Cards By Cardies for Cardies

It may not make the nightly news, but we know there’s a whole lot of rock-solid love flying across this country: Cardies showing kindness and offering comfort through cards. Another very hopeful sign we see is the increasing number of card messages coming straight from the hearts in our Cardie Community.

It’s through penned notes, emails, and comments on the Cardie Newsletter that Cardies’ powerful words reach us, then we turn around and ask to publish them as card messages. The Cardies are always surprised and delighted to learn that they’ve become a “Contributing Cardie,” and they express their pride and pleasure in such interesting and eloquent ways that we thought you might enjoy reading three reactions to their new designs.

We first published a message by Barri Goldfarb on Passages design 94161. Her beautiful sentiment arrrived in an email she sent in response to a Cardie Newsletter following the tragic October 7, 2023, attack on Israel’s kibbutz communities. Now a Cardie-favorite, that card reads, “Thanks for your kind words. They landed softly on my heavy heart.”

We heard from this wise one regularly after that and, as I explained to Barri a few months ago, “I’ve always loved how you sign your emails — “Love and kindness will heal this world” — and felt it would make a wonderful card message. So when I saw the hope rock image, I thought, ‘That’s a perfect match!’” She wrote right back, “Beautiful. I love it. I want to send it to everyone I know. I used to paint kindness rocks with my elementary school expressive arts therapy students, and we’d plant them in the school garden. Hope is exactly what we need to hold onto now. Let’s dedicate this new card to the people who are continuing spreading the light.”

Mary Jo Hansen

The new Anniversary-to-Couple card to the left makes Mary Jo Hansen’s fourth Cardthartic card. After a career in the counseling field, a few years ago she shifted to focus on her lifelong passion for writing, and began sending potential messages to us. When we sent her the proposed design, she replied, “What a delightful surprise!! The photo is warm, deep, reflective ... I love that it has been paired with my verse. For a dedication I would like, ‘For Dick and Mary Akers’ and, again, my appreciation for making this wonderful process happen.”

Penny Schiller brought our Meanings of Life pussywillow card into being, and has more card ideas than we’ll be able to publish in a lifetime. So when we sent her the proposed condolence card to the left featuring her lovely message, we wrote, “This may not be much of a surprise because you are just that talented, loving, and inspiring! We love this, Pens, thank you. If you do, too, would you like to dedicate it to someone?” She replied with, “Beautiful! And I love the simplicity! The dedication ...... it’s for my mom, Rose. She would have loved this card as much as I do! I love the dragonfly on the tulip! Thank you for making my voice heard and my heart full.”

Birthdays do have a way of sneaking up on us. Wishing You a Happy One! BD #LR626 blessings from above May yours feel most bountiful today. Happy Birthday BD #LR627

may peace find you and soothe you.

LITTLE REMINDERS

Working Like a Dog!

On page two you met three great community members who have a wonderful way with words. Here meet Jessica Swaim , a true linguaphile (noun: a person who loves language and words; interested in learning several languages or simply nerding out about words in general.)

Truth be told, I call her a godsend. Within a week in March, the poet and author of three very fun books on one of our favorite subjects — dogs! — jumped in and wrote all three new Meanings of Life designs you see below along with six new Little Reminders designs to be released in summer and fall! A Contributing Cardie who works like a dog, Jessica is much admired and appreciated around here.

The lifelong Cardie introduced herself in the fall of 2023, sharing that she’d discovered Cardthartic two years before, in her Parker, Colorado, neighborhood. “My all-time favorite greenhouse, Tagawa Gardens , is bursting with beautiful botanicals, wild bird seed, assorted gifts for home and garden, and all sorts of other things, including Cardthartic cards.”

She explained that she was a professional writer, yet, “I had never considered trying to write card verses until someone I love very much got cancer. Hanging out in hospital gift shops, I studied the perfect marriage of words and images that make Cardthartic cards so special and considered how little cost and effort it takes to send a just-right card to someone, yet what a profound difference that small kindness can make in a person’s day. I thought the only thing as gratifying as receiving such a card must be having a hand in creating one, and proposed a few things I’d written.” In January of 2024, we were honored to publish her first card — the poignant Passages 94158 which reads, “When they’ve gone, we look for them everywhere ... and everywhere is where we find them.”

In February of ‘25, Jessica let us know she’d love to write more if we would care to send her potential images and/or Meanings of Life art. And write she did! As I shared with her in late March, “It’s been a rough and tumble few months here, Jessica, so I cannot begin to say how much your involvement means to me/Cardthartic on so many levels. The support, your fun attitude and collaborative style are just icing on your cake of creative writing talent. Thank you very much.” Her reply was pure Jessica. “Aw, shucks, this feels like play to me!”

watering cans What a wonderful metaphor for the beauty of true friends. In the garden of give and take, at times we’re the water and at others the seedling, taking turns nourishing each other to grow and flower.

To you, and another long season of friendship. Happy Birthday

rocking horses

As kids, we loved riding these sweet, sturdy steeds with their soothing rhythm. There were none of life’s twists and turns or rough terrain. We’d simply trust, hang on, and enjoy the ride.

Keep rocking and rolling! Happy Birthday

birdbaths

Birds sit, sip, dip, sing, and socialize there together through every season under the same infinite sky for one simply beautiful reason ... they need each other to thrive!

How I wish we were perched side-by-side today.
