The Headteacher Welcome from
Welcome to Chertsey High School!
I am hugely proud to be Headteacher of this vibrant community, one which embraces the traditional - we have the highest expectations of behaviour, respect and academic success - yet looks to the future through continuing research and development, allowing our students to face a bright and exciting future with confidence.

Choosing the right secondary school is a highly important decision. You obviously want your child to be happy and successful, so you need to feel confident that Chertsey High School will provide a creative and challenging environment where this will be achieved.
My vision for the school is simple: I want to lead a school where everyone is happy, stimulated, and safe I want to lead a school where everyone feels welcome and worthwhile, and where everyone has a purpose. And finally, I want to lead a school where our children’s minds are alive with knowledge, they feel determination in their very bones, and their hearts are full of love.

Our

Knowledge, Determination, and Love form the bedrock of our core values, guiding every aspect of our educational philosophy and community.
Knowledge is the key to empowering our students with the tools they need to succeed in an ever-changing world. We strive to foster a love for learning, encouraging curiosity and critical thinking. Determination is the driving force behind overcoming challenges and reaching one's full potential. We support and motivate our students to persist in their pursuits and develop a strong work ethic. Love is at the heart of our school's culture, creating a nurturing and inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and supported. We believe that by embodying these values, we can help shape compassionate, knowledgeable, and resilient individuals who will positively impact their communities and beyond.

Aims Our

We aim to deliver our values, realise our vision and achieve our goal by:

Principles Behaviour
We want our students to be ready, respectful or safe.
These principles encompass how we expect students to behave in everything they do. Rather than a list of rules, they guide students and staff to make the right decisions for their behaviour. Our consequence and rewards system is an integral part of reinforcing these principles. Positive behaviours are rewarded through various means, such as verbal praise, house points, certificates, celebration assemblies, trips and special privileges. Staff will issue positives at the end of each lesson to reward the learning behaviours we expect.
Conversely, inappropriate behaviours are addressed through a series of consequences that are designed to help students understand the impact of their actions and learn from their mistakes. These range from a verbal warning, communication home, same day detentions or a loss of social time and isolation. Failure to attend detentions will result in an escalation of consequences. Detentions take place on the same day so that behaviours can be addressed using our restorative approach, and students have a fresh start the following day.

The School’s mission is to help all its pupils fulfil their potential, by offering the widest possible range of opportunities.
Children receive five hours of specialist teaching, alongside a 30-minute tutorial programme each morning. In lessons, students study a wide-range of subjects; we intend to keep the curriculum as broad as possible, for as long as possible. Following a 3-year KS3, teachers use the teaching principles of RISE in their dayto-day practice.
This means that all children will receive responsive teaching; lessons are taught rather than just delivered, in which teachers are adapting the lessons to the ongoing needs of learners throughout the lesson. Throughout the school you'll see our commitment to inclusive practice in action. Our curriculum isn't just about facts and figures; it's designed to spark curiosity and inspire a lifelong love of learning. Wherever possible, we use high-quality firstwave teaching to ensure that all learners are part of the journey and spend their time in classrooms with teachers, rather than outside the classroom. Where specialist intervention is needed, we have access to support from our SENDCo and external agency support if required.
The school strives hard to create a positive, caring learning culture whilst also giving excellent support and structure to their students

The curriculum is subject to constant review to keep abreast of educational developments and all pupils follow a carefully planned daily tutorial programme, including PSHE (Personal, Social and Health Education).
Key Stage 3
All students follow a broad and balanced curriculum which stretches and challenges but also provides the scaffolding to ensure that students reach their potential As students progress through the Key Stage there is increasing opportunity for them to craft and personalise their curriculum, underpinned by high quality provision in the core subjects: English, and Mathematics. Throughout Year 7, 8 and 9 students also study; Modern Foreign Languages, Computing, History, Geography, Citizenship, RE, a range of Technology subjects, Art, Drama, Music and PE giving them a varied and stimulating daily diet of lessons and experiences.
Key Stage 4
All students follow the core curriculum and can specialise in a range of GCSE and Level 2 alternative subjects We offer a wide range of courses allowing students to follow the route most appropriate to their needs, interests or future career path. Our curriculum is rigorous and challenging; creative and inspiring; diverse and wide ranging; perfect for the vibrant and eclectic range of students we teach.

Students Supporting
Pastoral care is a significant strength of the School and every teacher has a pastoral role.
All students are members of a tutor group, organised by year. The tutor is the first point of contact for parents and oversees the personal and academic welfare of our students through a combination of informal contact and tutor periods
Tutors meet with their groups each day and play a key role in the delivery of our PSHE programme and ensuring their tutees are ready, respectful and safe. Coordinating the work of these tutors are the Heads of Year, who are supported by a non-teaching Year Group Co-Ordinator.
The House system provides the opportunity for positive competition There are six houses at Chertsey High School, each one named after a person who represents the values we esteem. Each year group has one tutor form per house.
A distinctive feature of our pastoral care is the supportive role played by The Lighthouse. The Lighthouse organises interventions such as counselling, emotional literacy support and are a part of the school’s safeguarding team.

classroom beyond the

We recognise that learning doesn't stop at the school gates; at Chertsey High School, we welcome learning beyond borders.
Trips
The purpose of organising trips and visits is to enrich the overall educational experience of our students and foster their holistic development. All trips are are thoughtfully designed to complement classroom learning by providing real-world context and hands-on experiences. Trips that have run in recent years include; local trips, such as visits to local charities or schools to support their work; rewards trips, to celebrate the successes of individuals across the school, and; international trips, such as department trips to Barcelona and the ski trip
Rewards
Students have the opportunity to celebrate each others success on a half-termly basis. Rewards vary from positive points and emails home, certificates in assemblies and reward trips, such as a cultural sightseeing visit to London.

Extra-curricular
Extra-curricular activities are fundamental parts of life at Chertsey High school and all children are actively encouraged to take part in the huge wealth of activities on offer Opportunities include sports clubs, including clubs run in partnership with Brentford FC, performing arts clubs, including multiple performance opportunities throughout the year and peripatetic music lessons, and subject specific clubs led by teaching and support staff. We expect every student to participate in at least one extra-curricular activity.
Partnerships
Chertsey High School is proud to be a part of the Bourne Education Trust (BET), and works closely with local schools in all phases to develop a curriculum appropriate for the local area. In addition, Chertsey High School is proud to work with a number of teacher training providers to provide an outstanding starting point for early career teachers. In some cases, Chertsey High School leads training for teachers across Surrey.
Community
We have adopted an outward-looking approach to actively seek to understand and address the needs, challenges, and opportunities of the wider community and overcome any barriers that may be presented. We believe that the school, parents, and the community should work together to promote the health, well-being and learning of all students.

Inclusion
We are proud to be a school with a broad demographic. We believe that all students should feel welcome in school, and that they belong, regardless of background. We also believe firmly that students have a right to be heard We give students the framework and skills they need.
Uniform
By requiring all our pupils to wear the same low-cost uniform, we reduce the incentive for pupils to ask parents for the latest (and most expensive) items of fashion. As a result, costs are kept as low as possible, and no child can be seen to be poorer or wealthier than any other. However, for our uniform policy to be successful, it must be implemented universally and without exception.
Our school uniform provider is School Uniform Direct.
