The Headteacher Welcome from
Welcome to Chertsey High School!
I am hugely proud to be Headteacher of this vibrant community, one which embraces the traditional - we have the highest expectations of behaviour, respect and academic success - yet looks to the future through continuing research and development, allowing our students to face a bright and exciting future with confidence.
We hope that once you have read this prospectus you will be convinced that coming here will be the start of a very special time in your child’s education. Choosing the right secondary school is a highly important decision. You obviously want your child to be happy and successful, so you need to feel confident that Chertsey High School will provide a creative and challenging environment where this will be achieved.
My vision for the school is simple: I want to lead a school where everyone is happy, stimulated, and safe. I want to lead a school where everyone feels welcome and worthwhile, and where everyone has a purpose.
........

And finally, I want to lead a school where our children’s minds are alive with knowledge, they feel determination in their very bones, and their hearts are full of love.
This prospectus can offer only a flavour of our wonderful school; more detailed information is available on our website. We look forward to meeting you at our Open Evening or on an individual visit – a very warm welcome awaits you.

Pillars Our

We aim to deliver our mission through the following three pillars:
The Accessible Curriculum
We aim to provide an exciting, flexible curriculum that fosters a lifelong love of learning and prepares students for the future. It is knowledge-rich, adaptive, and responsive to individual needs, helping all learners thrive.

Careers and Technology
Technology is key to preparing students for future careers. From next year, all Year 7 students will receive an iPad to support learning across subjects, build digital literacy, and promote independent study. This approach fosters creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking; essential skills for success in the modern world.
Anchor Organisation
We serve children and families in Chertsey and Addlestone, working closely with families, local organisations, and the wider education sector to support community wellbeing. We’re committed to preparing young people for their futures and empowering them to positively impact their community.
Our attendance rates place us in the top 10% nationally, reflecting the fact that our students are happy, motivated, and thrive under high expectations.

behaviour attendance &
We expect our students to be ready, respectful and safe.
These principles are non-negotiable and apply at all times: in lessons, around the school, and in the wider community. They are not a list of rules, but a clear framework that guides students and staff to make the right decisions and take responsibility for their actions
Our behaviour system is built to uphold these standards. Positive behaviour is rewarded consistently and students are celebrated regularly. Poor behaviour is addressed immediately through clear consequences, including same-day detentions. We do not tolerate disruption. Every student has the right to learn, and we will work closely with parents to ensure that happens. Our behaviour policy can be found here.
Attendance is a key part of this culture. Our rates place us in the top 10% nationally, reflecting the fact that our students are happy, motivated, and thrive under high expectations. Those with attendance below 90% are significantly less likely to achieve strong GCSE outcomes. We make no apology for expecting excellent attendance from every child.
excellence academic

Our curriculum is designed to challenge, inspire, and prepare students for success in a rapidly changing world.
Students benefit from five hours of specialist teaching each day, plus a focused morning tutorial that supports personal growth, academic focus, and a sense of belonging. We offer a broad curriculum for as long as possible, with a wide range of subjects in Key Stage 3.
Students will study English, Maths, Science, French or Spanish, Computing, History, Geography, Citizenship, RE, a range of Technology subjects, Art, Drama, Music and PE giving them a varied and stimulating daily diet of lessons and experiences.
This breadth continues into Key Stage 4, where students are guided to make informed choices that reflect their strengths and aspirations. Our students consistently achieve outcomes above national averages.
The school strives hard to create a positive, caring learning culture whilst also giving excellent support and structure to their students

Extra-Curricular
Beyond the classroom, our enrichment programme offers wide-ranging opportunities helping students develop confidence, creativity, and character. From national STEM events to our choir performing live on stage at Wembley Arena, these opportunities are open to all and form a key part of our commitment to personal development and preparedness for life.
Homework
Homework is designed to deepen learning and build independence, helping students develop strong study habits and reinforce classroom teaching. It is set online via Satchel One, allowing parents to monitor tasks and support their child’s progress. For students who find it difficult to complete at home, Homework Club offers a quiet, structured space.
Transition

We take great care to ensure a smooth, personalised transition for every student. A senior leader meets with primary staff to understand each child’s strengths, needs, and what helps them thrive. Students visit us, and we visit them, building confidence ahead of September. Strong links with local primary schools help us tailor support and make every child feel known from day one.

Students Supporting
Pastoral care is a significant strength of the School and every teacher has a pastoral role.
All students belong to a tutor group, organised by year. Tutors are the first point of contact for parents and oversee students’ personal and academic welfare through daily check-ins and tutor periods. They also play a key role in delivering our PSHE programme and promoting our values of being ready, respectful, and safe.
Each year group is supported by a Head of Year and a non-teaching Year Group Co-Ordinator, who work together to coordinate pastoral care. Our House system adds a layer of positive competition, with six houses named after individuals who embody our school values. Each year group includes one tutor group per house.
A distinctive feature of our pastoral support is The Lighthouse, which offers targeted interventions such as counselling and emotional literacy support, and plays an active role in safeguarding.

classroom beyond the

We recognise that learning doesn't stop at the school gates; at Chertsey High School, we welcome learning beyond borders.
Trips
Our trips and visits enrich students’ education and support their holistic development. Each experience is designed to complement classroom learning through real-world context and hands-on engagement. Recent trips include local visits to charities and schools, rewards trips celebrating student success, and international experiences such as department visits to Barcelona and our ski trip.
Rewards & House System
Each child is placed in a house and earns house points for their positive behaviours. Each half term, students celebrate success through rewards like positive points, emails home, certificates, and reward trips, reinforcing our values of knowledge, determination, and love.

Extra-curricular
Beyond the classroom, our enrichment programme offers diverse opportunities that build confidence, creativity, and character. From national STEM events to our choir performing live at Wembley Arena, these experiences are open to all and reflect our commitment to personal development and prepareness for life. Students can also learn an instrument through a range of peripatetic lessons. We expect every student to take part in at least one extra-curricular activity.
Partnerships
Chertsey High School is proud to be part of the Bourne Education Trust (BET) and works closely with local schools across all phases to shape a curriculum suited to our community. We also partner with several teacher training providers to offer an excellent start for early career teachers. In some cases, we collaborate with Surrey’s school improvement service, SAfE, to provide support where needed.
Community
We take an outward-looking approach to understand and respond to the needs of our wider community, working to overcome barriers and embrace opportunities. We believe that strong partnerships between school, parents, and the community are key to supporting students’ health, well-being, and learning.

Inclusion
We are proud to be a school with a broad demographic. Children are supported through high-quality, first-wave teaching delivered by their classroom teacher, who holds full responsibility for adapting learning to meet the needs of every student. If you would like to discuss your child’s needs with our SENDCo, click here.
Uniform
We are proud of our school and expect students to wear their uniform with pride both in and outside of school. We enforce this consistently and unapologetically. A culture of uniformity allows students to focus on what truly matters: their learning, their character, and their contribution. Self-expression belongs in their ideas, words, and actions, not in their clothing.
By requiring all pupils to wear the same low-cost uniform, we remove pressure on families to purchase expensive fashion items and trends. This ensures that no child is made to feel lesser or superior based on appearance.
