Week – May 6-12, 2025

THANK YOU CHC

Receiving such beautiful flowers certainly made my day brighter. I truly appreciate your thoughtfulness. I also want to thank everyone for their support, encouragement, and prayers during my recovery.

Division St. has some new visitors! Simba and Nala (affectionately named by Dr. Ejaz) have taken up residence and are nesting outside of one of the employee entrances to S. Division. The pair have been guarding their nest for the last three weeks. Nala has laid several eggs that she is now protecting. Dr. Ejaz makes sure they are well looked after. We are all excited to see some little goslings arrive!

Our School-Based Health Center staff and Outreach team had a great time recently at Wicomico High School’s Family Game Night. Pictured here are Elisha Bullock (CAC), Bridgette Williams (HOP), and Stacie Ennis (SBHC Front Office MA).

Our Outreach team was out in the community recently, connecting with folks at the Hispano Latino Church. Pictured here are Miriam Machuca (bilingual community health worker) and Gladys Rivera (interpreter).

Enhancing Our Cybersecurity Measures

In our continuous effort to safeguard patient and employee data, we are enhancing our cybersecurity protocols by implementing DNS filtering. This proactive measure aims to block access to non-business-related websites that pose security risks. Sites such as personal email, shopping, and news portals, while seemingly harmless, can often serve as entry points for security threats.

To ensure our systems remain secure, these sites will be restricted on company computers. If you encounter a blocked site that you believe is essential for your work, you can request access through a link provided on the block page.

Our IT team will review these requests to ensure they align with our security policies and business needs.

For personal browsing and email, we recommend using your smartphone during scheduled breaks. If cellular service is limited, you can connect to CHC-WiFi, a secure network for personal devices. We appreciate your cooperation in maintaining the security of our systems and ensuring uninterrupted patient care. If you have any questions, please reach out to the IT team.

Our New Secure Wireless Network for Personal and Bring Your Own Devices (BYOD)

We are excited to announce the launch of CHC-WiFi, our new wireless network designed for BYOD and personal devices. This network enhances security by isolating devices from other users, ensuring a safer browsing experience. Joining CHC-WiFi is simple no password is required, just a quick pop-up to agree to the terms of use.

As part of this transition, the old CHC-GUEST network will be phased out. To further improve your connectivity experience, we will soon provide information on how to

A Guide to Protecting PHI

Hold Your Tongue

✓When discussing protected health information (PHI) consider your surroundings and speak quietly.

✓If you overhear or inadvertently come across PHI, be discreet and protective of this information.

Is Your PHI Showing?

 Don’t leave PHI unattended at your desk.

 Don’t leave PHI visible on your computer screen.

 Lock your computer screen when leaving the area.

 At the end of the day, lock all printed materials in a drawer or file, and log off your computer.

Have You Done a Double Check?

HIPPA regulations require us to safeguard protected health information

register your device on CHCWiFi. This registration will allow your device to create a certificate, enabling you to stay connected for longer periods without needing to agree to the terms of use daily.

We appreciate your cooperation in making this transition smooth and secure. Stay tuned for more details on how to register your device!

✓ DOUBLE CHECK the email address, postal address, and fax number before you transmit PHI.

✓ DOUBLE CHECK that you’re sending to the right person and that all the information being sent belongs to that person.

Wrong Address? Oh My!

If you accidently transmit PHI to the wrong address:

 Immediately contact the incorrect addressee and have the PHI destroyed or returned.

 Report any HIPAA violation to the Corporate Compliance Officer.

 Fill out an Incident Report.

For any questions contact the Corporate Compliance Officer, Shelby Tapman, at stapman@chesapeakehc.org or ext. 1632.

Nourish Your Mind: Supporting Mental Well-Being

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to recognize the importance of caring for our emotional and psychological well-being. Just like we visit the doctor for physical checkups, taking care of our mental health is an essential part of overall wellness.

Remember that we have dedicated mental health therapists at Chesapeake Health Care who offer compassionate and expert support. Whether you’re navigating stress, anxiety, grief, or just need someone to talk to, help is here when you need it.

Quick Tips to Boost Your Mental Wellness:

 Move your body: Even a short daily walk or gentle stretching can help release mood-boosting endorphins.

 Unplug to recharge: Try turning off screens 30 minutes before bedtime to help your mind wind down.

Mindful Minute: Grounding in the Present

Here’s a quick exercise you can try anytime you feel overwhelmed:

5-4-3-2-1 Technique

Take a deep breath and try to notice:

✓ 5 things you can see

✓ 4 things you can touch

✓ 3 things you can hear

✓ 2 things you can smell

✓ 1 thing you can taste

By engaging your senses in this way, the 5-43-2-1 technique helps to redirect your focus away from anxious thoughts and back to the present moment, promoting a sense of calm and grounding.

 Stay connected: Reach out to a friend, coworker, or loved one. A quick chat can brighten your day.

 Write it out: Journal every day, even for just five minutes. Write about your day, your thoughts, or a single moment of gratitude.

 Practice gratitude: Each evening, list three things you’re thankful for. It’s a powerful habit that can shift your mindset over time.

Taking even small steps toward mental wellness can make a big difference. That might mean prioritizing sleep, spending time outdoors, or talking to someone you trust. Reaching out for support is a sign of strength not weakness.

Whether you are struggling with your mental health or simply want to learn more about it, remember that “Your mental health is just as important as your physical health.”
