with a high resistivity and this produces heat. The temperature in the floor is then regulated with the help of a thermostat. Heating cables or so-called heating foils are available with a constant or a selfregulating effect.

Underfloor heating can be used in principle on all types of sub floors, but it is important to choose an underfloor heating system that is adapted to the sub floor and the wooden-floor construction.

5.3 Surface A Chevron Parquet floor allow a maximum surface temperature of 27°C. In most cases, such a high surface temperature will be needed only in exceptional cases during cold and dry periods, but experience says that during this period, the relative humidity decreases drastically.

5.4 Moisture Protection If a wooden floor is installed over underfloor heating there shall always be a vapour barrier in the construction as close to the wooden floor as possible. The floor must always be protected from moisture from the sub floor.

This applies as soon as moisture is suspected or when it is known that the relative humidity (RH) in the sub floor is higher than 60% RH. Moisture protection in the form of a vapour barrier is compulsory when the sub floor consists of a floor on the ground, light concrete beams, a floor above a permanently warm or humid premises, e.g. a boiler room, a wash house or the like, warm floors (underfloor heating) or a joisted floor over a ventilated crawl space foundation. Note that the vapour barrier is always placed under any rag felt or impact sound damping floor covering. A vapour barrier shall be used under solid wooden floors if it suspected that the sub floor might transport moisture, e.g. a slab on the ground.

Whether you have under floor heating or not, it is important to ensure that the humidity of the concrete does not exceed 85% RH. If the heating coils are embedded in the concrete, the floor heating should be switched on after at least 30 days when the concrete has hardened.

5.5 General information Wooden floors: The maximum permitted surface temperature is 27°C. This also applies under rugs and furniture. Wooden floors with a multi layer construction and a surface layer of Beechwood or Maplewood shall not be installed over underfloor heating. There must be no air gap between the underfloor heating and the wooden floor. Wooden floors shall always be protected against underlying moisture with either a damp proof membrane or a vapour barrier. The heating system shall be designed so that it gives a very uniform surface temperature over the whole floor area.

Sub floors: The sub floor shall be free from dirt, dust and loose particles. When a board material is installed, the evenness of the sub floor shall conform to the manufacturer's requirements. Wooden beams and secondary spaced boarding shall have a moisture ratio not exceeding 10%. Wooden-based board materials, MDF, particleboards and plywood boards shall have a moisture ratio not exceeding 9.5%. Secondary spaced boarding placed on top of a wooden joisted floor with a centre distance of 600 mm shall have a thickness of at least 28 mm. Old flooring materials such as plastic and linoleum coverings should be removed before an underfloor heating system is installed. Note that when old carpets are removed, the acoustic damping may be affected. Consideration shall be given to the underlying rooms with regard to the need for acoustic damping.

5.6 After Installation Test the system before installation to make sure that there are no leaks and that the heating system works as it should. During the first week, the flow temperature should not exceed 25 degree celcius. After one week, it may increase by max 5 degree celcius every other day, until the required surface temperature has been reached. If the temperature is raised to quickly, the floor will warp.

6.0 Make it successfull Keep in mind, a wooden floor will change its character along the years, but thats what we love. It is a living material the gets more beautiful as its age.
