Our consequence and rewards system is an integral part of reinforcing these principles. Positive behaviours are rewarded through various means, such as verbal praise, house points, certificates, celebration assemblies, trips and special privileges. Staff willissuepositivesattheendofeachlessonto rewardthelearningbehavioursweexpect.

Students Supporting

Pastoral care is a significant strength of the School and every teacher has a pastoral role.

All students are members of a tutor group, organised by year. The tutor is the first point of contact for parents and oversees the personal and academic welfare of our students through a combination of informal contact and tutorperiods.

Tutors meet with their groups each day and play a key role in the delivery of our PSHE programme and ensuring their tutees are ready, respectful and safe. Coordinating the work of these tutors are the Heads of Year, who are supportedbyanon-teachingYearGroupCo-Ordinator.

The House system provides the opportunity for positive competition. There are six houses at Chertsey High School, each one named after a person who represents the values we esteem. Each year group has one tutor formperhouse.

A distinctive feature of our pastoral care is the supportive role played by The Lighthouse. The Lighthouse organises interventions such as counselling, emotional literacy supportandareapartoftheschool’ssafeguardingteam.

Inclusion

We are proud to be a school with a broad demographic. We believe that all students should feel welcome in school, and that they belong, regardless of background. We also believe firmly that students have a right to be heard. We give students theframeworkandskillstheyneed.

Uniform

By requiring all our pupils to wear the same low-cost uniform, we reduce the incentive for pupils to ask parents for the latest (and most expensive) items of fashion. As a result, costs are kept as low as possible, and no child can be seen to be poorer or wealthier than any other. However, for our uniform policy to be successful, it must be implemented universally and without exception.
