Timbertots: Flower Fun May 18, 10-11 a.m., 1-2 p.m. Big Creek Park Join Nora the Explorer to stop and smell the flowers. Held mostly outdoors, weather permitting, please dress accordingly. Program is designed for the specified age group of 3-5 years old (with adult); older or younger siblings will not be considered registered participants. Registration required.

Jungle Bird Canoe Safari May 19, 9-11 a.m. Eldon Russell Park Join International Migratory Bird Day observance celebrating the return of migratory songbirds from the Latin American Tropics. See sandpipers, vireos, flycatchers, cuckoos, thrushes, orioles, Rose-breasted Grosbeaks, Indigo Buntings and warblers including the famed Golden Swamp Warbler. Bring canoe or kayak; a limited number of park canoes will be available for use. Registration May 12-18.

Trail Horse Nature Challenge May 19, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Headwaters Park A series of natural trail obstacles and nature questions along park trails. Awards in youth and adult divisions. Helmets required.

Participants trailer their horses to Headwaters Park’s Route 608 trailer parking area to meet a naturalist and volunteers. Anticipate hills, gravel, bridge and stream crossings on this trail. Assigned departure times in order of registration; riders will ride out individually or in pairs at a leisurely pace since time is not a factor in this event. Bring a shovel to clean up after your horse in the parking lot. Indicate if intending to cancel in consideration for the waiting list. Registration required.

Roots of American Music in Concert May 19, 7-9 p.m. Big Creek Park Enjoy four musicians from Roots of American Music performing a variety of music showcasing our American roots, from African music to blues to rock and roll. Expect many traditional instruments including fiddle, pennywhistle, acoustic and slide guitars, and bass. Refreshments served. Held indoors in the Cherry Room if inclement weather.

Annual Spring Bird Walk Series May 20, 7:30-9:30 a.m. Swine Creek Reservation This walk is the last of six held in April and May to participate in a Greater Cleveland tradition since 1933. It’s an opportunity to see a wide variety of birds during spring migration, each walk at a different park. Seasoned bird watchers assist novices of all ages with

observation and identification. Walks held rain or shine, except for thunderstorms and/or high winds. Dress for weather. Bring binoculars and bird guide. Partially wheelchair/stroller accessible.

Coffee with the Birds May 20, 10-11:30 a.m. Swine Creek Reservation Join a naturalist for an "inside" look at bird watching and enjoy sitting around our bird feeding station indoors with beverages and snacks. Drop in anytime during program hours.

Happy Hounds on a Hike May 22, 6:30-8 p.m. Frohring Meadows Held outdoors, please dress for the weather. Bring dog towels, a water bowl, poop scoop and bags for dog clean-up. Only one dog per handler: must be able to fully control dog, kept on leash at all times (8 feet max). Dogs must be non-aggressive to people and other dogs; if altercations or incidents occur, or dog(s) exhibit aggressive behavior or excessive barking, owner(s) of problematic dog(s) will be asked to leave. Registration required.
